Sergeant First Class Trevor Evans is up for re-enlistment. His last mission went downhill, leaving him wounded and hanging on for dear life. Skye leaves for her vacation to see her old college sorority sisters needing the change of scenery to help her heal. Trevor sees Skye and everything in him tells him she’s the one. Skye can’t get past the dog tags and doesn’t want to get involved with anyone in the military. Her heart overrides her brain and demands her to trust. Can they both overcome their issues to give this relationship a try? Will Trevor re-enlist or stay in? Can Skye return to work and trust Trevor?
Looking for an engaging, quick romance novella - look no further! This the story of two people, both suffering from PTSD, who are on holiday with friends and definitely not looking for love. He is Trevor Evans, and he has horrendous nightmares after his last mission resulted in him being seriously injured and suspecting someone on his team is a traitor. He’s also trying to decide whether to reenlist again, or to leave the armed forces. This holiday with his old military friends is just what he thinks he needs . . . .
She is Skye McKenzie, a therapist who usually enjoys working with her patients - until she is seriously injured when one of her military patients suffering from PTSD attacks her in her office. She’s not sure if she can face going back to work there again and hopes the holiday with her old college sorority sisters will help her heal and to make up her mind about her future . . . .
No, they don’t see each other across a crowded room, instead they meet on the resort pier. The attraction is mutual, as is the reticence. With so much going on in their lives, trust issues and decisions to be made will they choose a life together or go their separate ways? The characters are all well developed and emotively portrayed. This is a lovely, enthralling and very quick read, a delight to escape into and one I thoroughly enjoyed reading and so have no hesitation in recommending.
I chose and was gifted a copy of this novella. This is my honest opinion after reading it.
I recived this book in exchange for an honest review. In this book the 2 main characters have major problems. She's a councillor who had a military patient attack her for no obvious reason, and he's a military man who's just come back from a mission that went wrong and now he suffers from PTSD. These 2 meet purely by accident on a pair and end up starting a romance. However due to recent trauma she feels that she can't be with a military man. Yes coming to the end of his career and has to make a decision on to re enlist or get out. Will they get over everything holding them back from each other or go their separate ways. Find out in this bitter sweet romance you won't be disappointed.
The Storm Within by Christa Ann is a heartwarming book about two damaged people that find a way to heal through each other. Sometimes hope and peace are found in the most unlikely places. This is the first book I've read by Christa Ann but it won't be the last. I received an ARC from the publisher. This is my voluntary honest review.
The Storm Within is a quick, sweet, read. Both Trevor and Skye have PTSD and meet on vacation. I liked both Trevor and Skye, and while I could feel their attraction to each other, the relationship moves really quickly. I would have liked to have seen them work through their PTSD more, it seems to be resolved pretty quickly. I received an ARC of this story, and voluntarily reviewed it.
This is a sweet and sexy read, but stands apart from other lighthearted romance books with its story-line that is charged with deeply emotional subject matter.
Traumatic events and the resulting PTSD have shaped both Skye and Trevor's lives, scarring them physically and emotionally. These challenges provide a common bond for our couple and a mutual struggle that they both must overcome in order to break the bonds of their trauma and trust one another enough to give their love a chance.
This story is deeply relateable for someone with PTSD issues or for those of us who suffer from lingering fear after a traumatic event. Skye and Trevor go through a lot of what other victims go through after such events; nightmares, flashbacks, fear of public places, ect. As their trust in one another other grows, it's deeply gratifying to watch them find strength in themselves.
As a reader, I was definitely rooting for them and I can honestly say I've never read a story like this. When I first picked this up, I expected a casual read with some spice and maybe a little romance. I didn't expect to find a powerful story of two damaged characters that I found myself caring about. This little read has everything that I didn't know I was looking for: passion, romance, and a surprising amount of depth.
I definitely recommend this book for readers who are looking to read a short and spicy romance that has a little more emotional depth to offer than the average narrative!
