A phenomenal new bizarro horror novella from the grand masters of extreme horror and the most delicious depravity!
Percy is kinky. Percy is perverted. Percy is a loner. Percy is sneaky…
...But most of all, Percy wants to be left alone.
Whether it be a nagging mother or something from his past, it feels like he is always trying to escape something. Will he be able to find his own peace, or will the real world catch up to him? There will be blood. There will be s**t. There will be unusual sexual kinks.
David Owain Hughes is a word-slinger of horror and crime fiction, who grew up on trashy b-movies from the age of five which helped rapidly instil in him a vivid imagination. He’s had multiple short stories published in various online magazines and anthologies, along with articles, reviews and interviews. He’s written for This Is Horror, Blood Magazine, and Horror Geeks Magazine.
Hughes is the author of six horror novels, four short story collections and a plethora of novellas. Although he predominately writes within the bracket of horror and its multiple sub-genres, he’s recently branched out into crime fiction and is slowly carving out a superb series of crime/noir thrillers under the umbrella title of South Wales.
I need new eyeballs!!!!! What in Hades did I just read????? Now this has to be one of the most disgusting books I have ever read and I LOVE IT!!!!
Ummm...definitely not for the feint of heart or queasy - stomached. Be prepared to be sickened and disgusted by this gaggingly gross nugget of filthy depravity. *rubs eyeballs furiously*
Meet Percival.....A .....nope, not gonna do it. Here is where I would normally put a description of the main character or characters, but I am not going to do that because I could never do Percival justice. Just read this book. Not much shocks me, but I will say that this story made me say "EWWWW" and "OMIGAWD" from the very first page and didn't EVER let up.
David Owain Hughes...you definitely out did yourself this time. Peter Oliver Wonder, I am not sure what part you had a hand in....my God.
Review: PUCKERED by David Owain Hughes and Peter Oliver Wonder
Percival James is anal-retentive. Literally. Yes. It's a fetish, and naturally there's a sexual component. Percy is also a disgusting human being. Even his long!suffering mother thinks so. Percy is a danger to his environment: to air pollution, to anybody with sensibilities, to animals, small children--and when he gets really riled up, to adults, who should know better and be able to defend themselves.
Percy' s ins and outs persistently reminded me of a gaggle of ten-year-old boys, fascinated with who could outgross whom. I bet at least one of the authors chortled all the way through writing this novella. (Certainly, Percy chortles, snorts, and giggles all the way through--no matter what.)
Now why did I grant it a 5 star? There comes a point in the story when Percival James, sorry creature that he is, finally gets his focus off himself and his happy sphincter and stops imitating a mental ward patient playing in feces. He finally ACTS. Of course, this turn of events proves disastrous for some, but that's only because Percy had held it in for decades--repressing his emotions. {Ahem.} For me, this was the point when the story shifted from little boys giggling behind a shed, to serious business. It got real.
Fair warning: Some-many of you--are not going to appreciate. There's blood, gore, extreme horror, a suffusion of excrement, personal intimacy in detail, and there's animal abuse--bad, very gory. I told you Percy is no sweetheart. So if any of the above us offensive, revolting, or heart-stopping, please walk away. Otherwise, you may have nightmares. Lots and lots of nightmares.
WARNING: IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENEDED, OR WEAK STOMACHED, PLEASE TURN AWAY! THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR YOU, UNLESS YOU WANT TO TEST YOUR INSIDES TO SEE IF THEY VACATE BY YOUR MOUTH!!!
Books like Puckered make me absolutely detest that I have the ability to picture scenes that I have read vividly in my mind. I loved every bit of this book although I really could have done without some of the visuals that appeared while reading. My son saw me reading this book and decided to come over to ask me ‘Daddy, what is that?’ I turned the book over and said ‘It is Puckered and it is definitely not a book for you.’ He looked at the cover and said ‘Ewwwww, I cannot like that; it’s nasty. It is smelly, it stinks Daddy,’ while he fanned his nose. My son is three. Yes, this book does stink- literally- by what the contents inside provide with the most putrid, smelly and grotesque situations that you could ever think of when it comes to a natural thing that everyone does- everyday.
Percival James is a man-child that lives with his mother who tries his best to get kicked out by doing everything that he is not supposed to do. You see, James has this fetish- a very weird fascination of being the one to hold the longest record. This fetish deals with fecal matter. Oh yes, David Owain Hughes and Peter Oliver Wonder took it there- but do not let that make you shy away from a beautifully crafted story of a shower of blood and fecal residue. James is one of the most vile, disgusting creations that God has ever made. You will be tested in many ways throughout this story while you read about a person that craves something that is so much more different from others. Will James hold the longest record before letting go too early? Find out yourself when you pick up your copy of Puckered, you will not regret it.
Through this story, some things made me laugh (I am somewhat sick in the head, so I found certain situations hilarious), but what made me actually laugh was because this book is so uniquely described by David Owain Hughes and Peter Oliver Wonder. Hughes and Wonder are perfect at constructing such an unparalleled story together. I did not know what to expect when this book arrived at my doorstep; I started to read and thought to myself, yep, they really took it there. Literally, this short is one of the best I’ve read all year. Not only is this story masterfully crafted, but it is one of the most disturbing and grotesque ones I have ever read because it deals with the evacuation of the bowels. A topic that most would not dare to write about for entertainment purposes. If you love to be challenged to read a story from start to finish, then you will love Hughes and Wonder in this epic ride of fecal matter with Percival James in Puckered.
I cannot place or compare Hughes and Wonder to anything that I have read so far- they are completely exceptional. My question to these two authors would be where they were when they came up with the idea for this. Puckered is in the top ten of the best and most challenging reads that I have come across yet. The skills and descriptions that they use to setup the scenes and the characters galvanized me. These two could have screwed up and made one of the worst books ever, but they produced one of the best fetish stories ever, that is purely and satisfying unique all the way around. I will always be looking forward to more from Hughes and Wonder in the future- I will have a section on my bookshelves to fill just for them.
Puckered is one of the most vile books I've read in a long time. So repugnant. I absolutely loved how sick and depraved it was.
The story definitely isn't for the faint of heart or the weak of stomach, that's for sure. There's a very strange kink involved, and if you can't guess what it is by the title and the cover, well...just steer clear if you can't handle an overabundance of bodily fluids.
Puckered tells the story of Percival James, an overweight man-child living at home with his mother. He has no job, pays no rent, and basically does nothing but eat, sleep, and focus on his weird kink.
I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't say anything more, but holy shish-kabobs, Batman, that twist at the ending, while something I suspected was coming, still made me feel like a giddy schoolgirl being asked to her first dance (something that's never happened to me in real life).
Puckered is, overall, a crazy, messed up thrill ride through the dark psyche of the human mind. I've written my fair share of stories involving kinks (fan fiction, not actual stories), but this was unlike anything I've ever read or written or even knew existed. It was pure insanity.
If you're game for horror that doesn't hold back and will both disgust and intrigue you, grab a copy of Puckered today. You may or may not regret it.
Well, for starters, this is my first ever fetish read. Was so shocked at what I was reading in the beginning that I actually questioned myself......if I was really reading this?! Not for the faint of heart that's for sure. These authors really know how to lure you into the fetish world and then really mess with your mind by the twist they manage to include in the very end. If you think you can stomach it............give this a read. You may find not everything smells like roses.
Fair warning, this is not a book for everyone. Most will find it depraved and offensive, which it is but it also an intriguing well written layered story. It is definitely a glimpse into the dark side of human nature and the kinks that define some of that nature. The genre leans towards the bizaro side of things but this book is hard to pigeon hole.
This book was filled with gore, nastiness, and a man with some serious "mommy issues"!!! I really enjoyed this quick read from this team of talented authors. I hated Percy from the moment that I started this book...He reminded me of the gross kid from high school that you just wanted to steer clear of. As I read more and more of this story, I could not help but root for him to get his just desserts.
This book is a well written quick read that left me wanting to take a shower and then grab more from these authors!! I can't wait to take another trip into the twisted and gross minds of these talented authors!!! Very good bizarro read!!!
First off not for anyone squeamish coz well, you don’t wanna know! It’s a gross don’t read it while your eating book. But what a book! I squirmed and laughed and just well. I enjoyed it. Sorry but it definitely entertained me. Percy is minging and you wouldn’t wanna know him. Ever! But he definitely fills this book. Not saying with what but he fills it. Thank you David!
