I've wanted to be a children's book author as far back as I can remember. When I was eight years old I wrote a story about a rabbit. I am still writing stories about rabbits- and mice, cats, children, monsters, and dragons!

When I was growing up, I was the neighborhood storyteller. I would make up stories on the spot for younger children in the neighborhood. I read a lot of books. But I was also a bit of a tomboy. I spent much of my time outdoors, usually barefoot, climbing trees and stone-hopping across brooks.

On my way to becoming a children's book author, I was also a teacher and a children's librarian. I always liked story hours best. When my own children, Krista and Melissa, were small, I read to them constantly- stacks and stacks of books. I think I learned the most about writing from all that reading.

Today I live in Hamden, Connecticut, with my wonderfully encouraging and supportive husband, our two daughters, and our cat. We live in a white house with lots of flowers.

Read this book for the anthology prompt for my children's lit class. It was a cute collection of stories a father rabbit tells his children while they wait for spring to arrive. The illustrations that go with each story are whimsical.

Oh how I love the old drawings and pictures in these books. The stories were also adorable.

"Waiting for Spring" was a book that I wouldn't necessarily read very often if I had a choice, as it is primarily read when you want to introduce younger children to the different times of years, seasons, and when they normally occur. I did enjoy the illustrations and the characters of rabbits, but since the book is divided into sub-stories, I didn't enjoy the book as much as I would have liked. I did like the aspect of being a rabbit and how they grow up and funny surprises that happen throughout it.

This is an absolutely delightful collection of short stories. These stories are funny, sweet, and memorable. In a world full of obnoxious twaddle for young kids, this is one of relatively few books for very young children I would say rises to the bar of "literature." My son is not yet 2, but already loves these stories and engages by making sound effects or filling in words. Some of the funny moments make him laugh out loud. I'd say the prime age for this is preschool, but toddlers who can handle text-heavy books will love it too.
