Highlighting over two hundred animals found across the west, acclaimed illustrator Tom Hunter provides a fun, fact-filled introduction to wildlife for children ages nine to twelve. Each species has a detailed, scientifically accurate illustration and essential facts about where it lives, what it eats, and what makes it unique. From the largest marine mammals to the tiniest insects, this book will open children's eyes to the amazing variety of animals living all around them.
The author provides about 120 single page descriptions of the mammals, birds, fish and smaller animals of Western Canada. For each, he describes the animal and provides a little information on its range and habit including preferred foods, nesting practices. The book, while dating back to 1986, is still a good of the overview of western wildlife.
This book is so worth picking up if only for the illustrations. I read the entire thing over one sitting camping and was enthralled by the whimsical comic design. I learned so many fun facts, plus it’s a great reference to have on hand. Love love love this book.
