The rodeo arena is always treacherous. Now it's deadly...It's no accident Deputy Tessa McKade is trapped with an angry bull ready to trample her to death. She quickly realizes that McKade Law is no longer enough to keep her safe--and it's her rescuer, Braden Hayes, who stands in as her bodyguard. As they seek to stop a would-be killer, Braden will have to use all his professional skills to guard Tessa's life.
SUSAN SLEEMAN is the bestselling author of over sixty romantic suspense and mystery novels with more than two million books sold. She writes romantic suspense novels that are clean with inspiring messages of faith. Readers love her series for the well-drawn characters and edge-of-your-seat action. She graduated from the FBI and local police citizen academies, so her research is spot-on and her characters are real.
In addition to writing, Susan also hosts The Suspense Zone. She has lived in nine states but now calls Oregon home. Her husband is a retired church music director, and they have two beautiful daughters, two special sons-in-law, and four amazing grandsons
"People don't always think rationally. They commit murder for the craziest reasons and if they fail, they often try again until they succeed."
Susan Sleeman shines in her second book in the McKade Law series. The McKade family quickly wormed their way into my heart. Nearly every single one are in some type of law enforcement and all are precious! This time Sleeman focuses on Tessa McKade, a crime scene investigator, who has become a target of a murderer. Tessa is about to end her career as a barrel racer and Braden Hayes, former professional bull rider has come to town. He is now a homicide detective in Austin and takes it upon himself to protect Tessa. Braden is determined to keep Tessa safe, but is his heart safe from Tessa? And Tessa is leaning in the same direction, but both of them have made up their minds they no longer want a relationship. With anyone. But have they consulted God about that?
Susan Sleeman is a particular favorite of mine. She does Christian suspense well indeed! She always has a wonderful spiritual theme in her books as well that the reader can carry away with them after closing the last page of the book. Highly recommended.
*My thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book. The opinions stated here are entirely my own.
RODEO STANDOFF is Ms. Sleeman's newest romantic suspense. And who expects it to start with her trying to stand-down an angry bull that appears out of nowhere? Or a hot cowboy who shows up in the nick of time to save her life? But it soon becomes apparent that someone is serious in there attempts to kill Tessa McKade--but why? And who?
I had fun trying to figure out who-dun-it in this book. So many red-herrings. So many possible reasons why. So many with motive and mean. Tessa has enemies both in the rodeo world and in the law enforcement world. Needless to say, I did not guess who did it until it was revealed (some of these authors are getting sneaky!)
Ms. Sleeman did a good job of catching the aura and persona of rodeo champions and I could almost smell the dust and hear the screams of the crowd as the cowboy fought to stay on top of a bucking bull for six seconds (or longer) .... fighting for the championship.
"Tessa kept her eyes trained on the deadly threat." And with that hair-raising opening sentence we're off the races...er rodeo. And what a cool backdrop for a romantic suspense. I've never been to a rodeo but I sure feel like I have now. And it provides some intriguing opportunities for someone with murderous intent. Which is exciting to read about but not to live through, as Tessa can attest to. She may have grit and spunk and McKade blood running through her veins but having a target on her back has her spooked.
Braden just happens to be in the right place at the right time to come to the rescue and then he feels duty bound to see Tessa clear of this threat. Never mind that she comes from a whole family of law enforcement. There's something about Tessa and her crazy big family that draws him in. But Braden's an intentional loner, determined to not play out his parent's dysfunction in a family of his own. He doesn't do commitment but there are moments when Tessa makes him forget why.
Love the way the romance builds in this story. It never seems rushed though it does develop at a whirlwind pace. Sleeman has found a way to balance edgy suspense with enough down time to allow a relationship to build. And she gives us ample scenes with the whole McKade clan which is a real treat. This family is larger than life and every one of them, from Grandpa through to all the siblings are opinionated, bull-headed and protective. What a crew! Lots of opportunity for laughter when they gather together in a scene.
But there's plenty of edge-of-your-seat action and suspense in this story as well. And the mystery is truly puzzling. It all makes for a compelling read -- the kind you can't put down until you reach the end with a hearty sigh of reader satisfaction!
One thing you can always expect from a Susan Sleeman book is an opening scene filled with danger and suspense! This book was no exception! Tessa McKade is a law enforcement officer like everyone else in her family but on this night, she is a champion barrel racer who is going to retire from the sport after this last rodeo. She is standing in the stadium envisioning her last ride, all alone, when she realizes that there is a huge bull in the ring with her! How did he get there? What is she going to do? She doesn't have time to jump over the wall! Fortunately, Braden Hayes, a champion bull rider, just happens to be on the other side of the wall and he jumps in to rescue her! Braden has retired from his bull riding days and is now in law enforcement too but has come back to this rodeo to say goodbye to his fans. He decides to become Tessa's bodyguard and help her family keep her safe as the attempts on her life continue. Who is trying to kill her and why? Tessa and Braden are very interesting people and I enjoyed getting to know them. Braden's life was SO different than Tessa's that as she discovers more and more about him, she is very drawn to him. I think you will be to. I wanted to take Braden home myself! Definitely, you need to read this story and find out what happens to Tessa and Braden! You'll find it a great read!
Nothing like starting a story by being plunked in the middle of an arena with an angry bull about ready to charge! Yikes, talk about an adrenaline rush! That’s just the beginning of this action packed suspense that will keep you on your toes. Tessa McKade is part of a big, boisterous, loving, law enforcement family. When her life is threatened, they gather around to fiercely protect her. With the help of Braden Hayes, ex-professional bull rider and Austin homicide detective, they work to find her would be killer.
I’ve come to expect the best suspenseful writing from Susan Sleeman and she didn’t disappoint! Other than the danger in the story, I loved that this took place at a rodeo. I’ve always wanted to watch bull riders and barrel racing and I got a glimpse of that here. I can just imagine being in the audience gripping my seat in the nail-biting eight seconds it takes on a bucking bull or cheering the horse on for the best time around the barrels! Then she ramps it up from the start with Tessa facing an angry bull along with other dangers that come up as the story progresses. Susan had me guessing the whole way! There’s plenty of action to be had and the natural course of falling in love in spite of Braden & Tessa’s resistance to it. They also learn how to put their trust & faith in God more as the threat to Tessa’s life escalates. If you want a great story packed full of action, suspense, faith and love, look no further than Rodeo Standoff!
*I received a complimentary copy from the author and was under no obligation to leave a favorable review. All opinions are my own*
RODEO STANDOFF by Susan Sleeman is the second book in the McKade Law series. It’s the story of Deputy Tessa McKade and Braden Hayes.
Tessa is shy and somewhat of a loner by choice. She’s happiest while spending time with her horse Cooper - whether barrel racing or just riding. She’s a hard worker both on the police force and the arena. In her job as Crime Scene Investigator, holding a master in Forensic Science, she works to prove to her father, the Police Chief, and her whole family of law enforcement officers that the baby of the family can do a great job and take care of herself while doing it. She’s still bruised emotionally from her breakup with Jason from over a year ago after she caught him wanting to have his cake and eating it too. She’s not ready, if ever, to risk her heart to another man.
Braden is a Homicide detective with the Austin Police Department and multiple PBR champion. Deprived of a normal family upbringing and forced to grow up way too fast, it was his introduction to the rodeo circuit that put his life on the right path. It was his desire to break ties with his dysfunctional family and their mooching off his rodeo earning and fame that led him to change professions and get into law enforcement – which he also loves. After seeing the many flawed relationships of his parent, he’s sworn off even remotely getting serious with a woman much less a long term relationship like marriage.
Harley Grainger president of the Lost Creek Rodeo Association brought Braden to town to help promote the rodeo that he is determined to see succeed. It’s on Braden’s first day at the arena that he finds Tessa in a dire situation looking face to face with one angry rodeo bull in the early morning hours. After saving her from sure injury and possible death, he is determined both professionally and personally to see that she stays safe while figuring out who put her in that danger. Reluctant at first, Tessa realizes that her life is in danger and accepts him as her bodyguard.
Who hates Tess so much to want her dead? Will they try again after the bull incident failed? Can Braden keep his promise and keep her safe? What will they learn about each other? Will their outlook on life and love change? Can Tessa complete her last barrel racing competition before retiring? Can Braden find in the McKade’s the family life he’s always longed for? What does the future hold for Tessa and Braden?
Susan Sleeman writes a story about a member of the McKade family and in doing so endears us to the whole clan. RODEO STANDOFF is a seamless story of excitement, danger and romance that will have you on the edge of your seat turning pages while trying to figure out who is after Tessa and why. The author will have you feeling the emotions and reservations of both Tessa and Braden while you pull for them to see the possibility of real love as the story unfolds.
Highly recommend this book to anyone that loves a good Christian suspense/love story. RODEO STANDOFF can be read as a standalone book. After reading this book, you will be looking for others in this series as well as other books by this author. This book is that good! This author is that great!
As we have come to expect with Susan Sleeman's books, this one opened off right away with excitement! Seriously, who wants to be in an arena with a bull that is intent on killing you? Tessa sure didn't count on that! Thankfully Braden knows about bulls and is able to distract the bull so Tessa can escape. Now the question is how did the bull get in the arena and who wants Tessa dead?
Tessa McKade has followed in the footsteps of the McKade family and is in law-enforcement. She's also one of the contestants in the town's rodeo. Tessa holds the championship title for barrel racing. Braden used to be a professional bull rider. Now he is in law-enforcement as well. He is in town to help promote the rodeo and he arrives just in time to become Tessa's own personal body guard.
Neither Tessa or Braden have an interest in a serious relationship. Tessa has sworn off men after a bad break-up and Braden watched his parents bicker all of his life and has no desire to be in a relationship like that. What Braden doesn't count on is the longing he has when he meets the McKade family. The love and respect they show for each other is something he has always dreamed of but never thought existed. And red-headed Tessa's feistiness sure is cute! Can the two of them put aside their aversion to relationships and admit they are attracted to each other?
Rodeo Standoff was exciting from beginning to end! I'm definitely a fan of the McKade family and look forward to the next siblings story! I loved the characters in Rodeo Standoff. Even though Tessa was a law-officer she was still mature enough to know when she needed protection and when to exert her independence. I thought the development of Braden and Tessa's relationship worked well and even though it had to be quick it seemed to run its natural course. There were elements of faith and mentions of faith, but it wasn't central to the story, just a part of who Tessa and Braden were. I definitely love the Love Inspired Suspense line of books. Just enough suspense and romance to keep the reader turning the pages.
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Rodeo Standoff. This is the second book in the McKade Law Series. This is an awesome series and I know you are going to love it. This book is well written, action packed, and full of adventure. Faith is woven into the story like a fine tapestry. This is a book that is very difficult to put down.
Deputy Tessa McKade is a barrel rider in the rodeo. This rodeo will be her last. Her horse is unable to keep competing and as a deputy she doesn't have the time or desire to train another horse. She goes to the arena early to think about her past competitions. Suddenly she is in the arena with eighteen hundred pound angry bull. She has no way out. Along comes a cowboy and rescues her. Who could be angry enough to try to kill her in such a terrible way?
Detective Braden Hayes sees Tessa in trouble. Braden was once a champion bull rider. He knows better than anyone how dangerous an angry bull can be. He manages to rescue Tessa but it is soon obvious that her life is in danger. Someone out there wants her dead.
Sheriff Walt McKade want to protect his daughter but He and his sons are law enforcement they don't know their way around the rodeo. So he enlists Braden to guard her until they can find out who is out to kill her.
A journey of a man with a dysfunctional childhood and a woman with a wonderful Godly family. How can they find a life together. God has a plan for these two. A plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. You may not have some one literally trying to kill and destroy you but you do have an enemy that is trying to steal, kill, and destroy you and your loved ones. God wants you to come to Him, trust Him, and give your heart to Him. God makes away when there seems to be no way. God loves you so much
Who knew a rodeo would make an excellent murder scene? Evidentally, Susan Sleeman did. And boy, oh, boy does she bring the danger and suspense along for the ride.
When Brayden Hayes rescues Tessa McKade from a bull that’s about to charge, he assigns himself as her bodyguard. Because it’s evident that someone has it in for the intriguing woman. Strong, fiery, and intelligent, Brayden can’t help but admire her.
Tessa knows she’s competent and she’s had her fill of overprotective males. Her father and brothers—even her granddad—have filled that role well. She doesn’t need another man hovering over her. Yet as she spends more time with the former PBR champion, she discovers there’s more to the man than she originally believed. Plus, there’s this sizzling attraction that’s hard to ignore.
Between the action and the investigation, readers are invited back to Trails End Ranch to spend time with the McKade clan. This family is close, welcoming, humorous at times, and always watch out for their own.
As Sleeman explores the dynamics of family—both the good and the dysfunctional—we get to go along for the galloping, bucking, hang-on-to-the-pummel ride that is a combination of romance, action, suspense, and faith. Can’t wait to see who is in the matchmaking sights of Nana next!

Rodeo Standoff was a fun romantic suspense read! While I haven't read the first book in the McKade Law, after reading this one, I now want to read it as I love the McKade family. I enjoyed the rodeo aspect and I loved the hero in the story. He was courageous and you could see how much he cared about the heroine.
I found the romance to be good. I liked the ending and how everything wrapped up. It wasn't too rushed and was just very well done. I also enjoyed the suspense, especially towards the end.
All in all, I really liked Rodeo Standoff and recommend it. I look forward to reading the next book in this series, as I own it and have it on my TBR.

Rodeo Standoff (McKade Law Series #2) is compelling! From the opening sentences, you will feel as though you’ve literally been thrown into the Rodeo World. Sleeman has the ability to write so vividly that her characters become your family and friends, their enemies become your enemies and you want to join forces with them to solve the crime! This is the story of Deputy Tessa McKade. Not only is she a Deputy, she’s also the County’s Lead Crime Scene Investigator and Champion Barrel Racer. She is preparing to race for the final time but someone decides they want to make sure she never gets the chance! You’d think being surrounded by the McKade family of Law Enforcement Officers would be enough to keep her safe. They find themselves indebted to Braden Hayes, an Austin Detective, and former World Champion Bull Rider who comes to Tessa’s aid when someone locks her in the arena with a wild bull! Tessa is very independent and doesn’t think she needs anyone to protect her because she’s always had to prove herself in a man’s world. What will she do with Braden hanging around all the time? Could he be interested in her as a woman or is this just an assignment?
This book is truly one of my new favorites! Why? It is centered around a strong, Christian family. Also, because it involves three of my favorite elements -Cowboys, Horses, and a Black Labrador Retriever! I know a lot about all three! I was provided an ARC of this book by the author. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence. I have also preordered a copy for my own personal library.
Rodeo Standoff is a romantic suspenseful mystery. It is not mushy, it's powerful, lively and immensely Spiritual. You have Tessa who is being stalked by a murderer. Well not stalked but they have a target on her head but nothing will happen to her if Detective Austin has anything to say about it. Meanwhile they spend time together, will they guard their hearts too much or will they let GOD do HIS will for their lives?
This is a very enjoyable suspense story for anyone from teen to adult. The central character Tessa is a deputy and crime scene investigator, who is also a barrel rider during rodeos. Her good horse Copper is soon to be retired from competition and it looks like someone is trying to eliminate them sooner. Tess has an angry bull loosed in her direction and is saved by a guy called Braden who distracts it. As Braden, a former bull-rider, is also in law enforcement he agrees to shadow Tessa until they find the culprit.
This book set around the Fourth of July rodeos is full of convincing detail and a great cast of believable characters. We see just enough sports and an understated romance in this crime story. Enjoy.
I downloaded an e-ARC from Net Galley and Fresh Fiction. This is an unbiased review.
"Rodeo Standoff" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. The suspense came from physical danger to the heroine, as someone kept trying to kill her while she was performing at the rodeo. This was her last barrel racing contest, and the danger was distracting plus she had to do her crime scene investigator job as well. I appreciated that the heroine was willing to listen to sensible advice and that both the hero and heroine were willing to admit when they were wrong.
The hero's parents had serial dysfunctional marriages, so he's determined never to marry even though women are attracted to his fame as a bull riding champion. The heroine came from a loving family, but due to a cheating ex-boyfriend, she's not willing to trust her heart to a popular man. This mutual resistance to marriage stood between them despite their attraction to each other.
The Christian element was consulting God's leading in marriage. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable suspense novel.
I received an ebook review copy from the publisher through Netgalley.
What an exciting story with characters that jump off the pages. If you are not familiar with rodeos you will be after reading this action packed book. I am a Texan through and through and the author was perfect on her description of how a rodeo works. I don't think I would be as together as Tessa was after almost saying hi up close with a bull. She was quick to get out of the way, but it definitely was no mistake that the bull was loose in the arena.
I liked Tessa because she is a very smart deputy and doesn't back down to anyone. Her family is not happy that someone is trying to kill her and decide she needs a bodyguard. I can hear Tessa saying, " Y'all have got to be kiddin me. I'm a deputy. I can take care of myself." She talks a big talk, but her daddy knows best.
Braden is exactly what you expect from a cowboy. He is a tall drink of water like us Texans say. It doesn't hurt that he is a famous bull rider. The ladies swoon all over him and I laughed as Tessa rolled her eyes at all the attention he got. Braden is also a detective from Austin, Texas which makes him perfect as a bodyguard. Okay, well the family thinks it is a good idea. He did save her life so he must be good at his job. Someone means business when Tessa continues to face danger. Who did she make madder than a wet hen?
I loved the connection between Tessa and Braden as they slowly started to depend on each other. Tessa's family is one you want to eat Sunday dinner with after church. Their values are what makes their family so special. They love horses and it makes the story so real when you read how well they treat their animals. I loved the bond Tessa had with her horse and how much she trusted it when she did barrel racing. There is a part in the story about Braden when he was growing up that brought me to tears. I won't spoil it, but the author did an excellent job of showing his vulnerable side.
I just have to mention one thing Braden said to Tessa in a tense moment. When he whispered, "It'll be okay, darlin, " When a cowboy says that you know you will be safe. It's a perfect story complete with rodeo clowns, intrigue and intense danger that brings the story to an action packed ending.
I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.
I was looking for a light read, a quick romance with a horse-lover twist. While the action in this book was well done and I DID overall like the characters and plot, the relationships part of this book was increadably fustrating. I'm quite surprised this is written by a female writer (perhaps it is just a pen name??) that is living and breathing in the same era I exist in.
The main character, Teresa, a police officer with many years of rodeo experience is often referred to in the context of just a female that needs help. In everything she does. And thinks. Seriously? I know a lot of horse women, and each and every one of them are strong individuals in their own way, and would always look after their horse first. A police officer, certainly around here, would be more of an A type personality. Teresa did exhibit some A type characteristics, but was undermined at every interaction. Her family does not seem to give her much credit, or even let her speak for herself. So perhaps she would find that situation confining or difficult? Nope, barely a peep as to how fustrating that would be.
In the midst of chaos, a killer on the loose targeting our main character, along somes saviour and hero Braden. Who, I must state for the record, was not that bad, seemingly intelligent and good looking with her best interests at heart. However, and this is a big however, how in the world does he come in and take things over so easily when her ENTIRE family is in law enforcement?
I also find it very hard to believe that a 3x PBR champion would have so little knowledge of how a farm worked, even if he grew up in the city.
Grrr, and don't get me started on that ending! Falling in love after a few DAYS and proposing marrage? ACCEPTING a proposal?!! Arggg!! I don't think there was one full conversation between them that wasn't related to the attempted murders or the rodeo? Chemistry, yes - although that could have been relayed a bit more realistically. A relationship, that sounds plausable. Marrage? Wow, I was not convinced even a little that marrage would be a good idea.
I got into this book from the start. Turning around to find yourself facing a ticked off huge bull would be heart-stopping. Tessa is not used to being in the arena with bulls, just her barrel horse. I loved how she and Braden meet. I also like that they've been around each other before but never ran in the same circles. Each of them thought they knew what made the other tick but maybe they are both wrong. Tessa's family dynamic made the book even better. I love her grandparents! They remind me of mine and that made it even better. I can only imagine what it would be like growing up in a family of law enforcement officers and being female. This is the second book about this family but as it focused on Tessa and Braden, I didn't feel like I was missing anything. (I do plan on going back and reading the first book though) Both of the main characters being law enforcement was great and I loved that each wasn't trying to 'one up' the other but rather both had their own specialties. It was a 4/5 for me. I love the rodeo!
Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
In this second book of the McKade Law series, the McKade we encounter is Deputy Tessa McKade who not only is a deputy and a forensic specialist, but is also a barrel racer champion. Early in the morning in the arena where she will be competing her last race, she is threatened by a bull that had no reason in being there. Tessa is rescued by Austin’s Detective Braden Hayes, who is also a retired World Champion Bull Rider. The attraction is immediate but she considers him a flirt and has no desire to go into a relationship, especially after her last one ended up being a disaster. Baden doesn’t believe in marriage after his experience with his parents. When the threats to Tessa escalate , he becomes her bodyguard. The story was filled not only lots of action, whodunit, and suspense but also with family dynamics. In this case, the McKade’s. An example that a loving family, even with their differences, can be one filled with respect and love . An upbringing vastly different than Baden’s. Proving that what we experience in our childhood will mold us as adults. Another entertaining story by Ms. Sleeman. Looking forward to another McKade story in the future. I was gifted this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This is book two in the McKade Law series, however it is a stand alone book. You will miss some of the history in the McKade family but you will not have any problem keeping up with what is going on. Sleeman is an amazing suspense, FBI/Police type writer and she does not disappoint in this one, of course there is always some romance too.
I love the entire McKade family, this book focus is on Tessa McKade, She is a determined woman trying to prove herself to her family. When Tessa is in need of protection she is not expecting it to come from the handsome cowboy, Braden Hayes, after all she can take care of herself, and her heart is not ready for any kind of relationship.
I love, love, love Braden Hayes, I mean what is not to love. He is the handsome PBR cowboy/Homicide detective (SIGH), need I say more. When he is put in a situation where he must protect Tessa even though she is surrounded by a loving police family, can he actually keep her safe?
This book is full of excitement, suspense, mystery, love, and of course romance. I look forward to book three.
This is an absolutely incredible romantic suspense novel!
I LOVE the two main characters! I felt captivated by Tessa. She is such a strong woman, but she has some definite vulnerabilities. I actually found myself telling her what she needed to do at one point. Not just in my head but out loud. If she had only listened to me she would have avoided some difficulties too.
The McKade family is one that I would thoroughly enjoy having as neighbors and friends. The way the support and care for each other is great.
The plot of this story is fantastic. There are plenty of plot twists and suspects to keep the reader engaged and guessing.
I was fascinated by all of the details given about rodeos. I have never been to one and I really have no interest in going. I do appreciate having an understanding of how a bull rider hangs on. The prep work they do and so on. I also liked getting a look into the mental preparations that barrel racers have to do.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I have chosen to write this review to express my personal opinion.
Susan Sleeman has done it again. The newest book in the McKade's Law series is a great followup on the first one. You can read this as a stand alone but it helps to know what went before. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I usually figure out who done it before the middle of the book but, not this time. I love the interaction between Braden and Tessa, it was snappy and often humorous The McKade family is warm and welcoming. These are the kind of people everyone wants to be around. I went down all the rabbit trails Susan left to follow. Enjoyed the ending. I devoured this book because I couldn't put it down. Can't wait for the next in the series.
I received this book from the author for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR. Part 255 Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.
Exciting, fast-paced book! It had me hooked from the first page! This book continues the McKade Law series but it a great stand alone book too. I love how Susan Sleeman writes books in series but that they can almost always be read out of order because they do stand alone so well. I always want to read any other books in the series that I missed and this is no exception.
Rodeo Standoff is a great combination of police work and rodeo. I also loved that Tessa McKade was a crime scene investigator and not just a deputy and that Braden Hayes was a bull riding champion before becoming a police officer and detective. Susan Sleeman always has well developed characters and writes great mysteries.
I received a copy of this book for free from the author. I got another from a fellow reader who loved it and wanted to share it with me. My opinion is my own.
I really enjoyed this story about Deputy Sheriff Tessa Mckade who is almost killed by an angry bull . But she is saved by Braden Hayes Ex professional Bull rider turned Austin Texas Cop . Tessa realizes that this attack is no accident as well as the other attempts on her life , which are almost being stampeded by frightened horses , then almost being strangled by the would be killer. In the meantime Tessa and Braden fall in love as they get to know each other while he is protecting her. The danger really escalates when Tessa is kidnapped by this would be killer. It's up to Braden to rescue the woman he has fallen for . You will be on the edge of your seat as Braden has to get there in time save Tessa , but will he get there before it's too late ? This book you have to read ! Excellent !
Rodeo Standoff grabbed my attention from the first paragraph with Tessa McCade staring down an angry eighteen-hundred-pound rodeo bull. Her rescuer, Braden Hayes, a former bull rider, teams up with Tessa to find the person who is trying to harm or kill her. Susan Sleeman’s distinctive mix of suspense, intrigue, conflict, romance, and inspiration keeps the story action-packed and kept me guessing and turning pages to see what was going to happen. I’m always impressed with the authenticity of Ms. Sleeman’s writing. It’s obvious that she has done much research and has worked hard to ensure that the background information is accurate. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy clean suspense stories. I rate this book 4 ½ stars rounded to 5.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of from the author/publisher. All opinions are my own.
I love this series. I love the big family that was introduced in the first book and getting to spend another book getting to know them better. But, the author gives plenty of action throughout the pages as well. The fact they are all law enforcement is the icing on the cake. This book is wonderful – as always, the author starts out with action and continues through to the end. I couldn't figure out the "bad guy" but sure loved reading to find out. I love the real feel of the characters, they are flawed but courageous in the face of danger. They are people I would want to get to know and become friends with.
I was given a free copy of this book from the publisher but was not under any obligation to write a review. This review is my honest opinion.
Following the story of Tessa and Braden....the rodeo barrel racing champion and champion bull rider. This is a compelling story of opening your heart to love. Can Tessa keep herself safe when someone is determined to see her die? Can Branden, former rodeo bull riding champion turned detective be the right man for the job? Not only Keeping Tessa safe but protecting his own heart along the way?
The story of how Tessa and Braden meet and come to develop a relationship with one another is simple, Slightly predictable at times but will keep you turning the pages to see if you are right. I’d aim to say you will never guess who is threatening Tessa’s life.
This is a good easy read touching on matters of the heart.
I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Netgalley; all of the opinions expressed in this review are all my own.

Book two in the McKade Law series is even more exciting than the first book! From the very first scene, we are thrown right into a breath stopping situation. The book is filled with lots of action that will keep you on the edge of your seat. From attacking bulls to barrel racing there is not a slow moment in this story at all. I loved Tessa's and Braden's characters. They are both struggling with commitment issues, but they finally learn to trust God with their relationships. If you love a good suspense story, then you will definitely want to read this book.
I received a complementary copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
