This contemporary Christian romance is the fourth book in the Front Porch Promises series.
Amanda Reynolds has always dreamed of being a songwriter and recording artist, so she drops out of music school and heads for Nashville. But when her car breaks down in a tiny eastern Tennessee town, her dreams take a big detour.
Mitchell Cunningham loves running his garage and repairing cars in his small hometown. But Amanda’s appearance makes him reconsider his priorities, especially the one about staying away from any woman who doesn’t share his small-town dreams.
When a big break in the Nashville music scene comes Amanda’s way, what will Mitch do to keep from losing the woman he loves?

A Song to Call Ours is the fourth installment from Merrillee Whren’s fabulous series, Front Porch Promises. I loved it! This is by far my favorite that I have read by this author to date. It has what I love in a book: delightful story, clean and sweet romance, and laugh out loud humor. I would most definitely recommend A Song to Call Ours. It is one not to be missed. I give it 5 plus stars. I received this book from the author, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
I really enjoyed this contemporary romance novel. The fourth story in the Front Porch Promises series, A Song to Call Ours also stands alone nicely. The characters were dynamic and full of heart, questioning how to know when a leading was from God or from their own desires.
Amanda frustrated me at times with her spur of the moment decisions and resistance to Mitch. However, she was still a character that I liked and hoped the best for. I thought Mitch was a great guy and empathized with him all throughout the book. And, my goodness, there was one point in the story that the author perfectly captured the heart wrenching feelings that Mitch was experiencing, and I could feel it myself, too. So moving!
I’ve enjoyed this entire series and can recommend each of the stories to fans of contemporary romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I really liked this book! It was probably my favorite in the series of Front Porch Promises series. I enjoyed all the books, I just happen to like this one the best, I think! Amanda was a feisty heroine and although she doesn't think things through all the way before she does them, she has big dreams and she doesn't let anything get in her way on her way to achieving them! Until her car breaks down on a road in a small town in Tennessee where Mitchell Cunningham rescues her. It just so happens that he owns the garage in town and will fix her car but it's her daddy's car and she doesn't have the money to fix it....so she's carless, homeless and jobless! Mitch pretty much falls for Amanda right then and there even though he's been burned by love recently and fights his attraction tooth and nail. Amanda wont let anything get in her way of getting to Nashville to become a singer but she has a lots of bumps along the way. These two characters and a host of others in the book quickly became real people to me! I hated seeing the book end! Although Mitch desperately wanted Amanda to stay in his small town, he knew that she needed to follow her dream to Nashville. I was very proud of him for doing that as I knew it broke his heart to do so. A lesson for us all! A great book about dreams and love and caring about others. I highly recommend it!!
Amanda is on her way to Nashville to try and break into the music scene when her car breaks down in tiny Pineydale, around three hundred miles east of her destination. Her father has cut off her finances, so she's broke.
(I have to say I'm with Dad here. Colleges get loonnggg summer holidays, so why quit? Why go now? Why not wait until summer? Yes, I got the thing about chasing our dreams and we don't know how long we have, but still. There's chasing your dreams and there's being stupid. If her father has paid her college fees for the year, I can see why he'd be made if she quit midyear. And if it's not midyear, then it's not quitting. It's summer vacation. Having said that, I loved the music scenes, and I would have liked more of them.)
Mitch has disappointed his parents by not becoming the hot-shot stockbroker they wanted. Instead, he owns and manages his great uncle's car repair business. He's apparently still recovering from his ex-fiance's unfaithfulness, but he's also instantly attracted to Amanda and not adverse to manipulating her to stay in Pineydale so he can get to know her better.
Yes, I had a few issues with the characters. Mitch has sworn off women, yet latches onto Amanda with almost no hesitation. Well, we're told he hesitates (a result of the cheating ex), but we're not shown it. As a result, Mitch didn't come across to me as a fully rounded character. In fact, I thought he was somewhat boring and a bit of a chauvinist. He made it easy to put the book down.
Amanda has an MBA and half a music degree, so she's obviously intelligent. But this didn't come across. It's not that she was stupid, just that she made some silly decisions. I suspect Mitch and Amanda will make a good couple, but they're the slightly boring couple I nod politely to in church, not the couple I invite for lunch because I want to get to know them better.
A Song to Call Ours is the fourth book in the Front Porch Promises series, but can easily be read as a stand alone story. I haven't read any of the earlier books, and I don't think that affected my enjoyment at all. Those who have read the earlier novels will no doubt want to read A Song to Call Ours to catch up with their favourite characters.
Overall, A Song to Call Ours is a solid and somewhat predictable contemporary romance. The strength of the story is in the minor characters, some of which feel like they were the main characters in earlier books, and one of whom is being set up to be the hero in the next book.
Thanks to the author for providing a free ebook for review.
This fourth book in Merrillee Whren’s Front Porch Series is my favorite. It is not necessary to read the previous books in this series to enjoy this one as each works as a stand-alone novel. However, I have enjoyed all the books in this series and strongly encourage readers of Christian Romance to read all of them!
Car problems leave Nashville-bound aspiring singer/songwriter Amanda Reynolds stuck in the small East Tennessee town of Pineydale. Mitchell Cunningham, who owns the local garage, finds her on the side of the road and tows her car to his shop. When it is evident that the car is not worth repairing, Mitch arranges for Amanda to stay with his Aunt Charlotte while she works to save money so that she can continue her journey.
Amanda learns that she enjoys the people of Pineydale but is determined that not even her growing feelings for Mitch will derail her dream of making it to Music City. As hard as it is for Mitch, he helps her follow her dream.
The two of them experience emotional struggles as they try to balance their feelings for each other against Amanda’s career path. Should Mitch back off and leave Amanda to pursue her music career? Is it possible for Amanda to find a balance between music and life with Mitch? I became immersed in following the ups and downs of their relationship. Of course, I was pulling all along for love to triumph, but wondering how this could happen.
As always, I found it refreshing to pick up a well written romance that is not littered with foul language or steamy sex scenes. It is also good to see Christian values interwoven into the relationship between the principal characters.
Pick up a copy of this book and get to know the residents of Pineydale. Follow Amanda’s pursuit of her dream and see where it takes her.
Amanda Reynolds is from the city looking to make it big as a singer. Mitch Cunningham is from the country, a small town, who doesn’t plan on leaving. What happens when they meet and sparks start to fly? When she’s given the break she’s been searching for she’ll have to decide whether to leave behind everything she’s found that she didn’t know she was searching for, or stay and never know if she could make it as a performer for a future with Mitch.
Amanda is from Boston and on her way to Nashville to make it big when her car breaks down in small-town Pineydale TN. Mitch comes to her rescue. The usual big city/small town jokes that are expected aren’t presented in the usual light, for a nice change. Amanda’s used to others making decisions for her, but when she makes her own choices, how can she be sure they will be the right ones? Mitch or a career in Nashville-which will she choose? Merrillee Whren’s characters come to life in A Song to Call Ours. Their dilemma, dialogue, and decisions drew me into the story. Sometimes as we follow our dreams, God gives us little surprises along the way and our accomplished dreams turn into more than we could ever ask or imagine.
I received a free copy in the hope that I would mention/review it on my blog. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion - which I've done. Finding Your Place A Song to Call Ours, by Merrillee Whren is a book about two people who have set plans for what their place in life is to be. That is until they meet. Then life gets complicated. A lovely book that warmed my heart as I read it. Amanda and Mitchell are characters that are real and the story line is real and easy to follow. It kept me wanting to know what’s going to happen next. Great Aunt Charlotte adds her own spice to the book. I liked the inspirational thread that weaves through the story. To me it was a clean book, with a warm story that I enjoyed reading very much. It is book 4 of the Front Porch series but stands on its own story. It is a book that anyone who loves to read Christian fiction would enjoy. I highly recommend it as a five star book.
We all have dreams and hope we’re following Gods lead. Sometimes what we dream and pray for is not what God has in mind! In A song To Call Ours, Amanda does just that follows her dreams, at any cost, even the cost of losing someone who loves her, Mitch. It’s when her dreams are everything she could ask for that she realizes, her hopes and dreams, are not Gods plans and her dreams are not what they seem. The story is an on the edge of your seat , drawing you in to find out what Amanda does next! With Mitch in waiting and all the people who have fallen in love with Amanda it’s a must read book you can’t put down!!! I would highly recommend A Song To Call Ours. I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. Lucinda Benoit (Cindy)
When Amanda's car breaks down on the way to Nashville, it almost seems like an omen. A nice guy tries to offer her a lift to town, but she turns him down. The guy offers to send a tow truck back to rescue her. Turns out that Mitch is the nice guy and the tow truck driver. Mitch helps get Amanda settled at his Aunts house. Charlotte could use the company. Amanda gets a job painting houses with Mitch's cousin Jimmy. Is Nashville on hold? Amanda is laser-focused to get there, but Mitch is losing his heart. Can she ever return his feelings when all they do is get in the way of her Nashville dream? This book shows you that all things work together for those that love God and that if you want to see God laugh- just make you own plans. A thoroughly enjoyable read!
A Song to Call Ours is the fourth book in the Front Porch Promises series by Merrillee Whren. I have enjoyed all of them, but this one might be my favorite. Amanda Reynolds is set on pursuing her dream of becoming a singer and songwriter in Nashville. Mitch Cunningham loves his small town garage and car repair shop. When the two meet, somethlng has to give. Their attraction gets in the way of their dreams.
The author is talented at crafting endearing and realistic characters and putting them in a setting where they can grow and blossom. This is a clean, sweet story brimming with faith and hope.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This series has all been good but A Song to Call Ours is the best yet! Amanda is a great character who is determined to be a Nashville star. Nothing....not even love is going to stop her! Mitch is a caring, Christian man who loves living in the small town of Pineydale, Tennessee and helping out his great aunt Charlotte. Sometimes we have to be patient and let God work out His plans for us! You will love this sweet, contemporary story! I received my e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
Can following your dreams be an act of bravery or pure foolishness? In this heartwarming story, the main character pursues her dreams even when others don't agree with her choices. Along the way, new friends are found and learning to rely on God helps her dreams come true. A wonderful story. I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my personal honest opinion.
Fourth in the Front Porch series. Often our parents' wishes and ours don't match. Mitch loves running his great uncle's garage. Nothing or no one will stop Amanda from beginning her country sing career in Nashville. I thought the ending was a pleasant surprise. You won't want to miss the other books in this series, but this book can read alone.
If your looking for a nice romance book that will hold your interest from the very beginning I think you have found it with this one. I really enjoy this series. I don't want to give away any spoilers but I am a firm believer in all things happen for a reason. Grab the book and see what you think.
Awesome book, I love Amanda and Mitch and especially Charlotte.
I love everything about Nashville and music so I was excited to read this book. I enjoyed the music scenes. I didn’t get excited about Mitch. At the beginning he seemed promising, but the character didn’t blossom for me. I didn’t understand Amanda either. Why couldn’t she have a boyfriend and also have her music? They both seemed consumed with themselves. Otherwise, it was a pretty good book.
This was a beautiful romance about following your dreams. I loved the fabulous storyline, the engaging characters and the fact they followed God's plan in their lives. This book is recommended for those who love Christian romance.
A great addition to Front Porch Promises series. A Song to Call Ours is well written with a good plot and believable characters. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy a good inspirational romance.
When Amanda Reynolds broke down in tiny Pineydale, Tennessee, she had no idea she’d find the home of her heart. “Her dreams of getting to Nashville waved goodbye. She left Boston for the lure of Nashville” but she never made it that far. She is ready to take a chance, reckless though it seems. Mitchell Cunningham found his heart, broken down on the side of the road. “His brain was telling him to run, but his heart told him" to take a second look. Accepting Mitchell’s help might be God’s way of helping her, too. As they both learn from their mistakes, they realize that “life is too short to let any opportunity pass them by.” Plucky Amanda finds the courage to follow God’s plan for her life, the courage to dream a new dream. “Mitchell makes her want to forget why she had started this journey.” Delightful Charlotte is the voice of reason, an optimistic sounding board. “If you can’t trust someone you’ve known forever how can you trust someone you’ve just met?” Wonderfully, broken characters who find the faith and courage to trust in God and His healing love. I love that Whren always finds a way to weave in characters from her other stories. *I received a copy of this story from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is a story of perseverance and how God uses circumstan es beyond out control to be able to see what we really want. For Amanda it's to be a musical success in Nashville who breaks down on the way and starts to fall for Mitch a small town mechanic. Mitch will need to let Amanda go her own way before she finds out what she really wants. Will she go back to Mitch or will he move to Nashville or are they doomed? This will show you if God is in control all things work for good. I received a complimentary copy and I am giving a review voluntarily.
