What made the experience of listening to His Trophy Wife the most enjoyable?

There were times that I wished I were more than a spectator watching the scenes go by. The author was great in creating them so that the reader can feel as if they are included in the world she has created.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Morganna has to be my favorite character. You think she is a compliant wife but then she surprises you. I loved when she gets frustrated with a gentleman that seems to expect (implied) them to do some of his work for him - especially when a mystery is afoot.

Which scene was your favorite?

I don't know that it's one particular scene but my favorite part is when Morganna is creating her miniatures. We hear that people are enamored by what she has done and I find myself wanting to see what makes them so special.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There came a point when the mystery is solved that you have to get angry at the character that put our two main characters through a lot of pain. But then if it weren't for him, they probably wouldn't realize that they belong together.

Any additional comments?

Ms. Slade does a great job at narrating this story but I found it hard to picture her voice as Morganna. It felt more like my aunt was reading me the story than a beautiful sexy woman. She didn't try to change her voice too much in order to sound like Sloan which was a good thing. Her voice was great for Morganna's mother and would have actually loved to hear more of her. The only downside to the story was that I had a hard time picturing these two as a couple. I had no trouble seeing them as totally opposite from the other but to think of them as a couple was just not happening. This may be one of those stories where I need to use Whispersync. In the end, for me, the audio didn't live up to the blurb. I was expecting more.

I voluntarily reviewed an audio version of this book.

What do you do when your father has lost everything and you must sell on his death leaving you and your mother with no income, and no place to live? How about if you are a man who wants the better things in life that only a wife in high standing can give you. The answer to this question is to marry into money or position which both Morganna and Sloan do. One wants to make sure her mother is taken care of the other wants a position that only old money can give him. Do not be taken in by his smooth gentle charm he has a secret if it come out might harm his marriage.

Ms. Slade narration was very good she really put the emotion into the story without going overboard. Some of her character voices are close to others but for the most part you have no trouble knowing who is talking and what they are feeling. There were no background noises if any breaks were taken I could not tell. It is a great clean, fun audio that I really enjoyed. Sloan comes off cool, at times cold and easy going. Not much really gets to him. Whereas Morganna tries her best be do the same she isn’t able to pull it off. The narrator has no trouble deploying these qualities to her listeners. There was no repeating of words. It is a very clean, clear audio that is very enjoyable.

The author puts a few twists in that I didn’t see coming. I did work out who was doing it and the why but at times I was a little unsure. I loved the mother she is cool but sees more than anyone things. I really liked this characters she is sneaky. Morganna I have mixed feeling about I liked her and her wit the way she comes back is great. She isn’t a snob but a very caring person. You know almost from the start that she didn’t marry for herself but her mother and that Sloan more or less blackmailed her into it. She didn’t really grab me and pull me in like some of the characters did. Sloan was a little too cool or cold for me. Nothing seems to get to him not even when things happen to his business he doesn’t get excited or loss his tempter. I just don’t know too many people who wouldn’t show some signs of what they are going through even in private. The fire marshal is very surprising he had me going for a little while. I really liked the plot and the characters just some more than others. I do not think the author really gave a good reason why the person did what they did to the business. Where all that hate came from blew my mind.

It was a fun read that does pull you in at times it is funny and other times heartbreaking. Very clean and easy to follow. I really enjoyed the touch of suspense and the danger the author puts into this story. The romance has a nice buildup very smooth and easy. I did enjoy it and plan to listen to more of this author and narrators work.

A pleasant romance with a little suspense!

His Trophy Wife is a story on a marriage of convenience between Morganna Ashworth and Sloan Montgomery. Through trials and heartaches, Sloan and Morganna try to solve the mystery of who was framing Sloan for the fire at his business while keeping their distance from each other. Yet they both start to develop real feelings for each other. Despite the accusations and potential of jail time for Sloan, they come together to find the real culprit.

His Trophy Wife was a charming well-written story. This author really knows how to create a plot with suspense and romance keep me entertained and keep my interest piqued. The combination of drama, suspense and romance was captivating to where I didn’t want to put the book down. The characters were well developed and engaging. The author did a great job of creating scenes where I felt that I was right there in the story with them. I thought Leigh Michaels did a great job with the ending to the story.

Paula Slade did a great job with the narration. She had a clear and crisp voice that was easy to follow. The narrator did a good job with the distinct differences for each of the characters. Ms. Slade did well with bringing the story to life.

This is the first book that I have read by Leigh Michaels and will certainly not be my last. I recommend His Trophy Wife to anyone that enjoys a light read that will keep you entertained and have you believing that everyone can have their happily ever after.

Quick romance with some stops with a bit of drama, jealousy, deception, and mystery. This was the world of the wealthy, privileged, and new comers were not so easily welcomed. When a way was found to step in to this world Sloan Montgomery took it and would pay for the consequences later. Through the many months of marriage keeping up appearances was the norm. For Morganna Ashworth she was feeling trapped and betrayed. She stepped in to this marriage to make sure her mother kept the lifestyle that she had grew accustom to when her father was alive. Things slowly get better but then deception, sabotage, secrets and more makes an appearance.

Narrator: Paula did a good job allowing me to visualize the characters and the situation they were in. The voice over work was clear and distinguishable between sexes. The audio was clean, clear, and easily kept up with the changes in speed.

A new author for me but I will watch for more of her romances....really enjoyed this novel today.

Sloan married Morgana when her father committed suicide because he was so much in debt. He had only met her a few times but he wanted the Ashworth name which would get him into high society.

Sloan had a furniture building which was burned out...I guess who did it and I was right.

They had a platonic marriage which turned into a real marriage despite all the setbacks that happened in the 7th month of their marriage.

Good ending; great story. I liked the mystery combined with the romance...

As I was reading His Trophy Wife, I kept having the feeling that this book was written well before 2001. With the exception of an occasional mention of a cell phone, this book could have taken place in the 70s or 80s. IT jsut felt kind of less 21st century than it was supposed to be. At any rate, this is a story of a marriage of convenience that turns into something more.

I have to admit that I didn't care for this story. I really didn't see the romance in it at all. Morganna and Sloan had no chemistry. She was basically blackmailed into marrying him and for the most of the book, she hates him. I really didn't see how she fell for him in the end. There was a little mystery that kind of saved the story. But not enough to say I loved it.

I listened to this on Audible. I thought the narration of the audiobook was well done. I liked Paula Slade's voice. It was enough to keep me listening to the end.
