Why did her friends always ask her to define Jeremiah? Had she noticed? Yes. His swagger was one of the things about him that both scared her and intrigued her. He moved in a way that showed too much confidence and made him too masculine. He might be world-weary and tired, but Jeremiah was still a handsome man. 124

Very unlikely story of a man who left the Amish at age 17, became a Navy SEAL, and then returned to his Amish community to be baptized 12 years later.

He left behind his childhood sweetheart, Ava Jane. She married his best friend and had two children. Then her husband drowned. Now Jeremiah is back.

What can I really say about this book?

One, it would be much hotter with some sex. Worth acknowledges sexiness, which is more than I can say for a lot of Amish-romance authors. She makes sure to let us know that Jeremiah is sexually attractive. But since I know Jeremiah and Ava Jane won't have a slow makeout session, much less fucking, it's kind of sterile and pathetic. Look at these scenes and realize how much better this book could be if our main characters were allowed to have sex:

"Are you afraid of me, Ava Jane?"

"Should I be?" she countered, thinking by the way her heart was pumping, she ought to be afraid. Truth be told, he scared her in more ways than one.

"No," he replied. "You don't ever have to be afraid of me. Whatever I became out there," he said, waving his hand in the air, "I left behind out there."
74

What about this?

"But you've been here all day. Shouldn't you go?"

Jeremiah stood up straight and looked into her eyes again in a way she both remembered and now found different - stronger, hard-edged and way too determined, his expression cut in stone. "Do you want me to go?"
75

Damn. We could have had a really hot book on our hands if only Jeremiah was allowed to take Ava Jane to bed. I would have really enjoyed that.

Another major problem with the book is that Ava Jane is really a jerk to Jeremiah. I can understand her being angry with him, especially at the beginning. She loved him, wanted to marry him, and he left her. Not only did he leave her and the community, but he did it to join up with a violent group and he killed people as a SEAL.

However, Worth makes this worse and more confusing than she has to. Ava Jane is angry and cold toward Jeremiah. Then she warms up to him. Then she gets cold and angry again. Then she's a real jerk to him for no reason. Then she gets this idea about 'he shouldn't be around her children' and that he's 'poisoning her children's minds' or some shit. It just didn't make any sense. I know a romance novel has to have tension, but I was getting angry with Ava Jane and her fickle lukewarm-and-cold treatment of Jeremiah, which seemed to vary based on which way the breeze was blowing that day.

"You will never forgive me. You'll pretend to care and you'll even try to convince yourself that you've let the past go. But if you can't trust me, especially with your children, then what is there left for us to talk about, Ava Jane?" 182

I totally agree with you, Jeremiah. Find another woman.

TL;DR Unlikely that a man would leave Amishville to become a Navy SEAL for 12 years and then come back to resume an Amish lifestyle. Worth writes Jeremiah as if he might actually be sexually attractive, but all for naught as these two are not allowed to anything more than share a chaste kiss.

Also, Ava Jane was annoying me with her treatment of Jeremiah. If Worth had simply had her start out cold and angry and then slowly warmed her up throughout the novel, it would have made more sense. As it is, she fluctuates wildly on how she treats Jeremiah. And her conviction that he's trying to corrupt her children somehow made no sense.

MENTIONS OF GOD: 153. These people just won't shut up about God. It's very annoying.

HOW'S THE SEX, CARMEN?

No sex, this is a Christian romance.

Emotionally charged, rip-your-guts out angsty. A heroine who needs to forgive the hero for leaving her, and their Amish way of life behind, to go off and fight in a war. A hero, suffering from PTSD, who is back in his community, looking for peace, forgiveness, and to care for his estranged father, essentially lying in a coma.

It's unlikely that Amish romance will ever truly by "my thing" - but this one is so well written and so emotionally charged, it does what all really great romance novels should do. Fair warning: there's quite a bit of "God stuff" in this book, and no sex to speak of - but seriously: Amish. Romance. Of course there's no sex and a lot of "God stuff."

I truly loved this inspirational romance novel. I have long been a fan of Amish Fiction and it is my favorite genre. The Author gives her readers a look into PTSD and how it effects the lives of its victims. The characters were strong in their faith and beliefs as they strived to find forgiveness in their hearts for those who had hurt them in the past. I thought the novel was beautifully written and it touched my heart. I definitely will read more books by this author.
This is a story about a young Amish boy and girl who had known each other since their school years. They had been courting as youths and were in love with each other. Then the young man became influenced by someone else who had a career in the Navy. He broke the young Lady's heart when he left the Amish faith and ran away to become a Navy seal.
Years later he returned home like a prodigal son and sought forgiveness from the Amish church and the girl he had deserted so many years ago. Only now he is broken inside and physically hurt. He wrestles with flash backs from his years of serving his country as a Navy Seal. Can Ava Jane Graber find it in her heart to forgive this man and trust him again? Can Jeremiah Weaver forgive himself for going against his faith, as conscientious objectors of serving in the armed forces and killing other human beings in an act of war? Can he forgive himself for hurting the only woman he has ever loved the night he walks away from his Amish faith and left her crying alone in the dark?
I recommend this book to all readers of Amish Fiction, Inspirational Romance and fans of the author.

How could he expect true forgiveness from others if he didn’t have the courage to look at himself in the eye and offer forgiveness to the man he’d become?

Forgiveness is such a powerful tool to free ourselves from self-guilt and shame! It’s a lot harder to forgive ourselves when we know we’ve hurt others in the process. How do you go about reconciling those past mistakes? Jeremiah wrestles with this very thing when it comes to feeling like he’s failed his family and the woman he was to marry years ago. He sets out to prove he’s no longer that old man and strives to make up for those lost years. When all along it’s God who can work in the hearts of those he’s wronged. Finding forgiveness and open arms in the One who can truly heal hearts and lives!

Ava has her own struggles when she knows Jeremiah is back for good. Contending with the fact he left the Amish to become a Navy SEAL and how it conflicted with their faith. She must work through her own feelings to come to accept him as a changed man who relies on the Lord for His strength and his willingness to become part of the community.

I loved that this made me feel all the emotions Ava and Jeremiah felt! There were times when my heart ached for them both and a few times I cried real tears. I could picture everything in my mind and I was so wrapped up in the story! Naturally, the faith elements were alive and well and played a huge part in the story. Faith, forgiveness, redemption, love and a couple of precious children all rolled up into a great start to an Amish series.

This is a lovely reunion romance. Twelve years ago Ava and Jeremiah were in love and she looked forward to settling down with him in their Amish community. Jeremiah was always adventurous and when his Englisher friend who was a Navy Seal died in combat, he felt he had to join the Navy Seals to honour his friend.

He left behind his family and Ava, leaving her broken-hearted. Eventually when she realized Jeremiah was never coming back, she married his best friend and had two children. A couple of years ago, her husband died and Ava is a widow, struggling to make ends meet.

The return of Jeremiah is unexpected and a little scandalous. The only good thing is that he hadn’t made his adult commitment to the community before he left, so there is a possibility of redemption and eventually acceptance.

Ava is shocked when she meets Jeremiah and discovers in herself a deep well of anger and resentment against her first love. She had loved him deeply and though she came to love her husband, it wasn’t the same.

Jeremiah has his own struggles. As a Navy Seal, he experienced things that have left their mark and he is subject to PTSD like many soldiers. Coming home is the most important thing in the world to him, and finding Ava free is both a grief for the loss of his friend and something to give him hope.

I really engaged with this story. They are both good people but the years apart have not been easy for either of them. At times I found it very emotional.

The ending was very satisfying.

I received an ARC from Netgalley for an independent review.

Their Amish Reuinion is the first book I have read by this author, Lenora Worth. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and I will definitely be reading more from this author. The storyline is fast moving and keeps the reader wanted to experience more right up to the end. This story touches on so many things but forgiveness is tha main thing.

The characters are very likeable and realistic which helps to tell the story. I really enjoyed Jeremiah the most. He has traveled a very hard journey and still battles his demons. He is determined and refuses to fails. I absolutely loved how this story played out for him.

I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached by anyone to post a favorable review. All views are my own. I have rated this book with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others who enjoy the Amish genre. This story is so different from what I have read and I know others will enjoy it as well.

Congratulations to Lenora Worth for writing such an outstanding story for all readers to enjoy.

Widowed, single mother, Ava Jane Graber, can’t believe her eyes when she sees that her first love has returned to Lancaster county. Years ago, Jeremiah did the unthinkable when he left the Amish faith, and Ava Jane, behind to become a Navy SEAL. The prodigal hero has returned home seeking redemption from his community, his family, and the woman who still holds his heart, and now his ultimate mission is to become Ava Jane’s husband. But, can he prove to her that he’s really home for good ? Can Ava Jane overcome the pain she felt when he left her behind and give Jeremiah a second chance?

This was such a sweet, simple story and I enjoyed it a great deal. I’ve read some of Lenora Worth’s other books and know that she’s a wonderful storyteller. And I really love reading stories about the Amish, so when I saw that Lenora had written an Amish story, I was excited about getting to read it. I can honestly say that it lived up to my expectations. Lenora has a real gift for telling a story in a way that it plays perfectly in your mind. Couple that with the amazing ability to write dynamic, well developed characters, that you’d genuinely like to know, and it’s a winning combination. This particular story revolves a lot about the importance of being able to forgive others, as well as yourself, and the necessity of second chances. It’s not always easy to let go of the pain that someone else may have caused us and to truly forgive them, but it’s such a necessary part of our Christian walk, because Jesus brings us true forgiveness and salvation. It’s also important to forgive because, until we’ve done so, we can never fully move on with our lives. Sometimes, the hardest person to forgive is ourselves; it’s so easy to hold onto the things that we’ve done wrong, the areas we’ve failed. But all that does is keep us from being able to fully serve a God today. He doesn’t want us to stay miserable because of our pasts. He’s already forgiven us, so why wouldn’t we do the same? I love stories that talk about forgiveness and the prodigal son, as I know it brings much joy to God when one of His children returns to their faith in Him.

I’d like to thank Lenora Worth, Harlequin Love Inspired, and Netgalley for providing me an E-ARC, in exchange for an honest review. I understand that this in no way obligates me to leave a positive review and, as such, neither my opinions about this book nor my review were affected in any way by receiving it in this manner. All opinions expressed in my review are fully my own.

This was a moving story of returning home, forgiveness, facing the past and new beginnings with Jeremiah Weaver return to his Amish community with his father’s health failing. Running into his past love, Ava Jane Graber and her two young children, was not a comfortable encounter. Jeremiah’s struggles with PTSD and connecting to the English family who’s son he had befriended that was in the Navy Seals caused the pages to keep turning to see how the story would progress. Would Jeremiah and Ava come to an understanding of what truly transpired in their lives while he was gone? Lenore Worth’s research with training for the Navy Seals, PTSD and other factors gave depth to this story. Unexpected events transpired that brought new light and answers with Jeremiah’s training being useful in saving a life in his Amish community he fell in love with once again.

This is the first book I’ve read by Worth, but it will not be the last one. I received this book in book swap and was not required to write a write. All thoughts expressed are my own opinion.

This is a story about forgiveness when it is hard to do. I have read many stories about Amish men mainly returning to their faith after years of being in the world. So this is not unfamiliar. What intrigued was the theme, Jeremiah being Seal, I love stories about Seals and the fact that he had to face PTSD and eventually get help.
His return was due to his father dying, but he wanted to return home anyway. He knew that is was going to be long road ahead, he never forget his faith even though he had to kill which was opposite of their tenets. Even know history shows that many were jailed because they would not fight during war when drafted. Anyway, his one true love married and became a widow so he was trying to prove that he was faithful and taking courses for baptism. Ava Jane his former girl was really angry and unforgiven for a long time until she had a meeting with his friends mother who explained some things to her about Jeremiah and PTSD, that helped her and she began to forgive and began to heal.
In the end they were married. He did get treatment so that was good.

This is a wonderful story about forgiveness and redemption and the struggle to find it. Jeremiah Weaver returns to the Amish community that he left 12 years earlier to pursue a career as a Navy SEAL. His father is dying and the girl he left behind is now a widow with two children. While he seeks acceptance and a return to the simple Amish way of life, Jeremiah finds that the most difficult thing is overcoming his own guilt.

Having visited Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and experienced the Amish lifestyle, this story had special meaning to me. It is a story that will pull at your heartstrings, as you are drawn into the lives of the characters. This is the first book in a series that Lenora Worth is planning, and I will look forward to reading the other books.

Lenora Worth delivers another amazing book in Their Amish Reunion. A book about an Amish Navy SEAL is certainly something original! Jeremiah is the ultimate tortured hero. His journey to redemption is very touching, as is Ava Jane's journey to forgiveness. Wonderful characters and a wonderful story.

Good merciful LAWD, was this BAD.

First of all, in order to be a Navy SEAL, you have to 1) have a SSN, which Amish do not, 2) have a GED/diploma, which Amish do not, 3) make it thru basic, which is against Amish custom/beliefs, 4)have a year of service as regular Navy, which Amish do not, and 5) then they have to qualify over EVERY. OTHER. APPLICANT. And the list is extensive. We're talking in-depth knowledge of electronics (which Amish DO NOT have), above average intelligence, high scores in math/retention... NO. JUST NO.

There is NO WAY that Jeremiah was a Navy SEAL. Not a chance. You don't meet a SEAL in Lancaster County (!?!?!) and spend a year with them, become enamored, and *voila!* you are a SEAL, too. First, no SEAL is going to spend a YEAR anywhere - they deploy constantly, and are in constant training the rest of the time. So they're never *IN* landlocked Amish country, let alone for an entire year. It's STUPID.

Worth says he spent that year swimming laps, reading about wars late into the night, running miles, and working out with the SEAL almost constantly. In what time? Amish men are *BUSY*, hello - and if he was working in a carpentry shop with his father? He wasn't doing *ANY* of this. On top of work frolics, church, and courting Ava.

Worth tells us that Edward (SEAL mentor) was off on a secret raid that they watched on television, and right after, soldiers came to the door to tell them he was dead. First, family is NEVER told that family is out on a 'raid'... they're told the SEAL has a 'training exercise', so as not to worry the family. Second, 'raids' are televised, not even after the fact - it would compromise future missions and intelligence. Third, the timing of this stupidity is so obviously for d.r.a.m.a... we just roll our eyes, out here.

We're told Jeremiah loved Ava's curly hair. Have you SEEN the cover of this book? Stick-straight hair on the cover? What possesses LI or Worth or WHOever to screw basic things up?!

WHY is Ava - a devout, peaceful, kind, gentle Amish girl - in love with a boy who had 'destructive tendencies', glorified fighting and war, and was bent on avenging Edward? That is SO OUT OF CHARACTER with an Amish girl, it's not funny. There's NO WAY Ava would associate with him, let alone 'fall in love' with him. We're not given one good reason to believe there's anything between them.

So then Jeremiah comes home to help his family, since his father is dying. Except he *DOESN'T* go home, he goes to Edward's family for several weeks in the SAME TOWN... because reasons. But he's already taking baptism classes to become Amish. Because after 12 years of being 'on the battlefield' (←that would be Marines and Army, NOT SEALS, for the love of all that's holy...!!!!!), immediately the bishop would believe in a change of heart he hasn't seen... is that right?

BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD WRITING!!!!!

Pg 27: "Your daed is gravely ill. He might not ever know you are home but he will be glad in his heart to see you return." Go ahead, try to wrap your head around how a man oblivious to the son's return is going to be glad about it. Because BAD WRITING!!!!! GAHHHH!!!

When we start this mess, Ava sees Jeremiah for the first time in twelve years and drops her groceries all over a parking lot. WHY? Because the author says her arms inexplicably gave out? What is that, anyhow... other than stupidity-induced drama fabricated for effect? Ugh, ugh, ugh.

Then Ava goes to a "get together to quilt and bake" that "some might call a frolic, but they also worked and prayed and shared common joys and concerns". ALL OF WHICH IS WHAT HAPPENS AT A FROLIC!!! GAHHHHHHHH!!!!! Does Worth even know what she's writing? I'm sorry, but that's a valid question, at this point. It's obvious she hasn't researched the SEALs, and doesn't know a single thing about the Amish... so what gives???

A few days later, Ava is surprised to see her mom and sister coming over. "Her family lived just around the curve, close enough to walk across the field between her land and theirs... she visited them weekly and they stopped by to check on her often." So if that's the case, WHY is a surprise that they came over, again? Because that's normal, or so we're told, so... NONE OF THIS IS MAKING SENSE.

Her mother wants her to go to Jeremiah's house, because his father is dying and the wife and daughter who are BOTH there with nothing to do but clean, cook, and care for him... can't handle it, and Ava *definitely* has to go over there to help???? What kind of ridiculous plot arc is this, and why are we supposed to buy into it, again?

I'm sorry, this is just beyond stupid, preposterous, and ridiculous. I'm out. DNF @ 36 pages, because it's badly written, horribly characterized, illogically plotted, and HORRIBLY done. Pass on it. It's utter garbage.

This was a sweet story to read and at the same time hard. Jeremiah had gone to the English world to become a SEAL and fight in Honor of his friend Edward. But leaving to do this was hurting and breaking the heart of Ava Jane the Amish girl he so loved and loved him.

Leaving her behind, his friend Jacob cared for her with his friendship which in time turned into Love for her. Despite her love for Jeremiah she married and had 2 children. One horrific accident she is left widowed and caring for her children with the goods she bakes.

Until Jeremiah suffering great pain inside his soul and his once strong dad falls ill. He returns to the town of Campton to gain forgiviness from God, his father, his community and especially from Ava Jane. Only to discover she is widowed but with so much hurt and pain inside of her towards him. With many matchmakers in the story and events that bring them close. Ava Jane soon accepts the fact that her pain is not because of Jeremiah but her own tormented memory and feelings for Jacob her deceased husband. And soon finds forgivness for Jeremiah. And Jeremiah soon learns to open up his broken heart left by painful memories of him in combat in the service. And together both different with painful memories walk hand in hand for a happier and hopeful future together.

I enjoyed this story so much. All the painful memories Jeremiah had inside him. Opened up my memory of what my friend went through when be was in the service. And all the nightmares he had. And how me and my sister helped him in just a couple of simple ways.... Friendship and Prayer.

This is a wonderful start to the author's 'Amish Seasons' series!

I enjoyed getting to know the two main characters, Ava Jane and Jeremiah. They have known each other since childhood, and they have a shared history of angst, grief, and betrayal. They also have good memories of special times spent together over the years.

Jeremiah was a Navy SEAL, and I enjoyed the fact that this story included a member of the US military since the previous generations of my family were service members during WWI, WWII, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War.

Excellent character and setting development makes this book one of my favorite Amish reads of 2020.

Highly-recommended to fans of Amish/Christian/clean romance, military romance, historical romance, and Amish/Christian/clean/military/historical fiction.

Honestly, my first thought when I saw this book, was one of genuine surprise and pure happiness. I have been a fan of the authors work for a few years and look forward to her new releases. Amish fiction is one of my favorite genres, so win-win, right? In this case it really is a win, for readers and the author.
I loved the storyline of Jeremiah Weaver returning to his family and community in Lancaster County after having been a Navy SEAL. This isn't the usual career choice for an Amish man, which added to my enjoyment of the book. I adored Ava Jane Graber, a young widow with two children. She is sweet, kind and a person I would like to know.
We go on a journey with the characters as Jeremiah returns home to his family and most importantly, his faith. We are with Ava Jane as she faces struggles of her own. This is an emotional story of pain and forgiveness and one I highly recommend.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

A story about forgiveness, and an unusual one in that our main Amish character is a former Navy Seal, and is wanting to step back into his old life in his safe community.
The author has him leaving behind a young Amish woman Ava Jane, who was madly in love with Jerimiah, and now this woman is a widow with two young children.
How does the community, including Jerimiah, who needs to forgive himself, and the basis of their faith, forgive? What an easy thing to say, but a really hard thing to totally do.
As we journey through this story we are able to live the daily of lives of these folks, and we watch a Jerimiah pours out his pain to his family, and in particular to his Dad. Will he find what he is looking for here, and will he be able to resume his religion?

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Harlequin, and was not required to give a positive review.

Their Amish Reunion by Lenora Worth is a heartwarming story that draws you in from the very beginning.

The novel follows Jeremiah, a Navy Seal who is returning home to his Amish roots and Ava Jane, a widowed, single mother and the girl that Jeremiah left behind twelve years ago. It is a story that is filled with heartache from the past, but yet filled with the promises of the power of forgiveness. The emotions that the author weaves into the story leap off the page and grab ahold of your heartstrings.

If you enjoy Amish stories, then Their Amish Reunion will be a book that you will no doubt enjoy.

This is a quite different Amish storyline: How does a former Navy SEAL return to his Amish faith and community after his service to his country, especially when he has to deal with the things he’s seen while away at war? This is a touching story of love, loss, forgiveness, and redemption. The characters of Jeremiah and Ava Jane find themselves struggling to both love and accept the circumstances of their lives. Lenora Worth does a great job of making their story both intriguing and believable. A clean, sweet romance with no bad language or embarrassing scenes.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to give a positive review. This is my honest opinion about this book.

Their Amish Reunion by Lenora Worth is book one in the Amish Seasons series. But it is far from the author’s first book. Lenora has written close to eighty books. I have enjoyed reading her Love Inspired stories over the past few years.

In Their Amish Reunion I liked the main characters, Ava and Jeremiah. Jeremiah had something to prove, but in a good way. There is much need for forgiveness and hearts to be open to the possibility of love for several people involved in Jeremiah’s life. It was good how the author showed Jeremiah’s inner struggles. This story is about how restoration can occur, even if it is a struggle getting there.

I love loved this book!
I love it because it's quite different from your normal Amish fiction.
This is a new to me author and I'm hooked already. I would love to see more from her.
Jeremiah and Ava are an intriguing couple! I love them because they come with flaws and Jeremiah strives to prove himself in his Amish community.
I love that Forgiveness is the theme throughout this story because at the same time it offers hope.
I loved this book and I strongly recommend it!

A hard to put down book. A book of Love & forgiveness. When a Ava Jane a young widow and the mother of two, sees Jeremiah, whom has been gone for so many years, she wants to know why he has come back . He had been her first love so many years ago. . She doesn’t want to let him back into her life but a tragic happens in her family. Will she learn to forgive?
Jeremiah crying out to God:
Is that the way with You, Father? You take something You created and save it over and over again, the way You are trying to save me. I want to be worthy. I need to be worthy again.

Their Amish Reunion is a lovely story that includes heartache, joy and love all twisted around to show how faithful the Good Lord is to His people. The Amish depiction of the family is quite well portrayed by the author. Their dialect and tenderness is an appealing factor in the story. The book is very well written and the characters were presented in a realistic setting which drew me in, as the reader. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a sweet story that includes some heartache and joy in the lives of the characters.

A good entertaining read.

Jeremiah is returning from military service to his Amish hometown. He has come home and back to his roots. But will he be able to remain and deal with his memories?
Ava Jane was his first love will she be able to forgive him?
