Landen moved from New York to Missoula to join the smokejumpers. He needs something new, a new start. He can't get 9/11 out of his head. He gets a new start with the smokejumpers, not one he wished for, since on their first jump he does safe a life, but also goes against rules.
He also finds a new start with Shannon. Shannon would love a man in her life, but not a smokejumper. She has a past with them full of pain. She doesn't want that again. But how much pain will she have when she gives up on Landen? Is he worth the risk?
At least the moments they have together are smoking hot and sparks fly.
Next to the story between them there is more playing around the town and that is not a fair play. It could have the result that everything is going up in smoke.
If Landen en Shannon have their happily ever after together, for that you have to read the book. If you like firefighters book about a special unit full of action (in and outside the bedroom) this is your book

There are certain authors that you gravitate to their books because of their unique writing and storytelling style, Ms. Piper Stone is one of those authors. She has a way of pulling you into the storyline, with fascinating characters, interaction, mystery, suspense, angst, action, and romance. Her new series of Smokejumpers will keep you entertained, guessing, and pages turning as the story unfolds. In the prequel, Fire at the River's Edge, we had a glimpse into three lives, Stoker, Landen Weaver, and Garcia.
Landen Weaver was a rookie firefighter during 911 in New York City and witnessed the atrocities of that horrid day, hearing the boom as the planes hit the twin towers, witnessed people jumping to their deaths, and working side by side with others trying to save lives. For two more years, he will work as a firefighter, but his head is no longer in the game, and he knows he is a risk. Leaving the fire department and buying a bar will work for many more years, but now it is time for something different. He will return to firefighting, but he has a new calling in his career, Smokejumper.
The plot will have Landen leaving New York and joining a Smokejumper team in Missoula, Montana known as the Jackals. The story will start with him with one more fire in NYC and then his journey across the country, even finding and rescuing a dog along the way.
Coming into town and going to Ziggy’s for a beer and bite to eat and will have him meeting bar owner, Shannon. The story is part romance, part memories, part mystery-suspense, and a part new beginnings. Getting Shannon to help him with his dog when Landen is called out with the team will be an opening for more encounters in their future.
Once again, there are several fires in the area of questionable origin, and also, once again, Landen will disobey protocol and take a risk, going into a building to rescue someone. His time of working fires, he also can observe issues during that fire and questions building codes, something that will play critical in this story.
The story takes on several intense scenes, including life and death moments of risk and rescue. It is also a new romance and risk for both Landen and Shannon together. She has sworn off firefighters and especially smokejumpers, and he is determined to break through her tough shell. It is an emotional part to learn of the pain and heartache each has suffered.
“Find that missing piece of your soul.”
As with all of Ms. Stone’s books, she has an amazing way of keeping you guessing, sharing damaging bits and pieces of clues, giving you information to question certain people, and keeping the mystery going until the very end. The new relationship with Landen and Shannon is full of passion and chemistry when they are together, and yet she is determined not to get involved, and he is just as determined to fight for them to be together. Each is facing demon’s and nightmares from their past, and hopefully, find what they need to heal and move forward. There are also intimate scenes with mild elements of dominance and submission, along with a couple of spankings, and explicit sex scenes.
Burn: A Rough Romance - Missoula Smokejumpers, Book #2
Written by: Piper Stone Narrator: Skyler Morgan
As I began listening to "Burn," I found myself lost; somewhat confused, because the storyline seemed to be a continual from another book that I should've had some knowledge of.
Then, I noticed that "Burn" was the Second Book of a Series Written by: Piper Stone; which I hadn't noticed at the beginning of the book; which is the 1st for me.
So, that explains why everything seemed so confusing to me and made me feel like I had skipped a few chapters or something and didn't realize it.
Now that I've realized my mistake, I find it hard to stop listening at this point, so I decided to continue with "Burn," and then go back and listen to "Ignite: A Rough Romance" (Missoula Smokejumpers- Book 1;" which will answer all the questions I was having from "Burn," and I will be all caught up before moving ahead to "Wildfires: Missoula Smokejumpers- Book 3."
The author Piper Stone has a GREAT storyline with "Burn." Smokejumpers have an exciting job, that's not only tough to do but also; dangerous, and Rewarding!!! EVERYBODY isn't cut out to do it. But, it's a profession that more people are needed.
Ms. Stone added BDSM into the storyline which I find to be extremely 🔥. Learning more about the dominant and submissive partners. It's intriguing and exciting, but may not be for everyone.
While listening, I did feel there were times that some parts of the storylines had been a little long. Some chapters seemed to be more extended when not needed. The author could have
shorten them, and get more to the point. Outside of that, I really enjoyed this book and the characters.
The narrator; Skyler Morgan, was extremely out of this world with his performance. 👏 He was definitely 5-⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️'s+
His ability to go between a variety of male voices and then the varies of female voices; and for them to be so different in sound throughout the whole 📖, I was quite taken with each character and even more so taken by the narrator, Himself 😍
I look forward to listening to him narrate throughout the rest of this series and will seek out any other audiobooks that he may have narrated, just to hear his voice. I'm just that taken by his talent.
Skyler is a very talented narrator. I'm surprised that I hadn't come across him before.
I very much look forward to listening to the rest of the series. I love the storyline, the sexual content of BDSM, the characters, and the narrator.
Landon Weaver is trying to escape the nightmares of his past so that he can start living again. Living through 9/11 as a NYC fireman has left his soul tormented and scarred. He’s hoping that a move across the country and some fresh air will be the balm that he needs to let the nightmares go.
Shannon Miller feels an immediate attraction for the new guy in town . . . until she learners he’s the new smoke jumper. While she has never told anyone why, all the locals know that she doesn’t date the elite firefighters even though they are regulars at her bar. Landon isn’t willing to let the attraction go, however, without getting Shannon to agree to give it a shot. Shannon, however has her own demons haunting her and won’t easily give in to a relationship attempt for Landon.
Missoula is also harboring some secrets. There seems to be an arsonist at work as well as some suspicious deaths and disappearances that are being swept under the rug. Shannon’s also being tormented by a man that isn’t used to being told no and refuses to leave her alone.
Will Shannon and Landon be able to put their demons to rest and soothe one anothers souls or will they continue to be ruled by the nightmares of their pasts?
While Burn is the second book in the Missoula Smokejumpers series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone. Both Landon and Shannon are individuals tortured by events from their past. Even though they seem to be perfect for each other, both really need to work at ditching their baggage and deciding if they can truly move forward to even give a relationship between the two of them a chance at a future together. Intertwined with their love story is a suspenseful plot that leads readers on a mystery trying to discover just who can and cannot be trusted in the town of Missoula. Readers are kept on the edge of their seats as the danger builds and the smoke jumpers and the rest of the town find themselves in a life or death situation. 4 stars.
Burn is the second in the Missoula Smokejumpers series (formerly named Fire Devils) but my first by this fiery author. It does well as a stand alone, which is how I read it. (But I am quickly reading the first ones now!)
Landen Weaver is a hero. He hates that title but he is. As a responding firefighter to 9/11, he's seen more than his fair share of the horrors man inflicts on each other and for a while, he let the nightmares win. Now, he's starting over in Missoula, Montana as a member of the elite Missoula Smokejumpers, the "Jackals". They give him an opportunity to fulfill his need to help others and feed his craving for danger. He never expected to find and the pieces of his soul that burned to embers long ago.
Shannon Miller is the fiesty owner of the bar in town and she's learned to hold her own and guard her heart. After a painful past, she's sworn off adrenaline junkies, especially smokejumpers; until Landen crash lands on all the carefully constructed walls she's built around herself. She's relentlessly drawn to him, even to the point of finding herself being a tad submissive to him, something she's just...well, in denial about.
But more than forest fires are threatening the town and the Jackals, Landen and Shannon are directly in the danger zone. The heat is on to stop the culprit, and the fire, before it rages out of control!
This book was awesome!!! I loved everything about it! Two terribly broken people finding each other in really special ways, an awesome dog, intrigue and mystery and sexy times that heat up the page! The characters were great and well developed, my heart broke for Landen, Shannon AND Riker. I can't wait to read more from this exciting "new to me" author!
Book 2 in the Missoula Smokejumpers series, I was looking forward to this after reading book 1, and I wasn't disappointed, it was a very good read!
Landen was a firefighter from New York, involved in the 9/11 disaster and needs a new start away from everything in order to move on with his life, and joins the Smokejumpers in Missoula. He has a lot of demons to deal with, but has seen a lot in New York. He meets Shannon in her bar being as fiesty and sassy as every, the connection and attraction between them palpable. But he's not looking for anything from anyone, but can't shake Shannon from his head.
Shannon is instantly attracted to Landen when he shows up in her bar, but being one of the Smokejumpers puts him immediately out of bounds due to tragedies in her past. But their attraction is unstoppable and she finds herself with him for a night. He is very alpha and dominant, and she finds herself handing over her control to him, if only for a night.
A gripping story, with two very broken people trying to heal each other, a fabulous and loyal dog, intrigue and mystery with an arsonist on the prowl, hot passion abounds with some BDSM and spanking scenes - a great read, I can't wait to read more in this series.
Burn is the second book in Piper Stone’s Missoula Smokejumpers series, and as incredible as the first book was, this second book has actually managed to be even more mind-blowing than book one! You definitely don’t want to miss out on this book, or this series, which I can tell is only going to get hotter! Landon Weaver is a firefighter who still has demons from 9/11. He figures it’s time to leave New York and try something new, so he lands himself a spot on the exalted smoke jumping team, the Zulies. But he soon learns, the team is a tough bunch when it comes to trust. Even local bar owner Shannon Miller has a hard time with trust. She lets Landon in for a night, but she doesn’t want a relationship with a smoke jumper. She’s also got a problem with corrupt rich guy Montgomery Jefferies, who doesn’t take no for an answer. Meet the Zulies, and the awesome people of the town of Missoula! You just can’t put this story down, especially if you are a fan of men who like to dominate their women and give them a spanking or two when the time is right. These Zulies will make your hearts race and your panties wet!
This is my top favorite story in the smokejumpers series Landen is a 9/11 hero he can't stop thinking about those events and has the battle scars to prove what he went through all the traumatic events led Landen to move away to Missoula to become an elite smokejumper.
Shannon also has some demons and in her mind she thought that she would never get involved with a smokejumper but boy was she wrong. When he first got into town her bar was one of the first places he visited. Shannon at first I kind of questioned her choice in men after she went on a date with a millionaire whom had questionable business practices being accused of sexual assault and more.
When Landon and Shannon get together sparks fly but there is danger with all of the fires being set whom is the culprit is it someone close to them all of this wrapped up in one nice package I really enjoyed Landon and Shannon's story.
I voluntarily received an arc copy through Booksprout for my honest review.
This book was so good. Landen and Shannon belonged together. At first, I wasn't sure about Shannon. I thought she was going to be one of those people who jump into situations without thinking of the consequences, but I am glad I was wrong.
The romance between Landen and Shannon was sweet, while at the same time being all consuming, sexy, and hot. I could not imagine Shannon being submissive for any man. But Landen was the only man she was willing to submit to in this life.
The book was intense, and full of suspense, almost from the very first chapter. The descriptions of the fires are so detailed that you can imagine being there, imagine the fear and the rush that the smokejumpers are feeling. The storyline also had enough intrigue and mystery to keep you engaged. The Jackals from book one play a significant role in this book as well as a couple of other characters.
I would absolutely recommend this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy.
What a great book! This second book in the series focuses on Landen and Shannon. Landen is trying to overcome his past when he was a firefighter during 9/11. The loss, dreams, scars, and pain seem to never go away, but he is trying to move forward by joining the smokejumpers. Shannon is also trying to start new and escape her past loss. While she has ghosts from smokejumper's past, she wants to live and love again, but doesn't know how. Come join this couple on their captivating adventure to move forward. The plot is interesting and the characters have chemistry. The book keeps your attention from start to finish and is filled with descriptive language to make you feel as though you are there in the story. I would loved to have seen more spanking and power exchange in the story, but overall it is a great read! I highly recommend this great 5 star read! I voluntarily received an arc copy of this book.
This the second book I have read in this series. PIper Stone is a brilliant writer as everything flowed smoothly into the storyline. Smoke jumpers have always peaked my interest since reading a book by a well known writer. I believe in my heart that PIper Stone surpassed that bookmark and I can say she out wrote the well known writer by a hands down. The characters Shannon and Landen are very strong characters and the emotions and problems they have been running from are real just like e everyone’s else’s problems. Both of them will tug on your heart strings and at time you will be on the edge of your seat saying....one more chapter......one more page....and before you realise it you are smiling and it is the end of the book. I am just getting ready to start book three and hope that it is just as good as this one.
First I feel like I missed bits of the story because it seemed like at the end of the second last chapter something bad happened but then we skip to a memorial... I think when a character is gathering evidence it might be good to include the ending a bit more than as a memory after everything.... I don't know but run over by the guy he was trying to kill which he told someone else to kill.... It just seems like the author got tired of writing and tossed the ending out as an quicky finish. All that being said, the story is pretty good until the last two or three chapters where it kinda jumps a bit. You get to know both Shannon and Landon and their back stories which seem to be sorta a secret until they share it. The dogs in this series have pretty big parts too... Its sorta wild how Jace finds Landon with a wild mountain lion chasing him. Its a good story
This is my first time in reading this author with the storyline drawing me in. Who these guys were intrigued me with this one centering around Landon and Shannon. Both are intense characters and when they come together they are explosive able to melt to the bone. It also oozes with suspense with the combo in this one it is different then some which makes for stick with ya reading and sweating. I also did not know much about smokejumpers but know I know alot thanks to the writing mad skills of this author. It seems also you are drawn to catching up a bit in the first one too. This will feed you need for thrills and fill your core with ooze that melts. By the time you get through it all even the danger you will be boneless.
Another great love story!! Landen was there when 9/11 happened and it changed him, leaving him with demons that he tried to outrun in Montana as part of the Missoula Smokejumpers. Are his demons too much? Shannon has made some mistakes with men, which leaves her weary as she owns the local bar. Landen and Shannon both feel the chemistry from the moment they meet, but there is more going on in Missoula including an arsonist. Though they have bigger issues going on Landen and Shannon can’t resist each other. This is a great story with steaminess and a great storyline that is so entertaining that you can’t put the book down. This is a great series and this book definitely adds to it. I voluntarily read this arc and this is my honest review
Landon moves to Missoula, Montana for a fresh start, he has seen and done a lot and now has to try and find himself hence moving to a town out in the county where he can still fight fires but in a different way to back home ie jumping out of a plane. Shannon is a straight shooter who doesn't suffer fools and unfortunately has got herself in a bit of a bind with a very intense admirer. While fighting fires and using his skills he is trying to help with the recent fires as well as trying to see where things can go with Shannon. There were some steamy scenes, adrenalin shots as well as a good twist or two that had me hooked.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Burn by Piper Stone is the second book in the Missoula Smokejumpers Series. Every book can easily be read as a standalone, there are only a few crossover. Meet Lt. Landen Weaver, he transferred from NYC fire department to his new job as smoke jumper in Missouls , Montana. He fits right in with his new crew. Shannon Miller is a bar owner in Missoula. She´s a feisty readhead and knows exactly what she wants. Both meet and they have this crazy chemistry. But life and circumstances throw a wrench their way. Burn has everything I love in a book, drama, danger, a great love story. I like the writing, the characters and the words. I give 4 stars. Thank you, Piper Stone.
This is the second story in the Fire Devil series, and is similar to the first book, Three Rivers Run Deep. Two troubled people, Shannon and Landen, meet but the horror of past experiences make it very hard for them to find love with each other. Their affair takes place along with a mystery involving criminal real estate investors, bribery, murder and arson – and the fire-fighting smoke jumper group that Landen joins has to deal with the fires that are created. The book has a lot going on, and the characters are well drawn and lively. There is some sex and a little spanking, but the real story is the mystery and the role of Shannon and Landen in helping to solve it.
Landen was one of the firefighters during 9/11 and still has problems to cope with what happened there. He decides to become a smokejumper and moves to Missoula. Life isn't so easy there as well, because he lost the trust of his team when he did not follow orders. Then there is Shannon who also keeps him on his toes.
Burn is the second story of the Missoula Smokejumpers Series (formerly named Fire Devils) In this book there is also a lot of action, mystery, suspense and a wonderful love story. I enjoyed reading this book as much as the other ones.
This is a great series that's just getting better and better I'd have given it a 4 1/2 stars if I could. I think I prefer the original title though. (When Mountains Weep) it's a more poignant also a title you remember more than burn. Reasons I enjoyed this book: Happily Ever After, Romantic, Wonderful characters, Page-turner, Great world building, Unpredictable, Original, Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Action-packed, Steamy, Funny, mysterious. This book was given to me for free at my request from the publisher or author and I provided this unbiased voluntary review.
I liked the first book Ignite that much that I went straight on to read this one and what another great read it was.Landen moves to Montana as a smokejumper after being a rookie in NY when the towers came down he lasted another couple of years there before he realised he needed a new start.Shannon owns the bar in town and these two meet there they are immediately attracted to each other everyone in town knows that she does not date smokejumpers they just don't know why.Really good addition to the series
Landon, a new transplant from New York, is the latest recruit for the smokejumpers. He has a rough start, as he has just arrived when the call for the jumpers comes to fight a fire endangering a hotel and its guests. Falling for the woman who was taking care of his dog was not in his plans. But between finding the cause for several fires and trying to fit in with his new team he falls. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Fast paced from beginning to end it is a good story, fairly well written and highly entertaining.
A very well written story about Landen that need to get away from New York and the memories that hunts him. He needs a new beginning and therefor he wants to join the smokejumpers. A story about two people having lots of emotional hurts in the past. Can they get over these and have their HEA? About trust, relationship, letting go, passion, hurt, losing, taking the risk for a HEA. It has action, drama, passion, lust, steamy scenes and twists in it that makes you captivated from first to last chapter. A must read if you are into hot alpha males and firefighters.
I enjoyed reading this book. Shannon owns a bar and has a past that deals with losing 2 people she loved and Landen is a new Missoula smokejumper and has a past that he is still trying to come to terms with. The characters in this story are both complex and solid and the plot line has heart wrenching moments with its twists and turns. This book is the 2nd in the series but it could be read as a stand alone.
This is a very good read. Very involved with lots of different elements. It can be read as a standalone. The characters carry over from the first book. They are very well written, described and developed. There is Domestic discipline and hot sex. I found it a little over the top with a lot of danger and fires in a small city. It's a little Agatha Christy mystery. Well worth the read. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and I highly recommend it.
I love this series!! Such a great story! We find out more about the Zulies crew, which I loved! This one has a suspensful element which is intriguing. Landon is formerly from NY and was around during the 911 attack. His telling of his experience gave me chills. This is rapidly becoming a favorite series for me. I listened to this on audio. Skylar Morgan does a wonderful job with the narration. I can’t wait for the next one!
Amazing narration from Skyler Morgan, who brings out the action, angst and steam.
Struggling to get 9/11 out of his head, and needing to find a new start Landen moves from New York to Missoula to join the smokejumpers. Landen has a new job and a new woman with Shannon. Having been hurt in the past and is not looking for a man to love who is a smokejumper. But as soon as these two meet sparks fly and the heat is off the charts.
I voluntarily reviewed an ALC of this book. Landon needs a fresh start far away from his past. In his mind there’s no better place than doing what he loves - fighting fires - as a smokejumper out in Missoula. Luckily, he finds a fine lady and unfortunately, he finds himself in the middle of an investigation, that’s about to get him killed. A very good story I didn’t quite expect. Narrated fabulously by Skylar Morgan.
Very well written and highly recommended read. . A hot firefighter sexy and alpha male to top it off. I love this series. He has a tormented life in some areas and she comes along and thus begins their adventure. The story lines are exciting, suspenseful, exciting, fun and keeps your attention. I was given a review copy by booksprout and voluntarily review it.
