I Dropped My Epad, Lessons of a Cracked Tablet is a hilariously imaginative picture story book that reminds kids of the value of play in an "electronics" age. Told in rhyme, this book sparks the imagination. Come along with Steve on a journey through his neighborhood as he rediscover's the joy of playing outside with his friends.
Steve is a young boy who is addicted to his tablet. It goes everywhere with him. Steve even eats breakfast with it. When Steve’s dad asks him to play outside, Steve resists. One day, disaster strikes when Steve drops his tablet and cracks the screen. Dad doesn’t have the money to fix it immediately. Steve is so bored. He doesn’t know what to do. Finally, Steve ventures outside. He visits house after house seeking a playmate, but everyone is inside playing with electronic devices. After trying thirty houses, Steve finds Tray, who also has a broken tablet. They decide to play tennis. Then an amazing thing happens. Other children in the neighborhood see them and decide to come outside to play. When Steve’s tablet is eventually fixed, he goes back to his addiction but realizes something is missing. Steve decides to balance his time by adding outside play. Will other children in the neighborhood follow his lead? This book brings up an important topic for children growing up in the twenty-first century. How can they balance the world of technology with physical activity and social relationships? The illustrations in this book are vivid and well-done. I believe readers in the five through nine age group will particularly love this book, although the message is an important one for a child of any age.
