This book is excellent! The story is well written, nice length, and beyond my expectations. With plot captivating, it kept me reading and glued to the book from start to finish. The characters are well developed and complex. Stoker is an ex-marine with painful memories from his time in a war zone. He misses his best friend, Cooper, and feels responsible for the tragedy that happened to his friend. When he meets Jessica he finds a reason to live again. Jessica is a singer who is trying to put her life back together again. With her career in shambles she feels like her life will never get better. However, life can fool you sometimes. Stoker and Jessica do not have the best introduction but at the same time sparks fly between them. In the mean time Stoker and the smokejumpers are trying to fight fires and figure out who the arsonist is. The secondary characters are fun to learn about and make you look forward to the next book in the series.
The author took a subject that many do not know about and helped us to learn about it in a fun way. She kept the reader guessing as the story took many twists and turns. She included action, crime, some spanking, love, friendships that are deep and complicated, and hot sex scenes. If I could give this book more than five stars I would. I highly recommend this book as a must read on your reading list. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
It's obvious the author didn't bother to research anything about Missoula or Missoula smokejumpers. The main characters were immature with very little to like about either of them. There were also numerous grammatical errors. I started several times to dnf this book and honestly don't know why I didn't. The last couple of chapters began to show a little improvement, but overall it was a poorly written and researched book.
The first book in the series about the smokejumpers. A very well written story with nice storyline and plot. The characters are likeable and they are well described. They develop nicely through the story. Nice length of the story. The twists that the story has makes it captivating and enjoyable. You just want to know what happens next. A story about finding the one that makes you want to keep on fighting every day. The one that can get up of that dark hole that you seem to be in. A story where the hero has to let the past go and live his future instead. Very emotional and relatable. I like the mix of mystery, angst, suspence, romance and intensity.
I love this author, Piper Stone, for her amazing way of spinning a story that has a large cast of characters, plenty of mystery, suspense, angst, and romance. The story is an edge-of-your-seat page-turner with strong characters, and if you read the prequel, Standing at the Rivers Edge, we had an introduction to Stoker and Cooper. Now this story is several years later, and what was the strongest of friendships had changed with both men fighting demons after their last deployment in Afghanistan.
Stoker and Cooper both served together as Smokejumpers and then went into the Marines. But the last deployment will alter both their lives in a very negative way. One will carry a physical injury, and nightmares and regrets will haunt the other. It will take a determined woman to interfere and shake up these men, even if it cost her a relationship with one of them.
Rocker, Jessica Dunn, lead singer of Fringe is on a downward spiral and taking her bandmates with her. Her latest outburst will be a public humiliation, and a vote to get rid of her. With the help of her best girlfriend, she will go to Montana for a chance to regroup and try and make new life choices. She lives with her own demons in nightmares from her childhood. Her relationship with Chad is in shambles, she is losing her home, and she needs to find not only herself but where she wants life to take her.
The plot will have two unlikely people meeting, and boy does the sparks fly with plenty of angst. Stoker will make Jessica so mad, and she will go off on him, and this will be the beginning of what will become a tumultuous relationship. She has a temper and is not afraid to use it, and he will threaten her with a hard spanking. They say what doesn’t kill us will make us stronger, and that could be the motto for these two. There is an instant chemistry between them, whether they want to acknowledge it or not. Eventually, they will explore those feelings.
The town is experiencing an unusually large number of questionable fires, and when Stoker disobeys orders not to enter a raging house fire to rescue two dogs, he will find himself on three weeks suspension, along with Garcia. For Garcia, this is his push to leave the fire department and join the Smokejumpers. He is determined to have Stoker follow him. When they are short a man or two, Stoker will do the right thing, even if he fears the demons, he will begin to face them for the sake of his friends and his town.
“We all have demons, secrets, and attributes we can’t stand about ourselves. We’re not perfect. We’re human.”
With the interference of Jessica, will Cooper and Stoker be able to mend their rift and renew their friendship again or will this separate them permanently? With the fires, Stoker is sure they are an act of an arsonist, and even more dangerous, someone who could be a firefighter or Smokejumper. Who has an ax to grind and is placing the entire town in danger?
As with all of Ms. Stone’s books, she has an amazing way of keeping you guessing, sharing damaging bits and pieces of clues, giving you information to question certain people, and keeping the mystery going until the very end. The story will have three people, Jessica, Stoker, and Cooper each facing demon’s and nightmares from their past, and hopefully, find what they need to heal and move forward. There are also intimate scenes with mild elements of dominance and submission, along with a couple of spankings, and explicit sex scenes.

Piper Stone’s new smokejumper series Fire Devils is finally here! The elite group known as the Jackals starts with Stoker Hanson and rocker Jessica Dunn. Here we also get introduced to the rest of the Jackals team whose motto is Prevent. Protect. And Preserve. They also all believe in old fashioned values when it comes to their women and are fond of spanking. They have a club called Burnout where they get together.
Jessica is this close to losing her home, her career as a rock star is burning her out, and her relationship with her band mate is non-existent. One night, she ends up blowing her career at a benefit. It’s time for her to get away and regroup. So she ends up in Missoula, where she runs into Stoker Hanson.
Stoker is a fire fighter on suspension thanks to not listening to his captain. His friend tries to talk him into joining the elite Jackals smokejumping team, but his demons prevent him from saying yes. That is until he hooks up with the fiery Jessica. Jess craves the discipline Stoker can give her, and she talks him into joining the Jackals. But one of their own may be setting dangerous fires, and Stoker just might be the one to figure it out!
Piper has done an amazing job with this novel and I loved the relationship between Jessica and Stoker. While I have never been a huge fan of Domestic Discipline books, this one was done just right! It had a wonderful plot, hot sex scenes, and suspense that kept me guessing right up until the end. I honestly can’t wait to read the rest of this series!
This is my first book by Piper Stone, I was intrigued by the blurb and wanted to know more about the firefighters and the smokejumpers, and was pleased it turned out to be a good read!!
The story was well written and captured my attention, with several plots that blended together to give a very good and well blended read.
Stoker and Cooper were both with the smokejumpers and then the Marines, but following a bad incident they end up hating each other and their lives, pushing people away and struggling to cope with everyday life.
Lead singer in a rock band, Jessica is on self destruct mode and is taking the band with her. She get voted out and needs a new start to her life and ends up moving out to Cowboy Country in Missoula. She's completely out of her depth being a City Girl but determined to make a go of things. She meets Stoker in the local bar and his gruff and grumpy demeanor outrage her and she gives him a mouthful. They may be polar opposites but the chemistry between them is off the chart. Is there any chance of a relationship between them with so many barriers and demons to get through?
A slow burn romance with some spanking scenes and hot sexy scenes later on.
This book has lots to offer filled with drama, suspense and mystery as an arsonist attacks the Missoula neighbourhood putting everyone's lives at risk, but the story keeps you guessing right up to the end! I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the smokejumpers, the firefighters and the people of Missoula.
If sexy firefighters and second-chance rock stars are your thing, this is the book for you!
Wowza! As you’d expect from the subject matter – elite firefighters known as smokejumpers – this is an extremely intense, hotter-than-the-sun romance with more action and angst than you’d expect from ten books! I was half in love with Stoker (what a name, amirite?) from his very first scene, and he’s so hot (seriously) it’s any wonder Jessica was able to form words in his presence. Jessica is on a downhill slide, not able to shake the demons from her past, but she’s more than enough of a firecracker to keep Stoker on his toes.
Can we say combustible chemistry? Yeah, these two are spitting mad at each other from their very first meeting, flinging insults and shooting death-lasers with their eyes, while at the same time you can see they’re barely resisting the temptation to tear each other’s clothes off and just get down to business.
There’s so much meaty action and emotional turmoil to this book! It’s far more than a simple romance. There’s backstory aplenty, life-threatening fire rescues, dramatic confrontations, triumphant comebacks; in short, everything we want in a book that will just suck you out of your everyday reality and catapult you to the wilds of Montana on a reading journey that will leave you gasping and clutching your pearls!
It’s my first book by this author, but it definitely won’t be the last. I’ve already one-clicked the rest in this series and am planning to hunker down for the long haul. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Ignite, by Piper Stone, is an intense love story coupled with an intense mystery with wonderful characters, especially those of the four-legged variety. Stoker Hanson, a former Smokejumper and Marine, is on suspension from the fire department because he defied a direct order when he went back into the fire to save two animals. He uses this time off to come to the decision that he is going to apply to become a Smokejumper. There have been a high number of questionable fires in the last few months and there's a chance that they're being set by an arsonist. Jessica Dunn is the former lead singer of the rock band Fringe, but her life is spiralling, she's lost the band and the man who she thought was her boyfriend. When Jessica and Stoker first meet, there are sparks, but there are also some underlying, not-so-friendly feelings. Both of them are damaged, but in such different ways, and as they spend more time together, those feelings begin to change and grow stronger. Jessica is able to give Stoker the courage to move forward, and she is finding the love she has for music by taking it in a different direction. I really like them together, along with the horses and, of course, MacGyver, and they definitely earn a hard-fought HEA. The side characters are significant and important as they add layers of imagination to the story. The narration is wonderfully done by Skylar Morgan. His dynamic voice, the pace at which he reads, coupled with the emotions he brings to each character make this book come to life.
I kept going back and forth between really liking this story and being really frustrated with it. I liked the idea of Jessica being down on her luck and starting over somewhere new. I liked Stokers brooding nature and the firefighting was very sexy. The overall storyline with the arsonist was very interesting as well. Then there were some things that just didn't work for me. The "domestic discipline" which is talked about some but not really practices just seemed forced and did not seem to fit the story at all. There is a group that meets to discuss it and that just seems kind of weird and out of place with these characters and this story. The dialogue between Jessica and Stoker was very stilted and seemed juvenile a lot of the time. Then there was the constant waffling on Coopers innocence. One second Stoker suspects him then the next he is swearing on a bible that Cooper couldn't have been involved and it just went back and forth too much for me. Stoker came across as too weak a character for me. I am hoping that since this is the first of the series that it flows a little better going forward.
Jessica was once a highly successful rock star. Her last demon filled melt downs and erratic behavior ended her career. She ends up in Missoula Montana trying to put her life back together. She bumps heads with her cowboy, firefighter neighbor. Stoker, is a former smoke jumper, former Marine, now a rancher and firefighter. He suffers from PTSD, is past demons ride him hard. His firey red headed new neighbor, with demons of her own, is trying to break down his. walls. He falls hard. While Jessica starts to find herself again, Stoker sinks deeper into the hell he has been living in. Jessica's well meaning and long past due meddling nearly destroy their fragile relationship. An arsonist threaten' s the city, pulling Stoked back to the smoke jumpers. Evidence points to a firefighter. Cooper, Stoker's estranged former best friend, seems to be the prime suspect. A fast paced and steamy romantic suspense, with a little domestic discipline.
This is a good story with three basic story lines – first, a love affair between two extremely troubled people, Stoker, who has serious issues from bad experiences in wartime, and is a fireman and smoke jumper, and Jessica, who is a failed singer who has lost her band, her home, and her previous relationships, and has moved to Montana to start over. The second is a mystery involving serious arson fires in the area of Missoula, Montana. The third is the antagonism between Stoker and his old friend, Cooper. All three of these story lines converge and work toward resolution with a lot of emotion and action. While the love affair between Stoker and Jessica is central to the story, it is only part of this interesting story – and their sex and spanking episodes are interesting and a part of all the other action and emotion that takes place.
I just loved how this interwove a few stores together as well as starting with how Jessica came to be in Missoula, Montana as well as what Stoker was like prior to her arriving. Their characters as well as the supporting ones were well rounded and you really connected with them. Jessica is feisty and stoker is lost and they clash so well while trying to work out who they really are and what they want from life. I felt the book contained so much without feeling like there was too much detail and flowed well, it was also great how you got to know the other characters who would feature in future books. Now the question is will Jessica and Stoker get together or will her past pull her back and he never get over the anger and guilt her has?!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

ByDonna Lon November 29, 2017 Format: Kindle Edition This book was intriguing, well structured and vividly written. The relationship between Stoker and Jessica was a highlight for me.Both of them had demons of their own and complex issues to deal with.Jessica's career as lead singer of the fringe is spiraling out of control, she is at risk of losing everything. She seeks peace and to gain control of her life in Montana. Stoker has his own problems, a hero with with Haunting memories that plague him day and night. This unlikely pair meet and sizzle. She is quick tempered but Stoker has his own way to manage this. The plot will see mystery, danger, arson and romance. Will their romance withstand the obstacles they face.I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book.
The lady in this story Jessica Dunn, is a star from the beginning but she has lost her drive and her love for her music, which is why she can not write or perform. She goes to stay at her friend's fathers ranch and meets a smoke jumper with a dark past that he has run from. She falls for him then tries to fix a situation and gets in the middle of a relationship that is both mysterious and tempuous. But her interference works, unfortunately there is an arsonist setting fires who seems to have a lot in common with her mans best friend... Its a good story with a slight edge of dominance but spanking is all the real rough behavior and she has fantasy about it.
Jessica is part of a rock group in the middle of a performance she froze and forgot the words to her own lyrics that she wrote. Jessica possible needs a change she is in a bad relationship what will she do.
Stoker has his demons also when he meets Jessica things don't go well and they argue. There is danger in this story like all the rest it leaves you on the edge and is real intense at times I love this smoke jumpers series there is something about a man in a uniform whom risks his life to help someone.
I voluntarily received an arc copy through Booksprout for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this one. I was excited to read about the smoke jumpers what they do, etc. This one has an amazing story for both of these two main characters, as well as some suspense and drama. This is one of my favorites by this author. I loved the actual story that was written for each of these two different types of characters. I really enjoyed the main characters. Each one is having some problems in their life and how they work about fixing them. Plus they have some great chemistry.
I listen to this on Audio. Skyler Morgan did a wonderful job narrating this beauty. I can’t wait for more in the series.
The first book in a new 7 part series about Smokejumpers. This story is about Stoker.
3;5 stars. I loved the action scenes in this book. I was reading on the edge of my seat. And I had no idea who the arsonist was. There are great secondary characters, they made me laugh.
The main characters aren’t very likeable for about 90% of the book. That made it hard to connect to them. The Stoker we met in the novella Standing at the Rivers Edge is gone. He lost himself and is struggling to find himself again.
I will admit I that it took me awhile to get into the story but I enjoyed it !
Jessica I could relate to her on so many different levels ! OMG! I was rolling when she first meets stoker lol
Stoker I like his character and personality this one hawt cowboy and I usually don’t like the whole cowboy type genre but this one has me re-thinking it lol I just loved the banter and innermusings
Maggie I loved her she reminds me of a very real life friend of mine lol Highly recommended!! **I voluntarily reviewed a Advanced Reader Copy of this book **
This is the first book in the series and it is a really great read. This is a great romance with plenty of action and drama it had me pulled right in and has me completely hooked.Jessica was the lead singer of Fringe and after being kicked out is in Montana to start over.Stoker is a smoke jumper and former Marine and is still having some issues after serving. These two meet and the heat between them is smoking and damn she has a temper I just loved these two.It was a super read and I am looking forward to reading more of this series
This story is exciting, adventerous, and sexy hot. Stoker has demons from his past that he can't get over. Enter Jessica, this spunky, sarcastic, sexy rocker chick, who came to Missoula to rest and sort out her life. She has her own demons she's fighting too. There is a danger lurking in the shadows. Piper Stone story had me guessing to the end about the arsonist. Oh and Skyker Morgan tells this story with so much emotion. He nails all the characters. One of his best performances..He is phenomenal.
As I just finished reading 'Standing at River's Edge' which is the prequel to the Fire Devil series, I was delighted that the first book is already available. I loved the prequel and I was not disappointed with the continuation. The book drew me in right from the beginning. The story was suspenseful and exciting. Jessica and Stoker had great chemistry and I really liked them and the other 'Jackals'. I feel 'Three Rivers Run Deep' is a successful start of a new series.
The blurb for this book is very ambiguous. It is a very good story. There are plenty of twists and turns. A real enjoyable story. All the characters are well written and described. Two wounded and injured souls meet, learn and fall in love. It's a sweet mystery story. I normally hate mystery stories but this one is so different and has plenty of other elements it fits well together. I received an ARC copy of this book and I highly recommend it.
A very good book. The characters were so well-written. You could almost feel the heat between Jessica and Stoker. I liked Stoker, and at the same time, he was so frustrating I wanted to scream. Cooper was a close second.
This book was full of action, suspense, and mystery, along with the romance. Let's just say it was intense, but so enjoyable. I didn't want to put it down.
I absolutely recommend this book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy.
I'm really undecided about this story. The relationship & the chemistry between Stoker & Jessica I quite liked but individually they just didn't do it for me. I also found myself annoyed by Stoker - here's a guy in an occupation which would require self discipline & he's losing his temper at every turn! I did like the twists in the story & it did set up nicely with characters forming a basis for a series.
Smoken hot start. I will definitely read the rest of the series. That said I found some of it a little confusing here and there. But eventually it comes all comes together. This book was given to me for free at my request from the publisher or author and I provided this unbiased voluntary review. Reasons I enjoyed this book: Action-packed, Easy-to-read, Great world building, Haunting, Happily Ever After, Original, Page-turner, Romantic, Scary, Steamy, Witty, Wonderful characters.
This was such a good story. Two people with such baggage but just may be able to save each other’s souls if they give love a chance. However, there is an arsonist on the loose and it just may be one of the firefighters or smokejumpers. This book has so many twists and turns, you keep guessing as to who the arsonist is. This was a really great read and I am really looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
This is an enjoyable read because the characters are both interesting and complex with Jessica Dunn losing her job as the lead singer with the Fringe and her home due to non-payment and Stoker being a fireman and being on suspension, then throw in a arsonist and you have a riveting story. This book deals with loyalty, love, risks, and conflict which all gives you some heart wrenching moments. I can't wait until the next story comes out in this series.
