How does the Master teach? Wilson the Pug, everyone'a favorite canine Taoist, is about to find out. Otto, the wise old pug who taught him the ways of the Tao-te Ching, is retiring to Boca Raton. Wilson is next in line to take his place as Master of the Taoist pug lineage, but before he can assume his rightful position he must train his own successor. Through funny letters and charming photographs, Wilson confers with his apprentice, Homer, on the subtle wisdom of the Tao. Unfortunately for Wilson, Homer is more interested in filling his stomach than feeding his mind. And he'd rather nap his way to wisdom.
Wilson the Pug is a direct descendant and lineage bearer of Pug-tzu, companion of the ancient Chinese philosopher Lao-tzu who is widely credited with authoring the Tao-te Ching. With Nancy Levine, Wilson is the author of The Tao of Pug, Homer for the Holidays, Letters to a Young Pug, and The Ugly Pugling. He lives in Berkeley, California where he finds much tolerance for his Taoist canine American lifestyle.
What do you get when you take a Pug named Wilson who is trained in the art of Tao, is a famous canine philosopher, and who must advise his successor, Homer, in the ways of Taoism? You get Wilson the Pug, soon to be Master of the Taoist Pug lineage, who must impart his wisdom upon young Homer. And how better to do this than through letters to the budding protege, accompanied by photos to document the ways of Tao--and the ways of a Pug.
LETTERS TO A YOUNG PUG is the third book in the Wilson the Pug series, following THE TAO OF PUG and HOMER FOR THE HOLIDAYS. Along with talented animal photographer Nancy Levine, Wilson attempts to help his soon-to-be Tao successor learn everything he needs to know through letters and accompanying photographs.
What a wonderful book! Beautiful photographs and laugh-out-loud letters that give new meaning to the phrase "it's a dog's life," LETTERS TO A YOUNG PUG will appeal to dog lovers everywhere. Whether you're five or one-hundred and five, you won't go wrong with this gorgeous book. I actually read it to my children, ages five and nine, and both loved it. Although the five-year-old was more interested in the pictures (from cute to hilarious to everything in between), my son thought the letters were interesting, as well. In his words, the writer has a "great imagination." I couldn't agree more!
Be sure to pick up a copy of this book for all the dog lovers on your Holiday shopping list, for your children, or just for yourself. The discipline of Tao comes alive, as does the world of Wilson and Homer. An absolutely beautiful, entertaining book!
I loved this book. I have a pug so i related to it even more. It had a wonderful story to tell and some simple life lessons i think we over look to often.
Letters to a Young Pug is a delightful and unexpectedly wise exploration of life, learning, and laughter all seen through the eyes of a charming Taoist pug. Through witty letters and endearing photographs, Wilson the Pug guides his apprentice, Homer, with a mix of humor and heart that captures the very essence of the Tao: simplicity, patience, and joy.
Nancy Levine has once again transformed the everyday quirks of canine life into a gentle meditation on being present, embracing imperfection, and finding meaning in small moments. It’s whimsical yet profound a book that makes you smile while quietly nudging you toward introspection.
Letters to a Young Pug is more than a charming pet book; it’s a tender fable of mentorship and mindfulness that resonates far beyond its pages.
