A prose-poetry coming of age story with a dark underbelly, written as a series of suggestive vignettes exploring the often romanticized pain of human relationships. The allure and ugly side of lust, coupled with the obsession of unrequited love. Our anti-hero Jason Murdock is the dealer of illusions, no longer capable of distinguishing between what is right and what is wrong. There’s a thin line crossed back and forth, in which he has allowed himself to believe he is smarter and better than all the women he meets, the crafter of his own life; when in fact he is still the child, influenced by the dangerous mind of his mother. The unexpected appearance of Bianka creates the final rupture to his façade.
Devon West is such an intriguing author. Thus far the most invigorating appreciation for her work comes from the way her words are vividly woven in brilliant imagery. It’s as if she takes her divine talent for painting and affords the reader the same experience in words. I was late to the party lol in purchasing this beauty but I am forever grateful for being exposed to Devon West the Author/Artist. Best Regards - Ki
An entrancing book by a genius author. Each chapter filled with rich metaphors and a delightfully dark story that keeps the reader guessing. There are so many wondrous parts to this book that profoundly resonated me, and I believe any who reads this masterfully presented book. Here is one of many great lines, "I am the dealer of illusions stealing from the children while being watched through a double-sided mirror in a sound proof booth that delivers thoughts through feeding tubes." WOW! Each word used makes me want to read everything the author writes. Raw and broken, the author describes Bianka in such a way by painting every scene she is in, allowing us to know this cold being who has been through so much in her short life. Curious and subversive, but this time she bit off more than she could chew when she meets Jason. I should say no more of the story, but know that you will be taken by each part, feeling every moment as though you are with the character, watching and experiencing.
