Domestic Violence Survivor Triumphs Over Fear

When I interviewed, Joe Potosi, I was truly captivated by his story... Joe had to grow up so fast at a young age by caring for his other siblings (including diaper changing), finding work to support the family, protecting the other siblings from domestic violence while... his alcoholic mother and stepfather escaped their responsibilities. His book is a contrast of light and dark and there are so many unpredictable moments, you will be on the edge of your seat. The love that he had for his sister, "Toots" pulled him through the darkest of times. This book is a must read and an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your story in order to help anyone overcome child abuse.

Reading this book helped me understand that abusers are typically mentally ill. Unfortunately you cannot do anything to change that. The sad truth is that most abusers are addicted to alcohol and or drugs. The best you can do is bring strong good people into your life. Get involved in church programs where there are adults who care about the well being of children. Especially right now, with the virus epidemic, kids are stuck at home. Not all kids have a safe and happy home life. Everyone should check-up on your friend. You might save them from harm.

This is definitely a “Must Read”! This heart touching true story of survival and perseverance by Joe Potosi gives a perspective of how we can overcome some horrific things in life, yet still become the person we were meant to be! When The Dust Settled is empowering and gives us a strong sense of understanding mental health as well as not allowing our challenges in life to not define our character. It’s a bit of a tear jerker, yet offers hope as well! I highly recommend this book!! Five stars!! 🌟

This book is very dear to my heart. Joey is my first cousin and I was Grace's middle daughter, Stacy. The memories of when he would stay with us are as clear as if they had happened yesterday. What transpired after he would leave our house stunned me. This book is about a little boy just aching to be loved and accepted, who then grew up and continued to pray for God to help him get through his agonizing situation. So he planted his own garden and decorated his own soul instead of waiting for someone to bring him flowers. He realized that he really could somehow endure and that he was determined that no one would break his spirit. This true story highlights the one thing everyone needs in this life, the value of human connection! Joey did not become my adopted brother way back then but he will always be my brother in my heart, mind and soul! If your looking to be inspired this is a must read!!!!!!
