A clutching story of Hurricane Katrina's fury upon the City of New Orleans and leaving in its wake, hopelessness and despair in the form of broken humanity. Displaced refugees find themselves in Little Rock, Arkansas, a city already brimming with gloom. Soon they find themselves at war with the streets, and those that proclaim dominion over them. The dope-game doesn't discriminate. It accepts them and together, it and the former Nawlins' natives build a relationship unparalleled. But at what cost? Lives are at stake, liberties are questioned and wives and children are at the end of this game with desperate and deadly contestants. Who will win? Everyone cannot. The streets don't allow that. Some will make it and some won't. But when all is said and done the GUTTA will survive.
Beautifully told story that kept my emotions throughout the book.. It was perfectly titled and thorough. I look forward to reading a lot more from this author! I was not surprised by Carl's final decision because he was described so well.. Kool was my favorite character by far. And I liked how he switched from the different squads so effectively.
For a man to leave that Arkansas Dept of Corrections and write a book before rapping #SALUTE. The book was great if i can't read the first 10 pages uninterrupted it's garbage...and Gutta is Gutta seem like I remember some of it but statute of limitations a mug so GOOD BOOK!!!
Gutta is about a heartbreaking story about the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. After the devastation left after the flood, some victims were left to fend for themselves and their families. With little or no resources from the government, they were forced to leave their homes which was now submerged under water. With nothing left and no other options, Kool and his crew migrated to Little Rock, Arkansas. Setting up shop to get that fast money. They needed money and fast. The dope game would provide that. They lost everything and had to recover from the hurricane. Not to mention their families depended on them. They were in full survival mode. This book took you through the emotions each character endured. From losing everything, hustling on the block between rival gangs , gun fire over turf, and continuous watching their backs, the crew never turned on each other. They had that true brotherly love amongst them. I enjoyed reading this book. Well written. Realisic and very believable. A real good hood story. Some parts were sad and I expected a different ending but that's the risk you take in this dope game. A part 2 would be nice just to find out the fate of the crew. Paperback Pushers Deanna, Reviewer
This book deserves another five star rating. First and foremost, there were no spelling errors and if it was, it was so minimal that I didn't notice enough for it to consume me. Also, the dialog was realistic and I believe to be exactly how they talked and got down. This book is hood, so it gave really good insight on the issue of friendship, drugs, death, being built for the game, etc. The characters were believable and although I was distracted on reading some parts, I genuinely grew love or hate for them. As crazy as Carl was, I still hated to see the ending....GUTTA!! I would love to see how the others turned out in a sequel.
