But when Ruby's plans end up hurting a friend, she's not sure her story will have a happy ending after all. The Ruby Starr series is perfect
Another fun-packed Ruby Starr adventure for my 10-year-old daughter and me to read, discuss, and get excited about. The Fantastic Library Rescue and Other Major Plot Twists picks up where Ruby Starr left off. I absolutely love that Ruby and her nemesis from book one, Charlotte, are now good friends -- their relationship's development from rivalry into friendship beautifully illustrates what I have been trying to convince my daughter for years -- that first impressions aren't always accurate, that people have more depth than can first be perceived, and most importantly that people -- in this case both Ruby and Charlotte -- can grow and develop, learn from their mistakes, and change for the better.
Ruby is just my kind of character -- a book person! With every new Ruby Starr book, daughter is becoming more and more a "book-person." Ruby is an endearing character, with all her flaws, and weaknesses, but also with her openness to try new things, her courage in facing disappointments, and her great big heart! We felt for Ruby when things were not going as she had hoped, we pained with her when she thought she had deeply hurt her friend Will, and we cheered for her as she attempted and succeeded in turning disappointments into successes. Yay, Ruby! Keep 'em coming, Deborah -- we're ready now for the third book!

Like Ruby Starr, I also believe that every good book should always have a sequel…one that reminds you how much you loved the first, but takes you on an even more imaginative adventure—the kind that encourages every reader to put pen to their own epic poem. Besides, who could ever pass up a good pickle cupcake or another delightful dose of Ruby Starr? Brava!
Ruby Starr loves books. She and her best friends are in a book club at school, and they often head to the library for suggestions when they want to choose their next selection. So when Ruby finds out that the library’s funding may be cut, which means fewer books and shorter hours, she decides to do something to help. Along the way she learns an important lesson about friendship too.
Ruby Starr: The Fantastic Library Rescue by Deborah Lytton highlights Ruby’s great imagination and her efforts to balance what’s important to her in life: family, doing well in school, being a good friend, and making a difference for something she believes in. Illustrations of Ruby’s daydreams about all kinds of situations keep the story fun and interesting as Ruby meets challenges and figures out how to meet them.
This second in the series is a good follow up to the first. Ruby’s struggles and successes are sure to resonate with 9- to 12-year-old readers, who may also feel empowered and inspired to work for a cause of their own after reading the book.

I am reviewing a copy of The Fantastic Library Rescue and Other Major Plot Twists through Sourcebooks Jabberwocky and Netgalley:
Ruby Starr is a fifth grader who loves to read in fact she started a book club that she calls The Unicorn Book Club. She imagines herself being a super hero called Book Girl.
When her teacher gives an assignment to write a poem, Ruby is excited. Ruby feels bad though because budget cuts have prevented the library from ordering new books, or replacing the ones that have been lost or damaged. Because of this they may loose their book club which breaks Ruby's Heart.
Ruby and her friends decide to do something about the libraries lack of funds by setting up a fund raiser so the Library can get new books.
Can fifth graders make a difference and help to save the Library? Find out in The Fantastic Library Rescue and Other Major Plot Twists five out of five stars!
I enjoyed this book! I think it might have been a little better, if I were able to read book 1 first, but I wasn't able to find a copy. I'm not sure if there were supposed to be little illustrations (like in other books with a similar description), but illustrations would have made this book more appealing to the audience. Overall, the storyline was good and is one that children will enjoy.
My 8 year old daughter really enjoyed this book, just as much as the first Ruby Starr book. She was able to relate to the main character and felt the problems she encountered were realistic and fun to imagine. I'd say this is best for ages 7-9 or 10. Excited for more from this series and this author! Thank you to Sourcebooks Jabberwocky for this ARC!
Bibliophiles (you know who you are) will warm up and relate to the second Ruby Starr book. There are a few things going on in Ruby’s life; luckily the story is written well enough to keep things straight and entertaining.
