Two years ago, Dr. Wyatt Reid shared an unforgettable goodbye kiss with Mia Fiore. Now a scuba diving accident brings the daredevil documentary filmmaker into his San Francisco ER. Could this be their shot at a real relationship? But Wyatt, haunted by family tragedy, saves lives, and Mia risks hers every day. Can they find the way to a future on both their terms?
Mia is filming a documentary and gets injured during a scuba diving shoot. She's brought to the E.R. where her doctor is none other than Wyatt, a man she's shared a romantic moment with in Africa two years prior.
Mia was a fun and likable character, though I thought she was a little silly while in the hospital always trying to overdo things but that's believable of very active people.
Wyatt many times throughout the story came across as over-controlling, but when I learned more of his background I could understand his behavior a little.
I really liked Helen, Wyatt's mom. She's brought many a smile to my face.
The romance seemed really sudden, but it was still sweet and satisfying.
Overall, I thought this was an enjoyable read and I'll definitely be on the lookout for more by this author.
These main characters…oh my! They were too similar for their own good. At first it might have seemed that they were opposites, however they both struggled with misplaced guilt and both were extremely stubborn!
I liked both of these characters, even though they each made decisions at times that I didn’t agree with. They clearly belonged together, however, so much from the past and ideas about what the future should look like kept them in a limbo that was hard to escape from.
This story had lots and lots of great side characters in it and I enjoyed getting to know about all of them too. I enjoyed this contemporary romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
The Doctor’s Recovery is a sweet and inspiring second chance romance between two people who are both letting past pain drive their current focus – in the opposite direction from each other. So you know there are some intense emotions at play … which, I might add, makes for some delicious romantic tension and one heck of a first-again-kiss.
I really enjoyed getting to know Mia – her documentary film career fascinates me, though I’d never be brave enough to do the same. There are a lot of layers to her character, like Wyatt’s, that are revealed as the story progresses. Both are struggling with deep loss that has shaped their life paths and gives them blinders to what their hearts are really wanting, including each other. This dimension to their stories makes this more than just a ‘missed-chance’ at love because of a misunderstanding – it adds substance to their earlier separation and their potential for a second chance.
Bottom Line: A great cast of intriguing secondary characters provides delightful support (and lighter moments) to the two multilayered protagonists and their relationship. Both Wyatt and Mia are easy to like and easy to cheer for, and Wyatt is swoonily romantic when it counts. I love how the title factors into the book and the subtle ways that it takes on meaning throughout. A heart-tugging and inspiring read!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
The Doctor’s Recovery is the first book I have read by Cari Lynn Webb. I promise you, it will not be the last. This book is so sweet, delightful, heartwarming and, at times, emotional. I thought it was pretty good. Mia and Wyatt were great, relateable characters, with perfect chemistry. I could not wait to find out what would happen next and wound up reading the whole book in one sitting. I recommend The Doctor’s Recovery and give it 4 stars. Such a beautiful story. I cannot wait to read more by this author in the future. I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
An emotional journey towards forgiveness, redemption and happily ever afters! We're quickly drawn in as the story of Mia and Wyatt unfold. They've both experienced loss that they are still struggling with how to live with. Outside influences are at the top of their minds in getting settled into their new normal, but letting go and actually seeing the world around them again aids in both of their healing. The characters are intriguing and keep us wanting to know more. The story line is a bit distracting, yet satisfying in it's own way. Overall, a heart tugging story with a twist that is very enjoyable!
When she walked away from their short time together, Dr. Wyatt Reid never expected to see Mia Fiore again, yet here she is two years later being rushed into his ER. She's bound and determined to rush her recovery after a diving accident and get right back out there making films and risking her life to do it, but life has another plan for her and intends to make her slow down and weigh what she really wants going forward.
Wyatt has issues of his own he's still trying to bury his head in the sand about, but he can't make himself go off and forget he ever saw Mia again. There's a connection there that can't quickly be pushed aside while she's in his space. Will she be able to help him find the peace he so desperately needs?
I love this series. Ms. Webb has great characters throughout each book. When Mia Fiore is brought into the ER and Dr. Wyatt Reid is the attending doctor on call he can’t believe what he’s seeing, and what she said. She almost died. What she wants most is to go back to finish the film. That won’t be happening until her therapy is done. Mia’s life is film making, and now with her accident it’s unsure when she will go back. Her team wants her to get better, as does Wyatt. The only thing is He just can’t be around her. She is a little reckless. They had something in Africa, and then it was over. He has his own issues. The one thing he didn’t expect is Mia becoming friends with his mother who is on the same floor of the hospital as her. Wyatt is ready to go back to Africa, and Mia is ready to go back to film making. It’s the last tribute to her father. She wants to make him proud.
A must read book. I won’t say anything more because so much more is to come. It truly warmed my heart with all the characters in this book. I laughed, and just well just overwhelmed with emotions throughout the book.
Cari Lynn Webb is a new-to-me author and I can honestly say that I will be reading more of her books. The Doctor's Recovery was a well-written, thought provoking, emotion driven story with flawed characters and a realistic feel. Dr. Wyatt Reid had one kiss with Mia Fiore two years ago but the memory lingered and now they are in each other's orbit again but with a lot of issues to overcome for a relationship to work. Wyatt is struggling with guilt over losing his brother and his mother's current health issues where he wants to put her in assisted living so he can go back to Africa and his job. Mia survived a near fatal diving accident trying to finish filming on her father's final documentary and is now struggling with guilt for a broken promise. Mia and Wyatt's relationship is at times contentious and at times fun. This story will have you entertained until the very end.
4.5 Stars. He saves lives and she risks hers - the beginning of a complex relationship. This sweet romance is a delightful read. The main characters are interesting, both with complicated family history. The story stalled slightly for me while Mia was in the hospital, but the introduction of Wyatt’s mother maintained the read as the plot grows with solid emotional scenes from the main characters feeling the pressure of their pasts – Mia over her father – and Wyatt with the death of his brother and his relationship with his mother. The ending is heartwarming and touching. The cast in this series is growing and makes each new book an adventure with old and new characters. Reviewed for Still Moments Magazine.
This was a good story. The main characters had traumatic pasts that affected their current lives. Having spent time worrying about an older parent who tends to fall down, Wyatt's struggles with his mom over her living space are very realistic. There are many interesting background characters. (Maybe too many. I was unable to pick up the book for five days before I read the last 70 pages, and I had forgotten who some of them were. That was probably just me.) I understand this is part of a series, so maybe the background characters each have their own books.
Emotions do not begin to describe the Doctor's Recovery. This book takes you through many different ones. Forgiveness, Love, Hope, and happy endings. Then of course the healing process Wyatt and Mia must both under go during the trials of this book. You will not be let down by picking up this heartwarming read.
Mia is filming a documentary and gets in an scuba diving accident. Wyatt is an Emergency Room doctor who Mia had a romantic moment with in Africa two years prior. This is a heartfelt and well written story. This story had me hooked from the first chapter. I enjoyed reading about these two characters Wyatt and Mia.
Mia has a life-threatening scuba accident and ends up in the ER under the care of Wyatt, with whom she had a great kiss in Africa. But their paths went different ways. Now they’re in the same city, at least for a while. I loved this story and the secondary characters were great and really added to it.
The Doctor's Recovery is one of those books that suck you right in and keeps you there until the end. I really enjoyed Mia and Wyatt's story. I highly recommend this book!
