las boss daughter photo the last boss daughters 3_zps1zlgbirs.jpeg
Annabelle’s father was the former Mob’s boss and has been killed for some years now, his rival marrying his widow. Yes, being a mobster is a hazardous job and you don’t grow old.

Annabelle has been forced to marry one of her stepfather’s soldiers. She is mourning her dad AND her loss of freedom.
She never had an inkling of feelings for her husband. Worse: he is a douche, infuriated by her lack of reactions and loves beating or raping her.
So her life sucks big time! Sorry to be blunt but that’s the truth.

What’s her coping mechanism? She’s either laughing and taunting her husband when he was violent or sleeping for days under her blankets. The first reactions I could respect even if it’s sometimes suicidal. Who wants to laugh and poke the bear? But her being depressed and sleeping for days did not go well with me.

“After the shopping excursion, I’m hit with a depressive state. Another cloudy chunk of time where I don’t leave my bed, but the sun rises and sets for everyone else.”

She’s a hard and sad life, I get it. She is entitled to feel depressed I would probably feel low as well. But it does not mean it’s pleasant to read about her mopping, dragging her cute butt from the bed to the sofa and despairing about her very unfortunate life.
I do tend to love strong heroines so Annabelle’s depressed-self annoyed me.

On her dad’s death birthday Annabelle will trespass a private property guarded with big scary guys to honor her dad’s memory. That’s either pretty stupid or pretty reckless. I did not know if I had to call her dumb or badass. Anyway the guards come running as good watchdogs would. Annabelle’s jokes don’t work on the fine muscled male specimen and she’s soon pinned against a tree trunk by one of the giants. And when I say pinned it’s nearly literal. She’s still clothed but feels everything with many details. I would have been terrorized but not Annabelle. I told you she’s either weird or badass. What does the girl do? She wraps her legs around the guy and enjoys herself very much.

“In response, I smile and wrap my legs around his waist, using my heels to pull him even tighter against me. It’s exhilarating, courting actual danger like this. I’m truly getting turned on, which is so inappropriate, and I wish I could find even a single fuck to give.”

Now that could be THE best tactic! Unsettle your opponent take him by surprise (pun intended). Who knows? Maybe I should try but I really hope I’ll never get chased, threatened, etc. by scary hot guys.

Liam, that’s the hunk’s name is surprised, intrigued and…interested.

What do you think will happen? They’ll knit scarves together? No of course! They’ll meet in secret and Liam will protect her. Only, there is a twist as Liam is not on the same side as her husband and stepfather.

Now, I had some issues with the book.

1)I knew OF Liam but I didn’t know him. What did he like? What was his past, his thoughts...? I knew he was tall, muscled and a hired killer attracted to Annabelle but it was not enough to feel a connection with him.

2) Annabelle unsettled me with her atypical reactions but it was interesting. Someone behaving differently is refreshing. “She laughs when Paul wants to kill her and flirts when an armed stranger has her pinned to a tree. “ She tried to resist and was not complete doormat BUT as I said she was so depressed! She was certainly entitled to feel low but that does not make it fun or enjoyable to read. When she was nearly raped or wanted to climb Liam her spunk was back full force. But once the trigger disappeared she went back to sleep. I would have liked more "consistency" in her behavior and much more of her fire!

3)Not much happened for a long time and it was quite slow. Until the last 20%. The last 20% everything is accelerating. We get hiding in the woods, kidnapping, torture, jail break and revenge. In short: what I expect from a good mafia book.

Now make up your own mind as my maybe personal pet peeves aren’t yours!

And I really do want to thank the author for her trust. I’m amazed every time someone sends his/her book as they don’t know little me and yet they are ready to place their last baby in my greedy hands.

descriptionThis cover is OK. It's a fairly good representation of the heroine. Especially with the apple, she is holding. It is pretty and eye-catching as well. I will say the bottom half is a bit too busy. The typography while interesting is a little too big and too far down throwing off the composition of the whole cover.description

descriptionI really enjoyed this one! That's not to say it didn't have a few issues. I wish we would have gotten more relationship building between Liam and Annabelle. The whole plot needed a bit more fleshing out as well. It was very insta-love for two people that spent a handful of minutes together. I also thought Annabelle was a touch neurotic and Liam seemed to have no problems killing innocent people...overall though it was a pretty decent read.description

Mafia adjacent romance

Pretty good. If you’re looking for hardcore mafia romance this isn’t it. I’d definitely label it mafia adjacent. This is more the star crossed love story of Annabelle & Liam. The hills they have to run up to be together. All in all a good read. A bit suspenseful, it mostly just two lovers who want to be together but the entire world is in their way!

Oh wow, this story really got me hooked! I won the book at a Facebook event so I got an ARC and directly started reading because title, cover and blurb intrigued me instantly.

The last boss' daughter really had it hard in life but she never got broken. Her coping mechanisms may sound crazy but I can SO relate! She's cheeky, she's mouthy, she's strong but on the other hand she's vulnerable, soft and lonely. I totally fell for her and so I waited for her hero to show that he's not enough, as I so often find in stories like this. But the disappointment never came. Yes, he is alpha and bossy and dominant but never without respect, never without putting her first. He's awesome, even though he's a cold blooded killer - how can I feel for someone who murders others for money? But oh my, how I did! The end was hard but absolutely fitting and I can't give anything else but five stars for this thrilling love story.

Wow, what an amazing and explosive book by a new to me author Sam Mariano. I was so blown away by the story. It definitely took me on a wild and crazy ride I tell you. This book had a hard hitting and panty melting story that totally had my emotions rampant. I was struck with bewilderment at how awesome this book was to me. Wow. The Last Boss’ Daughter was simply a book that definitely sated my reading taste buds. It took me on an interesting journey that I did not want to end at all. What a perfect introduction to a new author.

The Last Boss’ Daughter was such a powerful and exciting book that really had my heart beating so fast. It had enough suspense to quicken my blood and cause a rush in me so powerful that it made the hair on my skin stand. This was a mafia with so much dynamic and difference that I was so swept away by the story itself. I love mafia books and The Last Boss’s Daughter is certainly a mafia book that I simply could not help fall in love with. Action. Drama. Addictive. Nail biting. Hard hitting. It was everything I wanted in a mafia book. It had enough of the element that made my head spin and my heart pounding with so much excitement. I found myself so mesmerized with the story. Sam Mariano really wrote such an amazing book. Her writing flowed so well. This book was definitely written so well.

I definitely loved the characters. Liam and Annabelle had an unconventional relationship but they had amazing chemistry. It was different but still mesmerizing. Annabelle was a unique heroine. She was sarcastic, strong and badass. She still had a vulnerable side to her. I loved that there was a balance to her character. It made her very likable. Liam at first I did not like. He was too secretive for my liking. He had certain dark charm about him. However, he grew on me when he started to be protective of Annabelle and risking his life for her.

The Last Boss’ Daughter definitely made want to read more books from Sam Mariano. I will definitely be following her to find out more about her books. She is very good and definitely talented when it comes to her writing.

My Thoughts - Story
It’s been awhile since I have read a dark, erotica, romance novel and I thought it was going to take me a long time to get through it and end up not being able to finish it.

I have been so used to reading adventure stories where something is happening constantly and there is little to no romance…and forget about sex (non-existent).

So, you could see my hesitation about picking up this book to read and review it – just not fair to the author.

But….hey, hey, hey….totally opposite!! I banged this book out in no time and instantly connected with Annabelle and Liam. Yeah, Liam is a bad guy but when it comes to Annabelle, you will find your heart beating faster and your breaths coming quicker…that’s the attraction between these two!

Awesome – wonderful developed characters that the author blew out of the park!

Everyone loves a good Book Boyfriend.
Everyone is going to love Liam.
Heck, *I* love Liam.
But he’s Annabelle’s.
He totally, completely belongs to Annabelle.

And this is one book chick *I wouldn’t fight*. Because I *love* her. Now THAT is rare – I am happy when a heroine doesn’t irritate me, let alone when I actually like her. But this girl – she’s FUNNY – that dry, witty, snarky humor withOUT being a witch to the hero – and withOUT being a witch to the hero, you see she is also tough as nails.
Is she an invincible super-girl? No. No, she is not. She is just a woman in a really, really rotten situation, and she’s coping, and still bucking it for all she’s worth, even when she knows she’s going to lose:

‘My stomach feels tight. Sick. I won’t have an attack in front of him. He’ll see it as weakness, and as far as he’s concerned, I’m motherf*cking Sparta.
In my mind, at least.
I don’t really care what I look like in his.’

And??? What impressed me THE MOST? This is a mafia romance, you know that if you blurbed it, and as a mafia romance, bad things happen, right? And when bad things happen in (bad) movies and (bad) tv shows, the heroine sometimes (always) gets put in danger (or jumps into it – because she’s an idiot) and then she compounds it by doing STUPID things that you are screaming at your tv/kindle/spouse, telling the character “NO DON’T GO-“
and she does
and: “No don’t do-“
And she does.
But get this?? Annabelle ISN’T A STUPID TWIT!!! IT WAS SO REFRESHING.
I freaking clapped. I kid you not. I highlighted and noted all over this copy (which by the way, the author sent to me, and herebe my review) and said things like “BRILLIANT” and “THANK YOU FOR NOT DOING THAT” and “Whoa! Now that… was NOT EXPECTING…”
The dialogue was a treat, there are few things as sad as a fabulous plot but stagnant, unimaginative lines — thou shalt not suffer that pain here.
Back to Liam.

I am so happy when the hero is basically Thor AND saves battered women and when he realizes he’s desperately in love with the h and doesn’t want her to be afraid of him. (No worries, Liam. She’s sooo not.)
I am also happy when the hero has a hot brother.
A hot brother who does not have a woman yet.
And I haven’t been written into a book yet…
Just sayin’.
On strong recommendations I snapped up the Irreparable set to devour next. And it’s official. This author just shot to my “WHEN IS HER NEXT BOOK COMING OUT????!” list.

When I saw the description of this book I was excited. It sounded different and dark and that's what I was wanting at the time. Being my first book by this author, I wasn't 100% sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised.

Annabelle had an indifference about her that I found amazing. She had a heart but with how her life was, she found it easier to not.....engage.

Liam is cold but at the same time he has a...... attraction to Annabelle, this attraction means everything. He was damaged and we find out about his past, but you still feel his coldness except for Annabelle.

Told from duel POVs I was drawn into both minds of the main leads. They were so different but at the same time so messed up. I can't go into to much detail, but this was very intriguing and captivating from start to finish. It had mystery and stream, with dark undertone and villains.

Overall, I was sucked in. I loved both main characters and the story that the author wrote. I can't wait to read more books from her. So if you looking for a darkish read, with a not so good guy as a hero and a heroine that has a backbone then read this book, you won't be let down. 4.5 stars.

4.5 Red Delicious Stars

After reading this book, I realized it could have been written in a couple of different ways. It could have been a very serious story with a despondent heroine who's lost all hope at having a decent life, and an aloof and dangerous man who rescues her. Ms. Mariano did not write that story.

Annabelle, the daughter or a dead mob boss, is stuck in a loveless and arranged marriage. She heads to the old junkyard her father used to own to pick apples and swing in the tree swing. On this occasion, the junkyard is no longer empty and a security man for her father's old associate, Raj, pins her to the tree, asking her all sorts of questions about why she's there. Per Raj, she is told to leave and never come back. But Raj is suspicious and has the strong security guy follow her.

There is an instant attraction between Liam, the security guy, and Annabelle. I don't really care for instalove so this part bugged me a little. But then I thought about it. Annabelle has nothing to look forward to. She's sort-of married to a guy(Paul)she can't stand because she was forced into it. To top it off, he's not even wealthy. You'd think if you marry a mob guy one of the perks would be whiling away your day at the mall or salon. But no, Paul doesn't have two dimes to rub together. So Annabelle lives in her small shack and has to beg Paul for the money for groceries. If I were in that situation I'd probably fall head over heels for anyone that could take me away from my wretched life too.

I really liked that Annabelle, although in a horrible situation, didn't feel sorry for herself. She didn't let Paul get away with anything. She used every opportunity to bring up his major flaws and tried to push him into his girlfriend's arms to keep him away from her. Even when he'd get angry and attack her, she would smile at him and smart-off. She was never able to leave Paul, but now she starts to have hope in the form of a handsome and strong security guy. She can't get her mind off of Liam.

Liam feels the same. The trouble is, he's not a good guy. I won't spoil it, but he has to do some pretty despicable things. The major thing he does at the end might have turned Annabelle away from him for good. But Annabelle has a very different take on it. I expected an HEA, but how we got to that point was very different than I ever would have imagined. After reading a few of Ms. Mariano's stories, I do know to expect the unexpected. In the introduction to the book, Ms. Mariano states that this is a different kind of mob story. I have to agree. Although there is a lot of underlying danger, the overall tone of the book is light-hearted and humorous. Highly recommended.

Good suspense story that I devoured in a day :)

Easy to connect with characters, but I was left wanting more!

Well I’m enjoying the new approach with the last couple of mafia romances I have read and The Last Boss’ Daughter is no exception! I am detecting a swing to where one or more of the main characters are not about embracing ‘the life’, because usually, it’s the other way around. When Annabelle runs into a man (or did he run into her? – eh ‘shrugs’ semantics!) who pins her against a tree, a fire in her ignites. A dangerous situation to be in but she doesn’t flinch, remaining unfazed throughout. There’s every chance she is swapping her farce of a marriage for an unknown and dangerous man.

Trapped into an arranged marriage she wanted no part in, she does what she needs to do to survive. Annabelle allows herself time to reminisce of happier and innocent times when life was much simpler. A time before her father had been murdered and her mother was not with the cruel stepfather she now had acquired. Each year, she returns to the junkyard, helps herself to an apple or two and sits on the swing, connecting with her father.

It is during her visit to the old junkyard that she runs into Liam. A killer who looks like nothing but temptation in her eyes. She doesn’t hold back in letting him know what he is doing to her, and she has something telling her the feeling is mutual. Her candidness takes him aback, and at that point, she begins to get under his skin.

Annabelle is a thorn in Liam’s side as well as her family’s, but for very different reasons. With Liam, she is vibrant and animated. When she is with her husband or family, she is blatantly unhappy, masking it enough to keep them appeased and remain off their radar. They are each other’s forbidden fruit and neither should be associating with the other.

I drew analogies from the story of Adam and Eve, with the plot having a forbidden base. The numerous mention of apples and taking them from a place that was precious to her, holding the memories of a loving father. There was the temptation in picking the apples, dancing with the devil and the knowledge gained from trespassing a sanctuary.

The Last Boss’ Daughter is a quick paced suspenseful story. It had the feel of the beginning of a series, and I hope there’ll be more stories that branch off this book. While this is a complete story, there were aspects of the plot I was eager to see expanded upon, especially Raj and Ryder.

A mafia story with grit and determination!

I’ve read Sam Mariano’s books before so reading this book was a no-brainer, especially when I saw it was a mafia story. Having read the first few pages on Amazon, I couldn’t wait to get started and it was moved quickly to the top of my TBR.

Whilst based around the mafia, and especially a mafia principessa, this story is more one of survival and redemption. Having lost her father, a mafia boss, Annabelle De Luca is now buried in a loveless marriage with a made man who works for her mother’s new husband. Forced to marry him at 18, although she never voiced her vows, Annabelle lives on a diet of avoidance, slavery and grief. Not only did she lose her father when he died, she also lost her mother’s love and since then she has stumbled through life determinedly trying to avoid her husband and to survive each day.

On the anniversary of her father’s death each year, Annabelle visits a place that holds fond memories for her with her father. With a swing and an apple and a few words spoken aloud, Annabelle tries unsuccessfully to understand why her life has turned out as it has. This year, Annabelle finds unusual activity at the yard she visits and after an impromptu meeting with what appears to be security guards, Annabelle comes face to face with one of her father’s old friends. Warned away, after a rather interesting encounter with one of the guards, Liam, a man who momentarily reignited her life force, she heads home, but this time she is not alone.

Liam follows the girl who intrigued him whilst he had her pushed up against a tree. Rather than being scared, or crying, she teased and taunted him and left him somewhat dumbfounded. When she returns home, he realises that all is not right in her life. When he sees her fighting off a man in her bed, he realises that he needs to keep her safe, if albeit from a remote and unnoticed distance. After things turn very ugly for Annabelle one night, Liam steps in and although Annabelle is delighted to see that he hasn’t forgotten her, his intervention starts a chain of events that neither could have foreseen. With Annabelle now watched 24/7, she is even more trapped within her life and ever fearful of her future. Liam is the only man who can save her but with him unable to come near, Annabelle struggles to find a way to escape.

When her step-father realises that she’s been cheating (in his mind) on her husband, she is brought into the family home and kept against her will. Liam is at a loss as to what has happened to Annabelle and knows that he must find a way to rescue her, and even at the detriment of the job his is tasked to do. The story concludes in a battle of epic proportions between the rival mafia bosses and in order to save Annabelle, Liam knows he must also hurt her, possibly beyond reproach. Can Annabelle and Liam ever find their HEA and can Annabelle live with Liam knowing exactly who and what he is?

This was a relatively slow developing story but is still one to be enjoyed and savoured. Annabelle clearly finds herself in a position that she can’t escape from and with depression and loneliness her only companions, she deals with what life throws at her in the only way she knows.

Definitely a story to be enjoyed by mafia book fans and one that is recommended.

I liked Annabelle. And I liked the idea of Liam. But I didn't understand Annabelle and Liam.

Short synopsis - Annabelle has mob relations. Liam is a soldier-type-person for a different organization. Their interests are at odds, but they're kinda into one another.

It wasn't a deep book or a particularly intense one. Not a tough read. I could kinda get why Annabelle was into Liam, but I still don't see what drew him to her. Not that she's awful - just that they had limited interaction. And she was in direct opposition to his interests.

I liked the action. There was some fun drama at the end. However I didn't get the emotional answers that I wanted.

"You don't risk your life to slay dragons for a woman you don't love."

Annabelle was such an entertaining character to read. The Author really gives you a multi-faceted character in her, I laughed at her stubbornness, and spunk. I loved the forbidden, action packed romance that I had no idea what to expect at any given time. I devoured this book in one day, couldn't put it down! A really great mafia story, and I thank the Author for allowing me to voluntarily review.

The Last Boss’ Daughter by Sam Mariano is mafia romance with a difference. It is inspired by the classic story “Snow White”- but this story is a darker, sexier and erotic modernisation and re-imagining, of that old tale. There’s plenty of action, suspense, drama and violence.
I had not read any of Ms. Mariano’s books before, so didn’t really know what to expect from this story- but I am really pleasantly surprised by her work. It isn’t quite as dark and graphic as I was anticipating, but she did seduce me with the suspenseful nature of the story, the witty and scintillating dialogue and her interesting take on an old classic. I voraciously devoured the whole book in less than a day. I didn’t want to put it down; I needed to know what happened.
Annabelle De Luca feels trapped, lonely and alone. Ever since her beloved father died 10 years ago Annabelle has been living a hellish existence and has become a sad shell of her former vibrant self. Her days are monotonous and depressing- she is worn down and suffers from panic attacks…. She is basically living in a nightmare, completely miserable with her life, with her future looking pretty bleak.
Her step father is a cruel, calculating and merciless man- who rigorously and ruthlessly controls of all his ‘business’ dealings, as well as employees. Using his powerful position to instil fear in people to ensure that they conform to his will and tow the line, or suffer the consequences. It seems as though he takes much pleasure in the suffering of others. So when Annabelle refused to bow to his authority, he made it his mission to put her in her place and get her to accept his control. He has systematically destroyed all the hopes and dreams she held for the future- breaking much of her spirit in the process. But still she resists him; even going through the motions of her horrible life there is a small spark of defiance still burning brightly. If only she could find a way to be truly free.
On the 10th anniversary of her father’s death, Annabelle honours his memory by going to ‘their’ spot, an old apple tree- with a swing strung on its branches. The tree happens to be in an old abandoned junk yard and Annabelle has fond memories of eating apples and talking while her father swung her back and forth. Only this year the junk yard is no longer abandoned, there are security personnel guarding the lot. Annabelle is able to sneak in- and begins swinging on her swing. It doesn’t take long for the security guards to discover her there and Annabelle finds herself in a bit of a predicament.
Liam Hunt has been hired to do a job and he’s determined to see it through. Guarding the lot is just one of the many tasks that he is contacted to undertake. Discovering the gorgeous woman swinging in the tree was unexpected, but even more surprising was her reaction to being frisked and detained. He has never experience anything quite so titillating before. He tries to remain professional, but on the inside he is a vortex of emotions. Even after she’s been released and long gone, he can’t help wondering about her and his powerful reaction to her. He should stay away and leave her alone- but he finds himself unable to resist finding out more about her. This obsession with her could very well jeopardise his current assignment, and he’s the last person she should want to be with or trust. But sometimes fate has a funny way of doing things. IS it possible that Liam is the knight in shining armour Annabelle’s been dreaming of- the hero who will slay the monsters for her?
While this book did have some dark-ish qualities as it contained some sensitive material and taboo topics- it was also very witty; with a sarcastic humour that pervades the whole story. Ms. Mariano has done some superb character development for this story. I loved Liam and Annabelle; they were a little different from a lot of cookie cutter characters out there.
The beginning of the story was excellent and had me salivating for what was to come- but it slowed down soon after as the author introduced us to the miserable existence that Annabelle is subjected to, and her somewhat fragile mental state. I felt that this was perhaps dwelt on a little too long and the story stalled a little because of it. The pace does pick up again, but I feel that the lag in the story was really a missed opportunity for the author to take the story up a notch, to a whole new level. We really got a good feel for Annabelle and what makes her tick, but not so much with Liam. I really would have liked to have known more about Liam- his backstory etc.
I will definitely read more of Ms Mariano’s work!

Well done and Thank you Ms, Mariano!

Liam Hunt: a villain in the real world, but a hero to the heroine.

I Floved this book. FLOVED. To prove it, here is a jumbled basket of my thoughts labeled as a review!

We open on our spunky heroine at the junk yard her family used to own, talking to her deceased father. Now, I lost my dad as a teen too, and while he wasn’t a mob boss (weird, I know) I related to Annabelle right away. Having read the whole book now, I have this picture of Annabelle swinging on that swing as an adult woman trapped in a bad situation, lamenting to her father how if he would’ve lived she knew she wouldn’t be there, NO REALISTIC HOPE of ever actually getting out… and then I look at where she ends up, and it's just... perfect. (I think Annabelle’s dad definitely would’ve approved of Liam too.)

Anyhoo, Annabelle was great. I see a couple of people have been caught up in her “weirdness,” and she’s definitely a little weird (in a good way)… but that’s the only reason she’s alive. That’s the only reason she caught Liam’s attention. Liam (who I FLOVE by the way) is, let’s be a honest, a hardened killer. The paragraph about how he doesn’t need justifaction to take a life? Creepy chills! But the kind that cemented my demented love somehow, lol.

Now I want to talk about Annabelle’s anxiety. Annabelle is a character trapped in a godforsaken life, and as such, and also as a human being despite being pretty damn badass, in this reader’s opinion… she has these anxiety attacks and waves of depression. Sounds like kind of a drag to read, right? But it isn’t, because of the way Sam implements these sorts of things. (She did it in Irreparable Damage with Ethan being an everyday guy, showing you he does ordinary, everyday shit that makes him a pretty cool partner without actually making you wade through it in a scene).
I’m going to give an example.

“After the shopping excursion, I’m hit with a depressive state. Another cloudy chunk of time where I don’t leave my bed, but the sun rises and sets for everyone else.
I think it’s the third or fourth day when I feel like getting up.”

That’s it. That’s the whole thing. Literally three sentences, one of them transition. Now she’s going about her life. Not exactly going to make you down in the dumps reading it, yet perfectly illustrates Annabelle’s state. I’ve realized at this point (I’ve read ALL her books now) Sam’s subtlety is one of my favorite things about her writing.

description

Then there’s Liam, and oh my lord, did I love Liam. I wasn’t expecting Liam to follow Ethan, but at this point I don’t really know what to expect of Sam’s heroes except that I’ll love them! He was such a great hero. Alpha and sexy and guarded—and totally respectful of and always looking out for the heroine.
(I love dark romance, but I also loved having Liam be both a villain in the real world, but a hero to the heroine.)

description

I loved Ali and Ryder, too. I won’t say too much about them due to spoilers, but I really liked the way they interacted with Liam. A scene toward the end with Ali snapping a cell phone picture stands out, in particular. ;)

So yeah. This book was awesome. Exciting. I loved the journey, I loved watching Annabelle come back to life, I loved watching Liam connect with his humanity… loved it. They're perfect for each other. Absolutely great story. I hope there are more books for my badass brigade! :)

The Last Boss’ Daughter By Sam Mariano

5 Stars Review

I loved loved loved this book! Sam Mariano’s The Last Boss’ Daughter is a five star. This book had me hooked from the very first chapter. I literally couldn’t put it down, really! This story was captivating, sexy, and gorgeously written.

The story is told in two POV’s, both Annabelle’s and Liam’s. Annabelle is the perfect example of what being stuck in a life you don’t want to live looks like. She is a strong young woman who hasn’t been dealt great cards in life. The reason? Her family is heavily involved with the Mafia. She hasn’t had it easy, with her father’s rival as a stepfather and a husband she was forced to be with she feels alone. Annabelle doesn’t seem to have much to live for.

She so desperately tries to hold on to all her past memories with her father, thinking back to the time when her life wasn’t so terrible. She is truly a prisoner in her own life. She spends most of her time in bed with only the security of her blankets to save her from her awful life.

After meeting Liam on the anniversary of her father’s death her life starts to spiral out of control. Her family no longer trusts her after finding out about him and she is watched 24/7. Annabelle is forced into situations where it seems there is no light at the end of the tunnel. She no longer knows whom to trust. Her only hope is that Liam will be there to save the day.

In my mind, Liam makes the perfect hero. Sam had me crushing on him from the start. He’s definitely not like your average hero as he kills people for a living but he’s the perfect man for Annabelle. Liam is a rough, sexy, and unapologetic man. He’s also dominant and aggressive but treats Annabelle with a lot of respect and kindness.

I loved Liam and Annabelle together; their story had me guessing the whole time with the many surprising events throughout. It was the best mafia story I’ve read to date. This was my very first book by Sam Mariano but it definitely won’t be my last!

"You don't risk your life to slay dragons for a woman you don't love."

I definitely did not expect the outcome of this book! I was pleasantly surprised with the dark-ish twists and turns that took place. The story takes a little bit to get going but once it does, it takes off full speed, action packed till the end.

Annabelle is married to an abusive, cheating, loser of a husband... but not because she wants to be. Being forced by her family into a loveless marriage- she is miserable. But she'll do what she has to do to stay out of her parent's home. I loved being in Annabelle's head! She's funny and witty despite what she puts up with on a daily basis. Her dark, dry humor gets her through her days... that and sleeping.

Liam is a professional contract killer. If he's paid to do it- he does it, no matter who the person is. Good, bad, doesn't matter. When he's hired to take out Annabelle and her family of criminals, things change for him. He's already met Annabelle and gotten too close. He's having second thoughts, maybe he should just call of the job and run. Liam's no quitter though and he can't leave Annabelle.

"There's nothing I want more than to erase all of the bad shit that's ever been done to you. I don't have the power to do that... but I do have the power to erase all the people who did it."

With Annabelle's family on their tails, it's dangerous and risky to keep seeing her but he just can't stay away. Liam is willing to put everything at risk, including his own life to end all of this once and for all. Annabelle will never be safe unless he does this job, he has no choice. Annabelle and Liam give it their all to be able to ride off into the sunset together. Their paradise on the beach is awaiting, but first duty calls and Liam has work to do.

"It's the first night of the rest of our lives, and I don't intend to waste it sleeping."

My rating: 4/5 'Thor' stars

The Last Boss’ Daughter is an amazing standalone mafia romance story by Sam Mariano. I love Mafia romance stories, I have no idea why but they just seem to draw me in and this one was no exception. I knew as soon as I started the first page that I was going to love it and I did! In fact I read it in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down! This is the first book that I have read by this author and I will definitely be looking out for more of her books to read. The story was just so easy to read; it flowed really well and had a storyline that kept my interest the whole way through. There were some good twists that I certainly wasn’t expecting! When I first read the synopsis and it say that the story was inspired by Snow White I was curious as to how – but having read it I couldn’t agree more! It really is a great story that the author should be proud of!
I loved the characters! There was an air of suspicion about them all so it takes a while for you to figure out just who you want to trust in the story! For me this added something extra to the story as I was constantly guessing – I liked that it wasn’t predictable!
I really felt for Annabelle – she is clearly devastated by the loss of her father (as I think anyone would be) and to have to accept the person who did it as family must have been awful. She just wants to be free from the people who have hurt her the most – they just happen to be the people who should be protecting her too.
I knew I was going to like Liam as soon as he was introduced into the story. He isn’t the typical good guy that you are expecting but I kind of liked his darker side! He definitely softened slightly when he met Annabelle! These two certainly fit the description of forbidden lovers!
If you are looking for a story with great characters, a fast paced, explosive storyline with lots of twists then this book is definitely one you should be reading! It certainly deserves the 5 stars I give it!

Title: The Last Boss’s Daughter
Author: Sam Mariano
Stars: 5

If you love books with a strong kick butt heroine, this is the book for you!!  Annabelle De Luca never backs down, and she never shows people her vulnerable side. She would make most bad boys look weak. Her first encounter with Liam Hunt proved she could make a big strong guy second guess how strong a woman can be. Sam Mariano’s mob romance book was filled with intensity, surprises, a swoon worthy hero, forbidden love, and temperature rising passion.

Annabelle De Luca hasn't had it easy since the father she adored & cherished was murdered. She's endured many years of an insufferable life that was forced upon her by the people that were closest to her father. Her determination and sheer will has kept her from getting completely crushed. But will she waver and finally give into step father's demands? Should she trust someone she shouldn't?

Liam Hunt has never had a problem with a job that he has taken on. When it was time to pull the trigger, he never second guessed himself. A job is a job. That is until Annabelle trespasses into a junkyard where he is at, and has to “restrain” her. After meeting her he can't get her out of his mind. Why does he feel the need to make sure she is ok? Can he stay away from something he has no business getting involved with? He is getting paid to do a job, but will she be worth more than the job?

Sam Mariano wrote a fast paced page turner in the The Last Boss’ Daughter. I read it in one day. Her writing kept my kindle in my hands wanting to know what will happen next. I can't wait to see what she writes next.

The Last Boss’ Daughter, by author Sam Mariano, is mafia romance which is just WOW! My first book by this author and it was an outstanding read!! This is a story of a woman who has known loss and grief, who has known disappointment, who has known how to survive despite the consequences she’s been forced into.

Annabelle De Luca was a mafia princess and now is bent on not backing down, she craves her freedom and she will do all that she needs to have it. She has lost her father, a mafia boss, before his time. She is not weak willed and pliable. Annabelle is determined to find a way out and correct the wrongs done.

Liam Hunt lives within the dark, deep inside. He has a job to do, but for once, he is hesitant to continue as he has been. Annabelle has captivated him in a way that he could not have anticipated. He is drawn to her. Is he a hero and protector? Is she worth the risk and the job?

Sam Mariano has provided a thrilling book with mafia boss’, princesses, choices being made for and against wishes, heartache and desires. It is well written with extremely strong characters and sequences. Despite the situations going on within the story, there are comical quirks interwoven where needed to add a bit of humor to specific scenes. This author has written a wonderful story will intense passion and forbidden love along with some twists or surprises that await. I enjoyed this one so much, I may actually read it again sooner than later.

The Last Boss Daughter by Sam Mariano

I really enjoyed this book and finished it in one sitting.

It starts with Annabelle going to her usual place on the anniversary of her father’s death. Normally it is secluded but this time it is guarded. She avoids the guards initially but one (Liam) catches up with her and so their story begins.

Her father was boss of the mob and when he died her mother remarried the new boss. She has a difficult relationship with them both especially as she was forced to marry one of the new boss’ men. Her marriage is unhappy: she either spends time hidden under the covers or trying to get a reaction from her violent husband. He is vile and made my skin crawl every time they were together.

Liam knows he shouldn’t get involved but he finds himself becoming her protector. They shouldn’t have anything to do with each other let alone become attached. With her upbringing and his dark job it should never work.

I found myself rooting for Annabelle and Liam. She’s got a spark that she won’t let die even though her life is really depressing. He is a great hero, dark and brooding, sexy as hell and I spent most of the book hoping that they’d get a happy ending.

There are lots of twists and turns in this book and I hope that we’ll catch up with the characters again.

I give this book 5***** and I’ll definitely be looking out for more books by Sam Mariano.

The last boss daughter was a book that I started one afternoon and was absorbed right away. After reading the description and seeing the cover I was very intrigued about what it was about.
Annabelle is the daughter of a mafia boss that instead of getting involved with so many people she keeps to herself, until she runs into Liam.
Liam, a dark a mysterious person, enters Annabelle life.
The book is fast pace, thrilling, engaging, intriguing. You can not help but get involved with the characters in the book.
The characters are ones that grip you from start to finish. They are so different in their point of views during the story, that you can not help but get involved in the story.
I have never been a fan of mafia stories, but this was turned my thoughts around. It has suspense and romance. You want to know what is going on and can not stop reading until you do.
Annabelle is a character that you wish you could be in real life. A bad ass that does not care what any one thinks. But a bad ass that is unique and sexy that you suck the readers in and wish that they were as cool as her.
The relationship between Annabelle and Liam is one the is complicated. It is face paced and all over the place. Even when with being so unique, the relationship is so complex and intriguing that you get sucked in and memorized by the story.

***Received ARC in exchange for an honest review***

Need a rescue from your arranged mob marriage? Call Liam Hunt!

Liam is indeed a good man to come rescue you, but I felt like I had to push past a shaky opening in order to fully settle into the book. Once I did, the book was entertaining and slightly dark. I have read darker stories, but this book isn't suppose to be those. It does include violence so do go thinking it's a light and fluffy contemporary either. There isn't a lot of crime in the book and most of the gritter elements happen off the page, but I don't feel like this is a bad thing. There is just enough to keep the book interesting without any overkill.

I enjoyed the bravado Annabelle has through out the story. She might be in a shitty situation that she can't get out of, but she does her best to stand up for herself. Liam comes along and helps to rescue her, but she doesn't just roll over and let him take complete control. I like that in a heroine especially one that was raised by a mob boss.

I think if you like the idea of a mafia romance but have been too scared of lots of violence and crime, this book is for you. It manages to hit some of the good stuff in the category without losing the entertainment factor.

He was sent to kill her, she was the connection to his morality.

This is a fairy tale with an edge. Although it has elements of mafia within the story and the characters are mobster related, I would not warrant this as legitimate mafia, this is more a love story with a mafia backdrop. Do not misunderstand that statement, this book is a reputable read, and the storyline and characters are congenial.

Annabelle has a depressive existence, forced into an arranged marriage to a mob wanna-be loser. The one person in her life that would ensure her safety and happiness has been slain and was replaced by his executioner. She copes and exists as best as she can in her miserable life.

Then one day, a chance meeting and a spontaneous act brings Annabelle a deviant hero. He is not your atypical alpha. He is a cold blooded killer, that has developed a conscience when it comes to Annabelle.

Liam proclaims to eradicate all those who have wronged Annabelle in her life. This is no longer a paid job, this is vengeance.

You don't risk your life to slay dragons for a woman you don't love.

My obsession with all things Mafia is all consuming. I can be a real hard ass regarding my favorite genre. Just an FYI.....

TLBD is a mafia story. This story is not at the end of the mafia spectrum where the story is so realistic, the reader can "see" the story. TLBD is a softer and more romantic take on the genre.

Liam and Annabelle meet under less than desirable circumstances. Annabelle doesn't have a CLUE of her infamy! Liam is there to handle things but ultimately he is the one being handled! Yes take that and let it marinate......

There are a few exciting mafia scenes that may cause your mafia radar to twinge. I think with a bit more research and expanded text, the mafia delivery would have popped more. Right now it's just a romance novel with several scoops of mafia.

This was my first book by this author and it won't be my last. I enjoy my mafia reads and this took me by surprise, not too dark like most mafia reads but it didn't need it. It had a great storyline, with great characters.

Annabelle is Sassy and can definitely stick up for herself. She was an amazing and strong character and I loved some of her one liners.

Liam appears cold and brutish but his attraction to Annabelle, this attraction is undeniable from the start. He is not without his issues, he has a damaged soul but you cannot deny his walls fall down when he is around Annabelle.

Told from duel POVs, This is an intriguing and captivating read from start to finish with a bit of mystery thrown in.

This book was outstanding. The storyline was entertaining, hot and extremely well written. The characters, also entertaining, likable...loveable really. But this is a mafia story so let's not say that too loud...lol. Anabelle was such a multi-faceted character with her stubbornness, and spunk. This was an action packed mafia read that will hold your attention right up to the last word.

Absolutely recommend this book to anyone!

Good book with a sassy heroine and a sexy alpha male .

This book isn't your usual mafia romance book , it's more on the side lines and less about the mafia , more about the characters lives .
It's centres on Annabelle life as she is far from happy , living in a world where she has no say in or any sign of real love . That is until she meets Liam and her world is turned upside down .
This book is sexy , dangerous and brilliantly written .
