I love the gentle and encouraging tone of this book. I first read a quote by St Claude in Ignatian Book of Days and when I mentioned it to my spiritual director, she sent me this book of St Claude’s notes, letters and writings.

Some of my favorite thoughts of his were:

“My Jesus, let me live on your Heart and pour all my bitterness into it where it will be utterly consumed...I will try to acquire patience. I know it is not the work of a day, but it is enough for me to be sure that it can be attained by effort.”

And

“My Lord, let the world and even the devil take for themselves what I cannot prevent them from having, but they shall never have anything I to do with my heart.”

And

“Be comforted. You have more love of God than you think... you love others. Therefore, do not doubt that you love God. These two loves cannot be separated. It is impossible to have one without the other.”

Perhaps the highest praise I can give this book is that I read ever more slowly as I neared the end because I did not want my time with St Claude de la Colombiere to end.
