Spinward Fringe #10.5

Spinward Fringe Broadcast 10.5: Carnie's Tale

Rate this book
Alice is given a complex and secretive assignment: she is to review months worth of voice recordings, video and pictures taken by Noah Lucas, better known as Carnie, a member of the Samurai Squadron. The material was recorded while he was on Iora, a technically advanced world as the holocaust virus struck it. She is to review all materials and create a report that includes insights into the young pilot's personality, strategic information about Iora and any other details that could help Haven Fleet. Before long, Alice becomes personally invested in the plight of her subject, and makes discoveries that could change her forever.

Meanwhile, a permanent government is taking hold in Haven Shore, and the Fleet is undergoing one last shakeup that could break the Apex class apart. All the while Alice is left to wonder where her father and his ship, the Revenge have gone while they wait for the rest of their active fleet to return from the Iron Head Nebula.

The Spinward Fringe saga continues in Carnie's Tale, the connective tissue between Spinward Fringe Broadcast 10: Freeground and Spinward Fringe Broadcast 11: Revenge, telling Alice's story between those books from a more personal perspective. Version 2.

Fast paced and fun read

I really enjoyed Carnie's Tale. It was a quick read mostly because it kept me turning pages long after I should have gone to bed. Seeing the back story for a character I hadn't thought much about adds real depth to the universe Randolph Lalonde is creating. Of course everyone has a story, but great job bringing Carnie's to light! More than a few typos keep me from giving this the highest marks.

Diversion

This was a nice version of the continuing story of the people involved with Triton. I also feel the writing was better in that the continued repetition of the basic information about the people was substantially reduced, showing signs of the writer growing with the story.

This book gave us a bit of a history lesson on one of the Samurai Squadron. Alice is given the task of check and writing a report on the details on the pilot Carnie. It highlights his journey to Haven Shore. I am looking forward to seeing how the story continues...

Amazing

Amazing addition to the series, I am not normally a fan of story branches like these but this one was really good and I loved it!

I forgot how much I love the world these books treasure me to. I just leave my reality and join theirs. This book was excellent. I live the new characters and it felt great reconnecting with the characters I already knew. Loved it.

Good reading. A little more rough of a story than perhaps we're used to, but kind of an interesting origin store for Carnie. Feels like a bit of a wondering dystopian book, but I guess really that's what it was. A decent read.

My opinion, this is one of the best books so far. I love the character development of “Carnie” and Alice. Cannot wait for Broadcast 11!

A great original read entwined with the Spinward Fringe series of books detailing the struggling times of the galaxy. Not giving away any spoilers here, read the book. You won't regret it.
