Constance Owens has a gift for finding unique items in the most unlikely places, which comes in handy since she buys and sells artifacts and antiques for a living. When she purchases a set of four dragon statues, she has no idea just how unique they are, or that finding them will thrust her into a world of secret societies, men who think nothing of kidnapping and murder to get what they want, and dragon shifters.
Nic hasn’t survived for four thousand years by letting his guard down, and he doesn’t trust anyone except his drakon brothers. The loneliness haunting him has been getting worse since all his brothers have found their mates. And when he finds the woman his drakon recognizes instantly as his fated mate, he doubts he’ll ever have what his brothers have, because it seems she’s involved with the secret society of hunters who have been hunting and capturing his kind for hundreds of years.
Once upon a time N.J. had the idea that she would like to quit her job at the bookstore, sell everything she owned, leave her hometown, and write romance novels in a place where no one knew her. And she did. Two years later, she went back to the bookstore and her hometown and settled in for another seven years.
One day she gave notice at her job on a Friday morning. On Sunday afternoon, she received a tentative acceptance for her first erotic romance novel and life would never be the same.
N.J. Walters is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who has always been a voracious reader, and now she spends her days writing novels of her own. Vampires, werewolves, dragons, time-travelers, seductive handymen, and next-door neighbors with smoldering good looks—all vie for her attention. It’s a tough life, but someone’s got to live it.
Drakon’s Past is book four in the Blood of the Drakon series by N.J. Walters. This series, whew! What a ride it’s been. Sexy drakons (human mothers, dragon fathers) check, strong, feisty women to love them, check, plenty of smexy times, check, and intense suspense, check. I’m not sure if this series is complete or not. It feels like it might be. All four brothers have had their own book.
This book centers on Nicodemus Wilde, the one brother that lives out in the open. He lives in Las Vegas and spends his time gambling, and buying and selling antiquities. We haven’t gotten to know much of him in the previous books. Nic, though he lives among people, has felt alone his entire four thousand years of existence. He has felt, lately, that he was getting ready for the deep sleep, a time when a drakon gives up, just goes somewhere and curls up and goes to sleep. Nic got a call from a dealer he did business with letting him know he had something that might be of interest to him, a dragon statue with gemstone eyes. This call would change Nic’s life as he knew it.
Constance Owens and her younger sister Abigail had continued to run their grandfather’s business of finding and selling antiquities after his death. Constance had a gift for just knowing when something special was nearby. Somehow her senses always led her to the most wonderful finds. That is how she ended up finding a set of four dragons, each with gem stone eyes. She showed one of the dragons to a friend and fellow dealer, Mario, knowing he might have a buyer for it. Little did she know that Mario would contact two buyers in hopes of driving the price up, one they could trust, and one they could not.
One of the buyers was a member of the Knights of the Dragon, a group dedicated to controlling or destroying dragons. This man was evil and ruthless. He knew the dragon statues were special, that together they could give him great power. And he would do whatever it took to obtain them.
Thus began Constance and Nic’s journey. Nic doesn’t trust. When he and Constance met, he knew immediately that there was something between them, some unseen bond. But he would not allow his heart to get involved. He couldn’t risk it.
“Constance Owens was special. There was something about her that made all his senses sing.”
“There was something about him that set all her senses humming. It was the same sensation she got when there was something special nearby, something precious that others didn’t see.”
Nic and Constance are thrown into danger, facing up against a man who held great power and resources. Would it be enough to take down a fire breathing dragon though? Both Nic and Constance fight to protect themselves and each other while also trying to protect their own heart. There are many secrets revealed and Nic and Constance are tested over and over again. Their connection becomes stronger but would it be enough? Can Nic every truly trust her?
I have loved this series from the first book. As I said above, I’m not sure if this is the final book or not. I do recommend starting at the beginning of the series so you can meet all four brothers and have a better understanding of their history. But you can also read this as a stand alone. Enough information is given that you wouldn’t feel at all confused. If you are a lover of sexy dragon shifters that will truly take your breath away, then you will love these four brothers. Thanks to N.J. Walters for this fantastic series!
“For the first time in centuries, Nic was at peace.”
We return to the Blood of the Drakon series for the fourth, and what I am assuming is the final book; Drakon’s Past.
Nicodemus Wilde’s book has been a long time, coming and I was hoping that in the telling of his story the author would tie off all the loose ends, and make sure the villains from the previous three books got their just desserts. What we actually end up with is a whole different villain, although he is a member of The Knights of the Dragon and a load more loose ends in relation to the relatively unknown Dragon Guard, it is my hope that the author has a spin-off series in the works that will actually give readers the closure that still hasn’t been really been achieved in the four books of this series.
How had her ordinary life become something out of a thriller novel…
That said, as you can see from my rating I really enjoyed this book. Constance got a bit annoying at points, but Nic just like his brothers before him, was extremely hard not to love. Their story like all the previous books was pretty easy to get along with, and the relationship between them developed at break neck speed, even though both are reluctant to admit their attraction, Nic’s dragon is ready to sit up and beg as soon as he see’s Constance, and her feelings for him are pretty much the same (minus the Dragon). Which with the villains out to get them, as you would expect, leads them into all sorts of adventures and a few scrapes along the way.
"Hate me later… Love me now."
The series in general has been a pretty enjoyable read, as mentioned in my opening paragraph I just don’t think it’s been tied up to be classed as everyone getting the HEA. So I cross my fingers and hope there is more to come, the publisher really does not do their authors any favors by giving next to no information regards to upcoming releases/new series until the very last minute, and it frustrates me no end. However, the author has a writing style that agrees with this reader, so I will certainly be looking for more from her in the future.

If it seems too good to be true then it usual is. The same applies here.
Constance Owens has a talent that has gotten her into a spot of bother. 4 statues and greed have led to her sister being kidnapped and she will do anything to get her back and I. Mean. Anything. Nicodemus Wilde is near the deep sleep of drakon’s where they are never to awaken again. All of his brothers have found their mates and he is alone but is until an antiques dealer contacts him about a statue.
The whole mate thing went faster than it usually does but there inner monologue of oh she doesn’t want, oh he doesn’t want me did me bloody nut in. I mean really, dude you are four thousand years old. You should know better.
So far I have loved the first three books in the series but here my love ran out. I didn’t like the plot for the MC of the book. IMO I found it to be flimsy at best. I mean really Constance how about telling him the plan instead of lying to him and I don’t know betraying him like that? It would have been so much easier but then again there wouldn’t have been a book.
The icing on the cake was when she was told to not open the door and what does she do? Yes peeps she opens that bloody door to see what is going on outside the soundproof room. Woe and behold she gets a gun held to her head. I mean really how stupid can you be?
I skimmed as the sex scenes bored me and my mini rant is now over.
I like how the overall story progressed with the Knights of the Dragon and the Dragon Guard coming more prominent in the book now.
The question now though is if the series stops here, it would be a shame if it did stop because it has a lot of potential. I would like to see if any of the other drakon’s will be found and have books.
Drakon’s Past is book four in the Blood of the Drakon series by N.J. Walters.
Nic, I liked him. He’s thinking about the eternal sleep and has lost interest in the world. If you have kept up with the series then you know that Nic has a very sad past and believes he was abound by the one person who is supposed to love and protect him unconditional. He’s not in a good place when Constance shows up in his life.
Constance has a gift for find unique artifacts that people leave behind. She’s also protective of her sister, her only family left, and will do anything to keep her safe.
The romance between Nic and Constance is ok. They both are attracted to each other at first meeting, but theirs too much at stack to give into that attraction. Even by the end I felt they still had things to work on; before their is true love.
One of the things I really like about this series is that the women who are mates to the Drakon all have some kind of unique ability. It’s captivating to learn about these abilities.
As for the storyline it moves forward, but not by much. We do learn a bit about the Dragon Guard and get the sense their maybe more information still to come. Their’s bad guys, magic, action and mating. What I loved most about this one was the surprise we get about Nic’s past. What he thought was true, wasn’t and this knowledge sets him free and brings someone new into his life; besides Constance.
I’m curious to see where this series goes from here. Will we meet more drakon’s? More bothers fighting back against the Knights of the Dragon? Who’s in the Dragon Guard? Lots of questions and possibilities.
Drakon’s Past was another astonishing and delightful read.

Constance Owen has a unique talent, an innate ability to find hidden treasures – what a boon for someone who buys and sells artefacts and antiques! The Dragon sculptures she discovered hidden in a cellar give off a weird vibe which makes her uneasy. She wants to sell them quickly but decides to offer them one at a time. This leads to two very different factions endeavouring to obtain it and the other three. With her sister in peril, should she follow her head or her heart? Can she trust anyone to help her?
A Drakon, over four thousand years old, is lonely, especially after his brothers found their mates. When he is contacted about a dragon statue he needs to discover more. When he meets the person selling it he knows she is his fated mate – but why is she working with the Dragon Hunters? Can he trust her or is he risking himself and his brothers by being with her? What is her secret? Can he protect her and his own kind?
The story has a brilliant eclectic mix of characters, plenty of suspense and tension, as well as murder, mystery and romance! It flows beautifully, making it a real page turner and enthralling read. I have no hesitation in highly recommending it to anyone who enjoys stories packed with strong alpha males and independent, feisty females involved in a dilemma strewn race against time and enemies to help protect those more vulnerable than themselves. It is a delightful and fast paced addition to the series and a story which I thoroughly enjoyed reading.
Many thanks to Entangled for providing me with a copy of this novel to read via NetGalley. The review, however, is my own honest opinion after reading the novel.
My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I loved this book, so I bought it and the rest of the series to read!
The cover is beautiful and my favorite kind because it has both gorgeous beasts on the cover!
This is the 4th book in the series, and it is for adults only due to the violence and steamy content. You can read the books out of order, but I suspect that if you read them in order that you will enjoy the series much more. I need to go back and read books 1 & 2.
I really love this world that N.J. has created. It is always action packed and full of twists and turns. This is Nic’s story. Wow, he has some emotional baggage that he has been carrying around for a long time that makes it hard to trust anyone but his brothers. Constance’s business is antiques, and she finds something special at an estate sale that turns her life upside down. I love her fierce loyalty. She will do anything for her sister. Both Constance and Nic get into trouble both physically and emotionally. This was a fabulous story that I couldn’t put down. She threw me for a loop with her plot twist in the end, and I love when you don’t see it coming.
N.J.’s writing is easy to be pulled into, and you won’t want to put it down. I need to read more of her books because I have a feeling that I will like them. I do own the Hades Carnival series, so I will have to read that series soon.
I highly recommend this book to any dragon lover (drakon if I want to be precise) who like action packed stories full of treachery, bad guys, and romance. I can’t wait to read more of N.J.’s work!
Drakon's Past is the story of the 4th brother, Nic. I feel like I have been waiting for his story forever. Nic is very different from his brothers. He isn't a recluse like they were, he enjoys being around people, and he is a fire dragon. Nic lives in Las Vegas and discovers a woman who is attempting to sell a dragon statue. However, Jeremiah Dent of the Knights of the Dragon wants the statue as well.
Constance is a simple woman who has a strange talent for finding valuable things among the junk. Raised by her grandfather, she lives a quite life dealing in antiques with her younger sister, Abigail. She can sense that the statues are dangerous or bad in some way. Both Dent and Nic want them, but she can't imagine that anyone actually believes in dragons! With her sister kidnapped by Dent, Constance will do whatever it takes to get her back. But, she is wildly attracted to Nic and he is the one who is helping her, not threatening her.
Nic's brothers are in contact throughout the book and I enjoyed that. Even though they live in different parts of the USA, they are in communication and care about each other. Nic and Constance have a bit of a 'fated mate' thing going on, but its not quite the insta-love that normally happens and I think a lot of readers appreciate that. The plot is filled with drama and the clash between the Knights and the dragons really reaches a pinnacle. Drakon's Past gives you the romance you want and the action you need! I fell in love with all the brothers and recommend this series if you like unique shifters!

Constance didn't mean to stumble across some dangerous artifacts that would bring the Knights of the Dragon to her freakin doorstep but she does and when they kidnap her sister in exchange for the statues, Constance is desperate enough to hand them over, just to get her sister and their once safe lives back to normal. Finding out that dragons are real and that the Knights mean business when it comes to enslaving the drakons left on earth, Constance is torn between protecting her sister and letting the Knights succeed in their evil plans.
When Nic finds out that the Knights have threatened Constance and that they're closer than ever to gaining unprecedented power over the drakons, its a race to stop Constance from making a disastrous mistake. Nic understands the importance and the love of family and he promises to do everything in his power to help Constance and keep the Knights far away from the coveted statues. But how much trust can he garner from Constance when they've only just met and her sister's life hangs in the balance?
What I loved: I have been a fan of the drakons since book one and each brother is special in his own way. Nic had been an intriguing brother, the only one that chooses to surround himself with humans rather than take the safe and secluded route. He definitely ticks differently than his brothers and his back story is a lot sadder too.
I don't want to spoil it but I loved that he was able to find some closure and get answers to his past and how the events in his past rippled onto his future. I'm a sucker for happy endings and although it was bittersweet, I'm happy he finally got the truth when it comes to his beginning.
He was a strong person but he definitely became stronger, not only because of his past coming to light but also because it allowed him to let go and stop putting up barriers when it came to emotional attachments.
This was a lot angstier than the previous books but it hints *fingers crossed* that even though he's the last brother, this might not be the last book in the series. I hope so! I'm dying to know more about the Dragon Guard.
Would I recommend? Yes, although it can be read as a stand alone (each book focuses on a new couple), reading it in order might help you understand the continuing plot a bit better.

“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Drakon’s Past by NJ Walters was such a surprise. I have read a few of Ms Walters’ books and have enjoyed them all, but I loved Drakon’s Past!
The writing was fantastic, as is to be expected from this author. I particularly enjoyed the world building that had the unusual concept where the Drakons were established from Dragons travelling from another dimension, and then, essentially abandoning their offspring when they didn’t turn out how they wanted them to. It was an intriguing idea, and one that I am hoping will be explored a bit more in future books. I loved the play on the mediaeval knights versus the dragons theme, taking it beyond mere physical combat to a metaphysical one.
I think what made this book stand out was the characterisation. Walters’ characters are always well developed, so that isn’t unusual. But I found myself particularly drawn to Nicodemus, he endured his heartbreaking history to find his mate (even if he refused to acknowledge it at first) only to know that she is going to betray him. It was almost a self-fulfilling prophecy, but at the same time, your heart broke for him. Constance was a very genuine character, and even Nic could, eventually, understand her betrayal was 100% reasonable. Of course, she didn’t want to do it, but what else was left for her to do?
Although I loved both Nic and Constance, I did get the occasional urge to bang their heads together. They were both so stubborn! But this frustration just made for a much more enjoyable read. It will be interesting to see where this series goes from here. I must admit I am curious to learn the story of the drakon’s tears that Constance finds at the beginning of the story; and although the Knights have been defeated, they are certainly not yet vanquished!
Drakon’s Past is book four in the Blood of the Drakon series. It can be read as a standalone. I had not read any of the earlier books before reading this one. But I warn you, once you start in this world you will not want to stop and will have to go back to the beginning. I know I did!
If you enjoy dragon shifters and paranormal romance I cannot recommend Drakon’s Past by NJ Walters highly enough. This book was addictive, I devoured it as quickly as possible and just had to go back to the first book to read the stories of the other characters we meet in this book.
While Drakon's Past is a standalone is His the fourth book in the Bloodnof the Dragon's series. I have followed this series from the beginning and was interested in seeing how it would continue and develop.
I enjoyed Constance and Nic and thought Their chemistry was solid. I thought the sexy times were steamy and their connection strong. Overall I enjoyed the action packed story and the danger and excitement and look forward to more from this author in the future. I would like to thank Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review.
***
I’ve been (im)patiently waiting for Nicholas’ story in this excellent Blood of the Drakon series. And wow, did I enjoy Constance and Nic’s romance.
This was a bit different from the others in the series. Nic has been a bit of an enigma in the past books . . . his brothers have worried about him endlessly. And I love their brotherly connection! Nic has always been a bit of a loner—lonely surrounded by people and beauty. He’s not a typical Drakon who hides away, he’s out and about in the world, but always on guard for his own safety. Until he meets Constance.
Constance has the gift of finding valuable items mixed in with junk. She’s a bit of a treasure finder—something that helps her stay ahead in her profession as an antiques buyer and seller. She knows valuable items on sight. And when she discovers the set of dragon statues, she knows there’s more to them than they appear—she can feel it.
And, whoa, there really is much more to those statues than meets the eye. And those statues bring Nic into her life—and those statues but both of their safety at risk. Can Nic and Constance find their way through the magic and mayhem surrounding the statues? Will they both trust the other when push comes to shove and their lives hang in the balance?
The heat between Nic and Constance was panty melting. I loved how they came together—that they found their way to each other. And that eventually they trusted each other. Drakon’s Past brings the series to an end, but the Drakons and their stories will stick with me much longer. ~ Missy, 4 stars
Good ending to the series. I enjoyed the story, but I just remember that the other ones held my attention more. That doesn’t make this a bad read at all, the storyline and plot were very interesting and original. I love the Drakons and the backstory and how it influences how they are now.
Nic was interesting, but I just didn’t get wrapped up in him as the brothers. There just seemed something missing from his character. Constance was a strong woman and put in a bad spot. The side story with Oscar was interesting. As always hot steamy loving.
I enjoy Ms Walters writing and have read lots her stories. She made this series great!
I have a lot of mixed opinions of this story. On one hand, a liked the concept and idea of the story line, but on the other hand, I'm just not so sure it worked for me.
Constance collects unique items and it just so happens that she stumbles upon statues that hold more stories than she's was thinking imaginable. Add in the fact that her sister has been kidnapped and she's pretty desperate to find answers to a lot of her questions. To say she finds herself in a predicament would be an understatement.
Nic is one of the Drakon brothers and every bit cautious when it comes to trusting people outside of his brothers. He's lived for over four thousand years and it looks like he's ready to go in to his drakon sleep without ever finding his mate, unlike his brothers. That is until he runs across Constance. He can feel the mate "pull", but there's something that's still pulling him back.
The romance in the story was interesting for me. I didn't really get the grasp of their relationship aspect other than they were attracted to each other and were "supposed" to be mates. I found Constance to be annoying actually. It seemed like she did everything she was NOT supposed to do. I get it. Strong female and all. But...eh. I found Nic to be so sad and lonely that he was more desperate to find a mate than actually wanting one. If that makes sense. But I digress. Overall, it was the fourth installment to a series that I've been enjoying. And if there's another one, I'll probably pick that up too.
Book provided by Net galley in exchange for an honest review Overall l liked this book. I'm rating it 3 stars. I did have issues with it though. There was something missing between the 2 love interests. I also want to point out that this is the 4th book in this series but it's dealing with the same villain. Honestly, the author just needs to get ride of the current ongoing antagonist of this series. Kill the group off and be done with it because it is becoming very repetitive. I also think that the mate concept in this book needs to evolve into something more. More of emotional and spiritual connection between the couple. Sadly i didn't like the plot for this book either. This book did have some big highlights. I loved the fact that Constance had a gift of finding things. And, I loved the statue/artifact concept of this book. I liked some of characters in the book and i liked how i could finished this book in 1 sitting. One of my most liked things in this book was the dragon tears. Overall this book was an average dragon mate book with a less than stellar plot. P.S. This book can be read as stand alone.
Constance is learning a lot about her man, “mmm. I can make it quick.” They’d just had *** a short while ago. Of course, Nic wasn’t a normal man. Maybe he had a higher *** drive." Nic is a man who does not hesitate, "She ran her hands over his T-shirt. “You’re wearing way too much clothing.” His nostrils flared and he ripped the garment over his head and flung it aside." I really liked this book, I loved Nic.

DRAKON’S PAST was an exciting ride that kept me glued to the pages and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s the fourth book in N.J. Walters paranormal series, Blood of the Drakon. DRAKON'S PAST is Nic, a fire dragon, and Constance, a antique dealer's story. Danger, romance and sexy dragons make this series addicting! N. J. Walter's paranormal world of drakons (half dragons/ half men) and the evil knights that hunt them, set in present day, is unique and exciting and she keeps me anticipating more. I highly recommend this series for paranormal romance fans looking for a great dragon shifter series.

DRAKON'S PAST was by far my least favorite book of the series.
Since this series is all about the romance I will start there. The insta-love between Constance and Nic was a little too unbelievable and there was no real bonding time involved before they jumped into bed. I never really felt the connection that was supposed to be there which made it hard to root for them to become a couple.
The situations they were in was also a little too much. Constance's reactions didn't always seem to match the situations. One minute she is ready to murder Nic because she thinks he has her sister and the next she is all gaga over him. She is told not to do something yet she does it anyways and ends up in trouble. It was extremely annoying.
One thing I did like about DRAKON'S PAST was the information we got about the Dragon's Guard. Now that all 4 brothers have their mates this might be the way the author plans to continue the series.
I have really enjoyed most of the past love stories and books in this series, but DRAKON'S PAST was a bust for me and I don't feel like it added much to the series.

Constance Owens has a gift that comes in hand with her line of work. She just never thought that her line of work would get her involved with a group of very unsavory people . She could not have imagined the world that she would find herself in. She could have only dreamed of having the chance at a romance that would change her life. She finds more adventure after locating a very special statue then she had ever in her life imagined possible. Constance finds that her life begins just when she thought it would end.
Nicodemus (Nic) Wilde had seen much over his lifetime. He had endured much and settled for even less. He finds that life just does not hold that much appeal to him. His brothers are finding their mates. He finds that his connection to a woman that he comes across may be a mistake. She are with people that have made it their life's mission to destroy the Drakon.
Without going back through the previous books and confirming it, I must say that I don't recall very much about Nic. Nic and Constance coming together was more of greed than anything else. One man greedy for one thing or another tells others of a special find and it happens they bother are interested in the find. Things get a bit intense after that. Nic and Constance find that they need to rely on each other as things get dangerous for them both. .
This was the last book of this series and I was so hoping for something over the top. A way to drag me kicking and screaming to get back to my eReader. I love dragons. I love the adventure. I love their mating and find that one. I love the bonds of their connection.
I was just saddened that there was not something more. NJW does a great job with her writing and provides a direction for her series to proceed on. I was wanting more. I'm not sad, not disappointed. I just wanted more. I will have to sit down one weekend and read them all again.
These two have to work through their trust issues in order to be together, and while it seems impossible at times, it makes it all the sweeter when it happens! As the story unfolds, you learn more about their pasts that make them so suspicious and it is heartbreaking. When all the truths finally come to light, it makes it even more so, but because of missed moments. Nic does a great job in the end to win his woman back and find his peace <3
Book 4 in this series. Constance buys and sells antiques in Vegas. She buys dragon statues at an estate sale that will change her life. Nic is a drakon that is close to the big sleep. But Constance may be his if he can trust her . This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone book. It has lots of drama and excitement and perfect for any shifter fan While series is a worthy read. . Net Galley copy.
I loved the first book in this series (Drakon's Promise) and I was delighted to find that Drakon's Past was just as good if not better than it. The two main characters were really well written and their story arc was well thought out and well written. I can't wait for the next book in this series. I am reviewing this book based on an ARC received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.
Nothing better than a big strong dragon with hordes of treasure and able to keep you warm at night. Constance and her sister Abigail run an internet business selling estate items that they have procured. But when four statues in the shape of dragons come into their hands - - TROUBLE follows! Who are the bad buys and who are the good? Walters does a great job of narrating a treasure hunting adventure filled with kidnappings, dragons, and steamy romance. "A copy of this book was supplied by Entangled via NetGalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion. Even though this is the 4th in the Blood of the Drakon series this can be read as a stand-alone.
Another great instalment in the Blood of the Drakon series. I liked Constance & Nic and the storyline was well written and quite enjoyable. I would recommend this book to those who love a good paranormal story.
Drakon’s Past is a stand-alone novel, although it is the fourth in N.J. Walter’s Blood of the Drakon series. I was able to follow the story no problem, not having read any of the previous in the series but did feel there were details missing. In this novel we have two sisters, Constance and Abigail, who find and sell antiques (junk). Our heroine, Constance, has found some dragon statues (which of course aren't actually only statues but also possess a magical ability). Two buyers are interested in the statues. One is our hero, Nic, who wants them to keep dragons safe. But the other buyer is a bad character who kidnaps Constance's sister to ensure he gets the statues. Nic promises to help Constance get her sister back. These two main characters have awesome chemistry. What entailed was fun story. Nic being a dragon is fated to have one destined mate, who he discover is Candace. There's a lot of danger pushing the characters together but the biggest hurdle for Nic is his reluctance to trust a woman. Greatly enjoyed the author's no nonsense writing style. I voluntarily reviewed this book for the publisher.
I really loved the first three books of this series, albeit repetitive, i loved the story line and the characters. However, this one just rubbed me wrong. Constance bothered me continuously. Nic was cute but it just seemed like both characters were two dimensional. I never got the feeling of relating to the characters at all, nor was I really cheering for them. Honestly, i liked the little sister more than both characters, and she was barely there!
When it got to the ending I was just bored. I didn't feel anything. In fact I really just skimmed the end.
sort of spoiler but maybe not
I was really looking forward to this book, but it left me a tad disappointed.
And there we have it...the book I expected when I invested in this e-book series...no plot and insta-love (more insta-lust...I don’t think these characters even like each other at all!)
The first two books had so much promise...what happened!?
Nicodemus. Wow. Let me start by saying I am rating this 5-stars because above all, I really enjoyed this book but it wasn’t my favorite out of the collection thus far. Up until now I had been on a path where every drakon I came across… Darius, Tarrant, and the wonderfully delicious Ezra have each made me like the next one even better. This did not happened with poor Nic. Again, this isn’t because I didn’t enjoy the story and it’s not because I didn’t like him… it’s because I feel this story is a bit different in its execution than the other three. My point mainly being is that these drakons have been through the wringer in there exceptionally long lives and Nic seems to be the only one who can’t get over it, move on, and find happiness. Basically the other three are dark and brooding but have worked through whatever issues they had with their past life and childhood but Nicodemus wants to feel sorry for himself and place the blame of his past issues on his potential future.
Given he is the walking poster child for self-pity in this book, it does not help things when the woman of his dreams comes with baggage of her own. I think the formula in the previous books, where the women had no other relationships of any kind in the world, worked better. The sassy heroine, Constance had to come with a complication… a sister. This mucks everything up and makes it harder for Nic to trust. This aspect was frustrating for me and it was the first time a drakon was in the “home life” of the woman his heart clings to. The past females have been removed from their home with no need to return. Constance owns a house that she runs a business out of with her sis. Major complications for an alpha male drakon who wants to be the center of his fated mate’s world.
However, I stand by my 5-star rating because I probably needed this more “realistic” view of how these drakons would handle a more modern woman and her family. I didn’t get the warm and fuzzies from Nic and Constance as I did the others but I still feel they are a wonderful addition (they are definitely the most stand out of the lot). This reads to me more as a stand alone with slight input of the other siblings. I felt it was a short quick event that really wasn’t adding to the big piece of the puzzle we have come to want to unravel in the past volumes. Plus as someone who has lived most her life in the tropics and then headed north, I don’t like the heat and Vegas holds no appeal to me. The other stories were set in locations I do want to go.
With that said, I do hope fans who have read the other books will give Nic’s story a read as it is still a very crazy ride and adventure. Now that I have read all four brother’s books I am super insanely interested in what is next… time for book #5!
