Treachery and deceit

This book seemed to lack the Scottish touch the title requires. While still a young man, Alan lost his father and became the new laird in the same moment. He was handcrafted to a childhood friend who was daughter of the neighboring laird. She was like a sister to him, and Alan could not imagine marrying her, although it was expected to take place very soon after his father's funeral. On the other hand, he was strongly attracted to Heather, daughter of his groundskeeper. When his mother brought news of the theft of half of their cattle, it only added to Alan's burdens as the new laird. Problems continued to raise, and his fiancee's kidnapping was the hardest to understand. An experienced leader would have trouble sorting through it all, but as a new leader, Alan had no one he could turn to except his mother...or did he?
This book had almost nothing in it that flavored it as Scottish. It could have been a great read if the author knew how to accomplish this. As it is, it's simply a sweet love story with not much body to support it.

I received this in a free giveaway and am offering my opinion of its quality.

This is my first book by this author and it was just ok. As my subject line states, I felt nothing for this couple. Who I did feel a connection was the H's best friend Boyd.

This is a novella and so the character's were flat. The H wasn't a strong alpha at all, very weak character. The h was beautiful but that was about it. To think a servant girl advises the Laird!

Clean story with only kisses. Two villains who caused havoc when not necessary.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, no romance, HEA, epilogue one year in the future that was ok. I can't improve on the blurb, so not attempting. (ljb)

Highland Deceit is a fairly a short story, but it contains enough plot to fill a whole novel. The pace is fast to accommodate everything. The story is good, but this is a book that could benefit from more details and more fleshing out.

The narrator does a decent job with the story, but there are moments when she just doesn’t get things right, and sometimes things get rushed in her telling.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. This is my honest and voluntary review.

He had been away for 20 years. Returning from England to see his father, Laird, dying. He loved his dad. His heart had missed his dad and wanted to be trained for his future leadership

A great short story. Heather, a woman with no title, becomes the nanny for the son of the Laird. Lots of snobby people, deceivers and outright liars in this story.
