The Boxcar Children are traveling to Skagway, Alaska, for the annual Four-Rock Miners' reunion. Long ago, Grandfather's great-uncle and three other men searched for gold in Alaska. Though they didn't get rich, the men became fast friends and decided to meet in Skagway every year to reminisce and pass on their precious souvenirs -- soapstone raven and a scrapbook. Now the descendants of the original Four-Rock miners are continuing the tradition. The Aldens are looking forward to a week of sightseeing and even panning for gold. But before the fun can begin, the raven and the scrapbook that Grandfather is set to inherit for the year go missing.Did someone else who had come for the reunion steal the artifacts? Soon the scrapbook mysteriously reappears -- but where is the raven?
This takes place in Alaska. The story involves a raven, a totem, a hotel, a scrapbook, a letter, a train, and gold mining. I liked the outdoor activities in the story better than the indoor ones. The mystery was okay. I figured it out before the reveal. The rest of the story made up for it.
This has been one of my more favorite ones in the series. I've really been enjoying revisiting my childhood with the Boxcar Children, especially some of these that I didn't read as a child. I loved the location of Alaska and the lodge, and gold mining. There were a lot of characters in this one and with the books being so small and quick, sometimes you don't get much time to know the difference between many characters.
(4☆ Would recommend) I loved these books as a kid & I'm really enjoying reading through the series again. I liked the mystery & the suspense. I like how there is more than one possible suspect, who each have reasonable motive. Would recommend.
This series was my favorite when I was learning to read. They were exciting, approachable, interesting, and fun books that helped develop my love of reading.
