The Tower

Ten years ago I tried to save her.
She was an innocent girl trapped in the clutches of a monster.
Battered and bruised and without a friend in the world.
Except me.
I couldn't ignore those sparkling green eyes that begged me for help.
I fought my hardest to save her but I failed.
I was no more than a child and her captor was too strong for me.
I almost died that night.
But that was a decade ago.
I never forgot her.
I never forgot the night I let her down.
I've been trying to ignore the pain ever since.
And now the monster is back.
She's still his slave.
Same as before.
But one thing's changed.
I'm not the boy I was back then.
I've become a man.
More than a man.
I'm a cold blooded killer.
And I'm about to travel into the lair of the beast once again.
Only this time, I'm going to save her and nothing is going to stop me.

Don't blink

It was a great story concept. An immaculate storyboard primed and ready for the life to be pumped into it by the author. Someone to add the details and set the scenes so we could see what she envisioned this world to look like then use our own imagination to flesh out the rest of it. But someone took that outline and published it too early. It's such a great idea. But this is not a book worthy of it. That sounds contradictory I know, but it's disappointing to see so much potential in something that could have easily been the next big blockbuster movie, had the time been taken to develop the characters and draw out the anticipation or something... anything. I didn't hate the bad guy or root for the good guy because I don't know a thing about them other then the very very basic things that you could learn about someone from reading their Twitter feed. I don't even know what anyone looked like because you don't get more that a few pages with them before they're dead or gone and never re-mentioned again. I mean this story had it all... but instead of taking us into that word, we are told a quick story that is the equivalent of reading the IMDB plot page to a movie instead of watching the movie. There is no way to review this story because honestly I don't remember much of it. I kept waiting for the good thick of it when BAM book ends at 77% and I'm sitting here like what the hell...that's it? Yeah, that's it. Such a shame. I truly hope that the author goes back later on and fills in the story. If she does I will be first in line to buy the updated version.

Suspenseful Thriller

“The Tower” is a short, fast-paced thriller with both engaging primary as well as secondary characters. Establishing a steadfast friendship during early childhood, both protagonist’s bleak existence forms the foundation of a bond that endures 20 years of separation. Conveyed through dual POV, the hero’s dedication to the heroine is both poignant and unparalleled. “The Tower” is more than simply a story, it’s a journey from the depths of despair to hope and ultimately unrelenting love.

John hadn’t forgotten anything; he knew everything that had taken place, but he would never tell anyone. If he was still alive it was for a reason and he would avenge Rebecca. Rebecca’s father had sold her, but John knew who to and had an address. When he turned up to rescue her it was the first spark of hope in years and she wondered if the nightmare was over; he had tried to save her but they made her watch the terrible things they did to him. John had been so bold, so brave, so stupid. Rebecca is now 15-years old and about to be sold again. For 5-years she had been with Louis; she thought there could be no crueler man, until she met her new owner, Mr. Sharp. John had been living on the streets before he found Rebecca, but then a chance meeting with William changes the course of his life; all he has to do is work harder than he ever has before and William will teach him everything he knows. Each day is making John stronger, faster, fitter but he never forgets Rebecca. Rebecca and John were childhood friends, played games together and even invented their own sign language; it had been the happiest time of his life and she was the only good thing, the only pure thing. Everything else was corrupt and dirty. One day they would run away somewhere together, start a new life, somewhere where no one would find them. It was a dream, but nothing good lasted and then she was taken away; sold by her drug addict father. So John kept training, doing everything William told him to do, until the night he told William the truth about Rebecca. Then William made him take an oath; not to seek revenge until he was told he was ready. First he has to complete his training and master his emotions; never to let his feelings get in the way of the job, including getting Rebecca back. It is 10-years later when John gets a lead on Mr. Sharp. John is a different person now; trained, efficient and a killer and adept at turning his emotions off. What he couldn’t control was his dreams. During this time Rebecca has been moved from one country to another, never staying in one place for more than a year, but the abuse was the same wherever they went. John was the only good thing in her life and she has no idea if she would ever see him again. 10-years of hoping and waiting and just as she is starting to give up, something truly unexpected happened. John finds out Rebecca is alive and he has an address, but if he has any chance of surviving he needs William’s help. But just as Rebecca and John begin to start a new life, John is given a choice; come and play or call it quits. Now John is back in the Tower and Mr. Sharp would find out what it meant to take his love away from him. Would it ever be over? This is definitely a book I would have no hesitation in recommending. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

I read this book as an ARC for an honest review.
John has had a very hard life so far with no one who ever cared about him except his childhood friend Rebecca. Both had druggy/alcoholic parents who were unfit. One day Rebecca's dad starts talking about she is finally good for something. The next day a ten year old John sees Rebecca being taken by a grown man. She looks glassy eyed like she has been drugged. He attempts to save her and only gets beaten by the bad man.
Fast forward five years and John has left home and been looking for Rebecca for 5 years. He finds her in a building called the Towers. He is forced to fight for her but he is no match for Louis and Mr. Sharp her new owner's security. He is beaten, shot and falls through a window into the Thanes river. All of this made worse by hearing a shot that he just knows killed his beloved Rebecca By some miracle he is saved and although he wants to die because he did not save Rebecca he promises himself to avenge her death.
After getting out of the hospital he meets a man named William who sees potential in him. William teaches him fighting skills, life lessons, investigative tactics and alot other useful skills. William does however make him promise to not seek revenge until he says that he is ready. John agrees but has no idea this will take years.
John has been living his life as a hit man. He has learned to turn his emotions off. During a job he finds papers with Mr. Sharp's name on them. He finds out that what he thought took place those years ago in the Tower didnt. So after explaining this to William he seeks out the man they work for. After receiving answers he returns back to his mentor, William and is given permission and to his surprise William makes himself apart of the plan. Will John and William be able to take on Mr. Sharp?
This was a good book. Thriller with a little bit of steam towards the end. I enjoyed it in one sitting. I always enjoy Lucy Wild's writing!

Twisted, dark romance that spans a decade!

Rebecca had two drug addict parents and when she was a little girl she made friends with a little boy named John that lived in the same floor as she did. When Rebecca was ten her father sold her to a horrible man just so he could continue to but his drugs. John tried to get her away from him as he pulled her outside and into a car. John spent five years living in the streets and searching for Rebecca. He finally found her when she was fifteen and being sold to another horrible man. John tried to save her but ended up almost dying in the process and he was sure Rebecca had been killed. A fisherman saved him and then for ten more long years he trained as a killer and waited to get his revenge against Rebecca's killer. This book is dark and twisted but definitely a must read. To find out what happens when John finds the man that had Rebecca grab this book today, cause it's an awesome twisted story.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Wow, this was an amazing dark romance with murder, mystery, suspense, kidnapping, thrills and passion continue to keep you glued to the pages of this fascinating story. Loved the characters of John and Rebecca—you get a chance to see the progression of their love—theirs was not a quick and easy love story because they had to overcome some issues, but loves does prevail. What moves me is just how Lucy Wild was able to make their situations seem credible and somewhat realistic—their hurts, ambivalence, etc. There are several twists and turns within the storyline and intrigue that makes it very interesting and compelling. The scenes are well written, fast-paced and flow smoothly from one scene to the next. This book will take you through an emotional journey of loyalty, trust, betrayal, commitment, and love. The story will also pique your interest and draw you in from the beginning to the very end.

Wow, what a story that will grip your heart and you'll be teared up at times and smiling with joy at other times. Two wounded souls who had a horrible childhood. Both parents were abusive drug addicted alcoholics. Rebecca was sold by her parents to an abusive owner and has no hope of escaping. John, her only friend tries to help her but is shot and beaten and left for dead. He recovers and becomes involved with a man who teaches him to protect himself and he later becomes a hit man. He thinks that Rececca is dead and he is determined to revenge Rebecca's death. He later finds her hidden in the Tower. Lots of twists and surprises that will keep you page turning. A great book with complex characters. An emotional read and a dark romance. I read an advance copy and voluntarily chose to write a review.

How far would you go to save the only friend you've ever had? For John, that's a journey that spans not only miles, but years, and takes him places that no one should ever have to go. We don't get as much about Rebecca in this dark and twisted tale, but it's enough to know that her ordeal is disturbing to say the least. The only drawback for me was a scene between our main characters toward the end of the story. I won't go into details so as not to give too much away, but given the ages of when they last spent time together and everything that both have been through in their time apart, what happens between them seemed a bit rushed and over the top. Other than that, the story is fast-paced and full of action, suspense, and the evils that men do.

I'm still in a daze and not completely sure what I just read. It's a fast-paced romance that’s almost more of a psychological thriller than a love story. The work is amazing I just can't figure out if I liked it or not. Definitely not for the faint of heart. Heed this warning: the book contains very dark scenes and subject matter that may be difficult to read. As with some previous titles, the villain here could easily have been plucked from one of the author's thrillers. That means that some of the worst cruelty known to man is highlighted within these pages. There's quite a lot that happens over the course of this little book and I found that it was almost too quick for me to absorb everything that was going on.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.

The Tower by Lucy Wild

John and Rebecca met when they were only five years old and played together till they were ten. A man Louis bought Rebecca from her parents, for his play thing. Then Louis sold Rebecca to Mr. Sharp when she was fifteen. John found her and tried to save her but all he got was shot and pulled out a window. This story starts with many twist and turn. It is a dark romance so it deals with a lot of dark subjects so it is for adults but it is very interesting how Lucy Wild weaves it all together without being to graphic. I enjoy reading this story and I think it is a very interesting story. I received an ARC and have voluntarily left a review.

WOW what an action packed mystery this book is.

John and Rebecca's story begins when they are 6 years old and takes a turn for the worse when they are 10.

This book is truly fantastic and takes you on a journey that at times you think will not end for the good. A fast paced best friends to an even faster paced adult lovers.

In his journey to rescue Rebecca, John becomes what is necessary to take her from the terror that now has possession of her.

I voluntarily read a complimentary ARC of this book and highly recommend it.

I loved reading this dark romance it was captivating and I was so fascinated by it I was burning through the pages. As children John and Rebecca only had each other to comfort one another seeing how their parents were either drug addicts or alcoholics so they forged a bond so tight they even had their own language and signals. At ten years old Rebecca was sold by her father and was taken away and John had only one mission in his sights and that was to get Rebecca back at any cost. I recommend this book as it will give you a thrill ride you won't want to get off till the end

With a fast paced plot and great characters this is once again another great read from Lucy Wild.

I loved the new one from Lucy Wild. In this dark romance it will take years and a lot of training for John and Rebecca to get their happy ending. When John and Rebecca were 10 years old they were ripped apart and it takes John 5 years to find her again. A teenager going in to rescue the girl will lead to horrible results for John, but will set him on his path to do what it takes to make it right. Rebecca and John are such strong characters and I loved their story. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

This was a short but fast paced story. There were twists and double crosses that kept me engaged and wanting to know what would happen next. Over the course of fifteen years, Rebecca was forced to endure what no human should even have to image, let alone live through. The only thing that kept her alive was the hope that John would find her. Would he ever find her? If so, would he make it in time? I recommend reading this one to find out.

This is definitely a dark story that has some triggers in it. Abducted at 10 Rebecca has been a plaything for several men. When John tries to rescue her at 15 he fails and is almost killed. Now at 25 he is a different person and has the mindset to avenge her. I have read many books by this author, and this is the first one I didn't really connect to. It felt a bit disjointed to me, but overall was good.

Lucy is a master of dark romance, definitely one of my go to's when I feel like something a little darker. The Tower was brilliantly executed, the writing was flawless, the character definition and chemistry was impactful. Everything that occurred within this book packed a punch. I was hooked from the very beginning, the plot for this story was fantastic. A five star read, cannot wait to see what genius Lucy comes up with next.

John and Rebecca were childhood friends until Rebecca was taken and sold by her father and John will do anything to save her .I was impressed be Johns strength being so young and what he has had to endure at such a young age all alone but by god he had strength and determination to save his one friend in the entire world to go up against full grown men who will stop at nothing to keep her.
The story was full of action and darkness and following John on his conquest and how he got to where he is now even though it was with the help of not so nice men I was actually proud of his decision to keep going for justice.I voluntarily read a readers copy of this book

Where is romance in this Novella? Both MC's met around 90%. The story was engaging, but I was more interested in reading romance between both MC's. I know that both MC's separated when they were 10-year-old, and they meet after 15 year. This is dark romance, but, IMO, there is no romance. This whole book is/was about revenge. I don't even liked the ending.
