Along with his wife and daughter, Matt lives as a digital nomad, traveling the world while researching for his novels. He reads approximately a bazillion books a year, loves video games, and relaxes by binge watching Netflix with his wife.
Matt writes retellings of mythology as dark, gritty fantasy. His passions of myths, philosophy, and history inform his series. He strives to combine gut-wrenching action with thought-provoking ideas and culturally resonant stories.
As a child, Matt read The Lord of the Rings with his parents. This sparked a lifelong obsession with fantasy and started him on a path of discovering the roots of fantasy through mythology. In exploration of these ideas, the Eschaton Cycle was born—a universe of dark fantasy where all myths and legends play out.
I started out listening to the Audible verson (90+ hours, covering the entire Ragnarok series). I'm a little disappointed that this edition doesn't sync with the audiobook that I have. At first, the story was a little slow & difficult to understand but the narrator is really good. The story becomes more interesting as it is revealed what Odin must do to save his people.
So far, I've really enjoyed the series. Odin is an extremely complex character. He has his flaws but is ultimately trying to do whatever he can for his people. The other characters are also intriguing. Along with Odin, the story follows the actions of Loki, Tyr, Sigyn, and Gudrun. I only wish that Frigg, Odin's wife was featured more prominently. Anyway, I've already downloaded the Omnibus 2 & can't wait to read & listen more.
HEY ADRENALINE JUNKIES!!! Looky, looky, its here. The box set of the first three installments. OMG! If you're craving something a read that has all the action you can handle, the heart pounding, pulse racing, adrenaline pumping rush that will keep you spellbound. No kidding, all jokes aside this is one awesome set. A word of advice when you get your copy. Grab a snack, a drink, a comfy seat, kick back and relax. You won't be moving for a long while. This stuff is addicting. Thanks Larkin for boxing these up for us.
Intricate and seductive story winding pieces of Norse mythology with Nordic references with continuous conflicts between the ensocereled and the newly immortal. Well woven interpretation of myth and adventure story. Enjoyed my time with the gods, immortals, sorcerers, werewolves, denizens of the dark, zombies and servants of Hel.
Anyone who is a fan of Norse mythology would love this trilogy. There's so much to the story of Asgard than I had known previously that this trilogy brought to life. I look forward to reading the other follow on books that continue this highly creative and entertaining saga!
The first book took me a while to get into, but I am now loving this series. The constant action, good character development, and world building keep the energy going in these books.
A brilliant set of books. If you are interested in Mythology of any sort and Norse in particular this is a must read for you. Starting from the death of Borr, Father of Odin, which forces Odin to take over their tribe, his mission is to unite all the factions that are fighting with each other. To Odin becoming a King which was not on his list of "things to do" They kept me awake long into the night, because I thought just one more chapter (as we do) only to find that I must read the next one to see what happens. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did
I would rate this 4.5. It was 96 hours of audible, and the narration was great. It was a bit difficult at times to differentiate names or locations, due to such similarities in them. Likewise, with the volume of individuals within the storyline, I would forget who was who, or which location/storyline that impacted. However, it was a captivating story and continued to keep my interest, despite the length of time I devoted to it.
Really enjoyed the book. Easy flow with the story despite there being a number of characters, and this is helped if you have even a basic knowledge of relevant mythologies.
Recommend this to those who like fantasy, sword and sorcery etc.
The only thing I found wrong is that I can't wait to find out what's next and how Odin attempts to fix the world. This series had it all. A real page Turner or finger tapper ,depending on which device you use.
The stories of Odin and the rest of the Norse legends like you've never seen them before. Excellent adaptation and interpretation of the stories that I have loved for years.
This was actually pretty incredible. I would definitely recommend all three of the books contained in it. I'm blown away by the retelling of the old legends herein. I truly loved it.
