it’s the way that nora roberts, a romance writer with a pseudonym for her crime thriller books, wrote a romance about a crime thriller writer who used a pseudonym for his romance books... she called out the stigmatizers of the romance genre & i’m GLAD. metametametametameta

i gave the first two stars & the second 3. i rounded up.

This book was put together with two shorter novels from the 80's. Both are about strong women who are working their way up their professional ladder.
In the first story, Brooke is a director who is great at her job. She needs to direct a baseball player with an equally big ego, who manages to break through the protections she has erected to develop a relationship with her.
The second novel, is about a reporter for a 1st class magazine, who despite her wealthy background, is trying to make it on her own. Lee is trying to get a story on a mysterious best-selling writer of horror novels and finds that he is leading her to a very different type of writing than she imagined.
Both stories were very enjoyable.

The first book, Rules of the Game was good, the male character, Parks, was everything, smart, good looking, great personality, etc. But why was the female character, Brooke, made out to be somewhat of an unpredictable female? No rhyme or reason for her actions/moods. With all her money, couldn’t she have gotten therapy to get deal with her broken childhood? Good story, but ....

The second story- Second Nature, was somewhat similar, except these two, Hunter and Lee were both writers and had very strong personalities. They had a much easier time finally dealing with their jobs, distance, etc. Good book, both had the men becoming very smart, figuring out what their girlfriend was going to say, what she was feeling. The men had great parts.

Rules of the Game: 3 Stars
Typical, older Nora Roberts book. I wasn't a fan of the narrator for this one so it did kind of make me not like the book. I probably would've done better reading it.

Second Nature: 4 Stars
Pretty good older romance by Ms. Roberts. You can tell her writing style has evolved (some stuff for the better) as the years have gone by. I liked the two main characters, Hunter and Lee. Their romance was a typical classic romance story. Well written (as always!) book.
