Besting the Billionaire

Billionaire Alexander Kazankov always wins. But he didn't count on high-heeled, drop-dead sexy Lily Bennett getting in the way of his latest deal. She's a distraction he doesn't need, not when he's so close to making things right for his family. Lily may walk and talk like a Southern piece of fluff, but she's been underestimated before. She's determined to succeed--and no entitled, arrogant asshole, especially the too-gorgeous-for-his-own-good-kind, is going to get in her way. Oil, meet water. Gasoline, meet spark. It's all-out war as these two enemies go toe-to-toe in an ugly, take-no-prisoners battle to prove they're the right choice to be CEO of the same company. All too soon, playing dirty in the boardroom leads to playing even dirtier in the dark. It's destined to end in personal and professional disaster. So why the hell can't they stop? Contains mature themes.

Billionaire Blackmail (Billionaire Bad Boys Book 1) - Kindle edition by Aimes, Alison. Contemporary Romance Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

Besting the Billionaire is book two in the Billionaire Bad Boys series by Alison Aimes. This is an enemies to lovers romance and holy smoke, these two! In the blurb it says oil, meet water, gasoline, meet spark! That’s a perfect analogy. Because there is no better word to describe when they come together than combustible!!!

“His past, his present, his future at war. His loyalties increasingly divided.”

Young businesswoman in conference room on cell phone — Accessibility, job - Stock Photo | #179051270

Alexander (Alexi) Kazankov has been waiting years to take over Winslow Industries. Now is his chance. Ownership of the company is not for himself but to repay a long overdue debt to the woman who raised him, who supported him, who loved him, Lena Orlov. His only obstacle is that the deceased owner left the company to his widow. And Alexi had not anticipated the adversary she would be!

“The more she told him to stay out of her business, the more he wanted in. Not just her tight body, but inside her stubborn will. Inside her complicated mind.”

Release Day Blitz: Besting the Billionaire by Alison Aimes |

Lily Bennett knew she could bring back Winslow Industries to it’s former glory. All she needed was to bring the board around to her side. But they are not as supportive as she hoped. Especially with Alexi Kazankov fighting her for their vote. Not only does Alexi infuriate every cell in her body, he awakens her as well. Just his nearness makes promises to parts of her that have been asleep for a very long time.

“Of all the men who could have rocked her world, why did her body have to come alive for him?”

Alexi had a plan. But with every encounter he has with the beautiful Lily, that plan takes another step back. His priorities start to weaken. The more he gets to know Lily, the more the lines are blurred.

“You’ve got my respect, my admiration, and my attention. The question is, what do you want to do about it?”

As Alexi and Lily battle for the company that they both want, things begin to happen that make it clear there is another player in this battle, someone who very much wants Lily out of the running. The question is, how far will they go to accomplish this?

besting the billionaire alison aimes - Google Search

Wow, just wow! These two are equal in every respect of their battle! Only neither of them had counted on the attraction that can’t be denied. And for that attraction, that chemistry, to become more. I could not turn the pages fast enough. Once again Alison Aimes has written a book that kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through. But at the same time, written a romance between two people clearly made for one another. These are two characters that I won’t soon forget. I hope at some point Alison jumps back into the contemporary romance genre. But I think she can pretty much rock any genre she decides to write!

“Somehow along the way, what she needed was becoming what he needed too.”

Besting the Billionaire
By: Alison Aimes
4 Stars

Alexander Kazankov has been working for years on this latest deal. One that will bring satisfaction for everyone. A deal that Alexander has stopped at nothing to acquire. There is history of why he must gain control of this company. Lena raised Alexander like he was her own child. He must do this to finally bring closure to the loss Lena suffered.

Lily Bennett recently lost her husband. A marriage that was more of a rescue than one of love. With a past that has hopefully been buried deep, she is now in the top position at her late husband’s company. One final step, getting the board to vote to allow her to be in control.

Loved reading about a head strong woman who stands up for herself. Pushing aside the ‘good ole boys’ and making a name for herself.

When Alexander and Lily go head to head, sparks fly. With these two though only one can win. Who will become the head of the company?

Well.... that was one hell of a story. I loved every word, line and the two main characters Alexi (hmph!) and Lily aka Armageddon as Alexi so lovingly referred to as.
Both of these two took my by surprise, Alexi doesn't have a kind bone is his Russian body and is out for revenge, taking what he thinks rightfully belongs to the woman who raised him. The mother of the daughter he loved and is no more.
Lily inherits this failing business form her now deceased husband, a year after his death the will is read and he has given Lily the reigns to the company that isn't doing well, to the very loud and nasty ire of his older son who seeks to undermine her at every turn, the younger one who is shy and quiet but knows his numbers and tries to support Lily. And then there is Alexi, who barges in on the day of the memorial service to try and buy her out. He's damn determined and nothing will stop him.
Lily is on shaking ground with the board, they are a bunch of good old boys who think Lily is nothing but well... a tight skirt and should be serving coffee. Pfft. They're all dirty as hell.
I loved it when Alexi would butt in and save her from some of these unsavory situations and then when things take a turn in the story and someone makes threats, Alexi takes it personally. His two closest business partners think he's off the edge because of her, they want to snatch and grab, but Alexi isn't known for his patience or tolerance for bullsh*t. He's also smoking hot and he knows the attraction between the two of them has calmed his otherwise bulldog demeanor. He's known as the Iceman and his reputation precedes him. She is also aware but the chemistry between the two is off the charts. I really did like them together.
This book is a must read, without a doubt. It's a romantic suspense with two strong lead, some very interesting supporting characters and I loved the plot. The twists you won't see coming and dang I was just sure I knew who was behind some of the things and I was flat out wrong. You really don't want to miss this book! The cover is hot but doesn't hold a candle to the flames in this amazing story!
Great book Alison! I loved it!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of the book.

I so loved this book. If you're a fan of Christina Lauren's Beautiful Bastard and Kresley Cole's The Professional, you too will LOVE Besting the Billionaire. Alexi and Lily were so wonderfully and evenly matched and the tension that builds between them throughout the book is palpable, believable, and utterly delicious. I love that their relationship is a natural progression and that the plot surrounding them is just as entertaining and riveting. Both Lily and Alexi were layered characters and I really enjoyed getting to know them and watching their relationship evolve. I will definitely be looking for more books by Alison Aimes! 5 out of 5 wine glasses.

This is the first book I’ve read from Alison Aimes and I am hooked. Besting the Billionaire was not the book I expected when I requested to read it from NetGalley but once I started reading it I was just glad I did. It exceeded my expectations, it had a little bit of everything romance, comedy, steamy scenes and mystery. It was no wonder I couldn’t seem to put this book down. Both Alexi and Lily had tough childhoods and horrible past but those experiences has made them both hardworking, take no prisoners, survivors and fighters against things that they believe in. I really loved this book and I can’t wait to read more of Alison’s books.

*** I was given this ARC by NetGalley as an exchange for an honest review.

I don't read a lot of billionaire romance because I don't find it convincingly written, having worked in a big corporate setting myself. However, I'll happily read billionaire romance written by this author because she's done it so very right. The characters' motivations felt real - they are each driven to succeed for compelling reasons. Without giving away the ending, I absolutely loved that there was a resolution that didn't require the heroine to sacrifice her goals. The sex scenes are steamy and further the plot. There is so much to like here. Highly recommended!

It makes me proud when an author sees fit to give her alpha male, a taste of his own back. For that reason I loved Besting the Billionaire. Lily is a worthy adversary for Mr. King of the Mountain. When these two cross paths what follows is an intense battle of the minds, hormones and sexes. Backing down is not an option and missing out on this magnetic read would be a mistake.

What a story!
I think the billionaire actually went home with the best ‘win!’ Alexi is a man on a vendetta. The prize: Winslow Industries. Newly named CEO of Winslow Industries in her husband’s will, Lily is faced with a formidable battle to retain that title. She’s quite a woman! Hardly anyone believes she has what it takes to pull the company up from its about-to-fail position. She is strong, diligent, well educated, and determined to succeed. Alexi - a cold-blooded, vicious businessman who will use whatever it takes to achieve his goals. It’s an incredible story to watch unfolding! Maybe the best part is seeing Alexi transform from ‘Iceman’ into a protective, far more appealing man. You’ll love this love story! I did.

This is a very different take on billionaire romances! In this instance, Lily Bennett’s elderly husband died and chose to make her the CEO of his family business - much to the annoyance of one of her two step sons. Her husband had been ill for some time and there are secrets about their relationship that his sons are unaware of.

Lily is determined to rejuvenate the business and make it a success again but she’s not just up against her stepson, Russian billionaire Alexander Kazankov is also determined to take control of the business - but his reasons are to right a wrong he believer Lily’s husband made decades ago. Lily isn’t the pushover or fluffy airhead that everyone assumes. She’s a feisty, determined young lady who is out to prove to herself that she’s so much more but will the members of the board give her the chance to do so?

The attraction between Alexi and Lily is hot, their encounters range from steamy to laugh out loud hilarious but the angst and turmoil keep this story a real page turner and great read. It is only as details of their earlier life unfold that the reasons for their determination are revealed. However, there is another person secretly working to thwart them . . . . This is a story of opposites, a battle of wills - resistance v attraction, love v hostility.

I requested and received a copy of this novel, via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.

Besting the Billionaire is not your usual tale of the billionaire businessman finding love - nor does is have the same type of heroine. Instead this book is a tale of two strong and independent business minded people who want the same company - One who currently has the legal right to it, and the other who will stop at nothing to get it back under his control. They both have thier reasons for it - but one things for certain - things are about to get interesting in the board room.

Lily Bennett has something to prove to the board of the company her late husband left her to helm as CEO. They don't believe she can handle the business and keep it stable - simply because she's a woman. But Lily isn't one to back down and she's been through enough in the past to know how to stand firm and hold her own. Except for when her heart and head are at war and her body is thrumming with sexual tension and she's met with her match in both the bedroom and boardroom.

Alexi also has his reasons for wanting the company - and he's willing to play as dirty as he has to to make sure that it falls into his hands - he'll get what he wants. But then his head and heart decide he wants the formidable business rival he never expected in Lily and that's when the trouble comes in. When business mixes with pleasure - it's never as simple as planned.

I loved getting to the heart of these two characters and not only understanding their motivations, but also feeling their emotions about them. They both have an internal struggle of sorts that pits their heart agains their brain and their end game and things couldn't get more twisty - or maybe they could. Alexi and Lily are firey hot together - both in temper and physicality - which makes their tryst all the more compelling - sucking me in and making me wonder what exactly I'm rooting for in the end.

Will these two find a way to make it work? Will the business tear them apart?

Wow!!!! This book was intense! Full of suspense and mystery I was on the edge of my seat until the very end.

Alexi and Lily are like oil and water and neither are afraid to play a little dirty to get what they want. Both are after the same thing and they vow to do whatever it takes to win no matter what it does to the other. Of course things start to change once the chemistry between them ignites and now they are faced with the dilemma of how to get what they want but still have each other.

Lily is such a strong character and hearing her past and what she had to overcome made me love her even more. Alexi also quickly became on of my favorite characters because right from the start I could see through his rough, tough exterior. I couldn't put this book down because I had to know what was going to happen next. There were so many twists and surprises that even though I tried to make guesses as to what was going to happen next I was still surprised at what really did.

A must read book for sure! - By Alisa

Lily's husband died and left her the CEO of his company. No one has faith in a woman running the multi-billion dollar company. Alexander wants his nemesis' company and nothing will stand in his way, not even the beautiful, smart, sexy Lily. I loved the banter between these two that ended in hot sex! But someone really doesn't want Lily to take over the company and is doing everything to threaten and try to hurt her. Alexander feels protective towards Lily and despite still wanting to take the company away from her, he sets out to find out who is trying to ruin her. This was an awesome read and I hope to see more from Alison Aimes in the future!

This is the first book I have read by Alison Aimes and I was pleasantly surprised by Besting the Billionaire. I won't tell you the storyline because you can read that for yourself. Nor will I add any spoilers.
The H and h are very strong characters, no wimps here! The book is well-written although there were some typographical errors in the editing. I would classify this as adult reading material for its sex scenes and language. There are family expectations and plenty of drama. This author definitely had a beginning, middle and end. No facts left out, not overly descriptive and all things resolved, with 1 exception. I felt that the author should have expanded on Alexi's confrontation with Lena, since their relationship was pivotal to the story. All in all, an excellent read.

This was a really great read. Two strong main characters battling each other not only for their spot in the company but the all consuming and unwanted attraction between them. Strong writing with enjoyable witty banter, a few plot twists here and there, and some steamy sexy times kept me turning page after page. The chemistry between Alexi and Lily was sizzling. I'd definitely recommend this book to everyone.

First I must say that the guy on the cover brings Alexi to life. He is exactly how I pictured him in this story. And what a great character Alexi is. He is so strong, aggressive, total alpha, and uber protective of those who are important to him. Lily is a strong woman, who you can't help but admire after all she has survived. The chemistry between Alexi and Lily was undeniable and full of fire. The pages just burnt up with the scenes between them. This was just such an intense read, so powerful and gripping. You do not want either character to lose. I loved how their story played out, finding out who was behind everything, and the epilogue (I totally loved) was sheer perfection.

Cracktastic Russian billionaire and bimbo wife of head of family business.

Lily Bennett's elderly husband has died and made her the CEO of his family business in his will but the vultures are circling, including her two step-sons, her husband had been ill for a long time and allowed the business to falter. Can Lily exert control over the Board and rescue the business before their business rivals snap them up?

Russian billionaire Alexander 'Alexi' Kazankov will do anything to acquire Lily Bennett's business, fair or foul, in order to right a terrible wrong done to the closest thing he ever had to a mother growing up, Lena. He thinks it will be a cinch to offer his rival's widow a whole load of money to sell him the business, if she won't sell at first he will persuade the rest of the Board to back him in a hostile take-over.

Lily might look like a blonde bimbo but she is anything but, her marriage was one in name only but she had great respect for the man who rescued her from a life of abuse and kept her safe. She fully intends to honour the terms of her husband's will and rebuild the company. No sexy, bossy Russian billionaire is going to stand in her way.

Now this is how to write a category romance that just leaps of the page. Yes, Alexi was the stereotypical Russian billionaire, ruthless and domineering. But his dominance was offset by his humour and Lily's intelligence. I loved the way they tried to one-up one another in persuading the rest of the Board to back their bid for power, all the time barely restraining themselves from ripping each others' clothes off! But as the competition hots up someone is attacking Lily - who is it? And when push comes to shove will Alexi choose Lily or Lena?

I loved this, it was funny, smokin' hot, had a bit of suspense and kept me reading waaay into the small hours of the night.

I will definitely look for other books by Alison Aimes, after all she has a wonderful first name!

This book was annoyingly stupid. We have a hunky alpha Russian-born billionaire, Alexi, who is attracted to Lily, the CEO of a company he has vowed to take over in order to pay back the woman who helped raise him because the company was stolen from her years ago by another billionaire who then married Lily and died a year ago.

Lily is fighting off the efforts of her stepson and some members of her husband’s board who don’t want some trailer-born beauty to be running their company. They have no reason to believe that she’s capable because she’s just seemed to be arm candy to her husband. And why wouldn’t they be skeptical of her running this billion-dollar business even though it turns out that she has some online business degree, but no experience. Sure, they’re sexist pigs in their attitudes and what they say to her, but we’re supposed to believe that hard-headed businessmen would just accept that the company’s arm candy widow should run the company without any questions being asked.

Meanwhile, Alexi wants to buy the company, but he is also gobsmacked by sexual attraction to Lily, attraction he takes care to tell her about in dirty detail all the time. He’s an alpha hunky billionaire so that’s supposed to be okay instead of creepy. And they do start sleeping together setting up the question of whether Alexi will give up his quest to acquire the company as one last gift to the dying woman, Lena, who raised him.

Another irritating and totally ignorant detail that kept bugging me is how the author depicted Alexi and Lena. He is depicted as some sort of Russian prince who lived in a sort of palace until his spendthrift father blew all their money. She is depicted as the heiress to a prosperous family business that she was tricked into signing over to the despicable American magnate.

Hello? Hasn’t this author even heard of the Russian revolution or have a clue of what the history of Russia has been for the past century. There are no millionaire princes living in palaces who have ancient family heritages. There are no big family companies that, as a young woman, Lena would have inherited and been able to sign over to an American. If the author had just placed their origins somewhere else like England, the story would have a bit more verisimilitude. As it is, it just seems that she made him a Russian billionaire because that seems exotic and she’s heard that there are Russian billionaires. She doesn’t realize that those billionaires these days are basically thuggish allies of Putin. And just looking up a few Russian phrases on the internet doesn’t mean that her hero has any believability as a real Russian. Try reading a bit of Russian history next time.

alexander kazankov has been determined to bring down winslow industries for years. now that winslow himself is dead, and his widow has been appointed the interim ceo he sees his chance. but lily isn't the bubble-headed trophy wife he assumes her to be. and for all the damage her former husband inflicted on people, on his own family, he's still her savior.

besting the billionaire becomes a battle of wills between lily and alexi, it's a battle for dominance and a battle against the attraction that sparks up between them every time they are in a room together. soon alexi finds himself at a crossroads. destroying winslow industries means destroying the future lily has clawed her way out of hell for. but not destroying it breaks a promise he made to his dead fiancée and her mother, his surrogate mother.

each of these women he holds in his heart, and betraying one of them is going to tear him apart. but when he makes his choice, it's for love. and love can only reap wonderful things. and what could have been some standard category fare is elevated by the emotional depth and real complexity of the choices these characters need to make to secure their happy ending.

Alexander Kazankov and Lily Bennett want the same thing, to be the CEO of Winslow Industries. They both have strong and convincing reasons for wanting this post, but there can be only one CEO.
While fighting to stay one step ahead of the other and trying to sway the board members in their favor, they have to keep a tight leash on their strong chemistry which makes them want to tear each others clothes off.
Besting the billionaire was better than I expected. It was funny, sizzling hot, has romance and a touch of mystery. Alison Aimes is a new author for me and I would definitely like to read more from her.

4 undeniably strong stars
****

I have been told if a book has Billionaire in the title it has my name written all over it to read (this ones for you Wendy!). What can I say? It’s the truth! And I’m happy to report that Besting the Billionaire by Alison Ames lives up to my Billionaire fantasy. Romance, attraction galore, hot and steamy sex, mystery, and an alpha female that makes the reader stand up and cheer! It pulls you into the story in the first chapter and doesn’t let you go till the Epilogue.

Our hero Alexi Kazanvok is after something to redeem a past of many mistakes. He wants Winslow Industries, a company that was wrongfully taken from a women who raised him, and in his mind also led to the demise of a woman he loved. Or rather the man that owned Winslow Industries, Russell Winslow. But now Russell has died and has left the company in the hands of his trophy wife bimbo, Lily Bennett, or so everyone thinks she is, including our Alexi. But our Lily is no wilting flower. Yes, she has had a very difficult past, and with its tragedies has made our Lily who she is. She is strong, driven, hard-working, feisty, intelligent and someone not to be underestimated, but she has her hands full. She’s fighting to retain her position as CEO against a disgruntled Board, a conniving elder son, and our Billionaire, Alexi Kazanvok, who wants her CEO position. However the more Lily fights these obstacles and refuses to cave in, the more our Alexi is pulled to her. Things that people see as failings in our beautiful Lily, Alexi begins to see them as her strengths. And the stronger Lily becomes, Alexi finds her focus on her business an aphrodisiac, her intelligence an undeniable turn-on, and her overall strength sexy as Hell. In return, Lily is drawn to Alexi’s honesty in an arena of manipulators and liars, his power where strength is needed and his growing need to care for her. The bottom line? As hard as they try, their attraction to each other can’t be ignored. Together they come alive, apart the world is dull and boring.

I wasn’t sure at first when I started to read this book if I was going to like it, but the more I got into the story I simply could not put it down. I loved Lily. She was no pushover and it was satisfying to watch her as she began to draw people to her “light” and to her side of the fight for Winslow Industries. Alexi was cold, and somewhat harsh as the story begins but to watch him as he first underestimates Lily, then begins to admire her and is then drawn to her strength where his attraction for her flourishes, was a source of true enjoyment for the reader!

This was my first book to read by Alison Ames, but to use an old cliche, “it won’t be my last.” I’m going to be watching for her name as other reading opportunities cross my email and jump on the chance to read another one of her books!

Alexander Kazankov knows what he wants, how to get it, and never fails. He is fierce in every aspect of his life. When his rival passes, and his widow is set to take over his company, Alexi wants to fight for it. There are reasons for his go-getter attitude and no one has ever melted the "Iceman". No one until Lily Bennett.

After her husband passes, Lily is out to prove to his family and company that she can handle the takeover; even with a hothead like Kazankov trying to snake it from her.

When the two collide it is like nothing either have ever seen before and neither one of them are prepared for it.

A hot and heavy, quick paced story that keeps you on your toes! The back-stories play a huge part in the motivations for the characters and I loved that we got dual POVs. The passion from the two of them was undeniable. Sometimes, you can mix business with pleasure.

Alexander 'Alexi' Kazankov wants Winslow Industries, but Lily Bennett isn't about to let him have it without a fight. Yet, she never imagined Alexander would get under her skin the way he does. But the more these two push each other to come out on top, the more they risk both personally and professionally. Will things end in disaster, or will they fight for their shot at happy ever after?

Reading any book by Ms. Aimes is always an absolute pleasure, and this book was a highly entertaining, fast-paced enemy to lovers trope encompassing story that had me hooked from start to finish. Really, there was so much to love about this story such as the incredible main characters that go toe-to-toe to see who will come out on top; enthralling dialogue that was a wonderful combination of intense moments, fan-your-face romance and delightful banter that I couldn't get enough of; and which had a spellbinding storyline due to the main characters back stories, the obstacles they face on their journey to happy ever after and because of the touch of suspense that had me sympathizing with everything the heroine goes through since someone is out to make sure she doesn't win the battle between her and Alexander.

As for the main characters, I loved the challenge the heroine provided the hero because he's the type to always get what he wants and she doesn't make it easy for him. Certainly, she's smart, feisty and isn't about to let him win. Not when she has the best ideas to turn the company around and prove that the late Mr. Winslow was right to put his faith in her. Will Lily be able to win everyone over? Furthermore, I also liked how resilient and courageous the heroine is. She's fought hard to get to where she is in her life and I could understand why she continues to fight because of what she went through in her past. No way will she be weak again. While the hero, he's confident and determined to succeed, but he's never had a more formidable opponent than Lily. I also liked how protective he became of the heroine once he realized someone was out to scare her off. Who is behind the attacks -- both personal and physical -- on Lily? However, what I liked most of all about the hero was that he was loyal to those he cared about and that he was determined to do anything to prove to the heroine that she count on him. Will he be able to fulfil his wish to the woman he's always thought of as a second mom?

Overall, Ms. Aimes has penned a wonderful and captivating read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was powerful because of the fact that their enemies and determined to win, which ups the sexual tension until it explodes onto the pages in very passionate sex scenes; and the ending had me loving the lengths the hero would go to in order to show Lily that he'll always be there for her. Certainly, there's no way they should throw away their shot at happy ever after just so she could protect him. I would recommend Besting the Billionaire by Alison Aimes, if you enjoy the enemy to lovers trope or books by authors Kira Archer, Cate Cameron, Victoria Davies and Diane Alberts.
