India had married Brad after a whirlwind romance -- and discovered his deep, dark secret just too late. Result: she'd fled from the groom before the wedding day was over.
Brad refused to accept that their marriage was finished and followed his bride to France -- but there he treated her as just a trophy wife. India had, had enough. Somebody somewhere must know the truth about Brad Carbe -- and soon she would, too.

He lied to his wife, hiding his first marriage from her, which led to almost completely ruining his second marriage. When his bride found out all the lies, instead of setting her straight with all the facts, he doubled down, gaslighting her and enjoying the mental torture he put her through. He made her believe he was still enjoying an affair with his ex-wife and that he only married heroine as some sort of trophy. His ultimate explanation was horrible: His first wife was actually dead, she died of a drug overdose years ago, and the reason he did not tell the heroine was because he wanted to erase the first wife from his life and start a pristine new life with heroine. Wow, dude, COLD! 🥶 I feel sorry for her ending up with such a cruel and dishonest man :(

Someone must've uploaded anotha book's back blurb. No amnesia, no lovey dovey. This 1 shoulda been titled 'A pissing contest'. Overwrought 21 y/o heroine acts like a pimply teen w/ raging hormones. Tacky, condescending 32 y/o hero never lets up in his patronizing attitude from start to finish. If both had applied for bitch-hood, it woulda been a dead tie.
The h and H were both complete and utter plonkers. communication would have solved all the angst but really the H was more in the wrong than the h. She was childish and naïve but he was just plain mean!
2.5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️. This was so bad! OTT melodrama and not a well thought out plot! It must have been an earlier work because I read Vengeful Bride and thought it was pretty good. I should have read reviews first!!
This just got to be a bit too much. At first, it was one of the few books where I could understand the h running out on the H, because she had something pretty frightening dumped on her and it was understandable that she panicked. But then, instead of the H, Brad, being honest about everything, he let his pride get in the way (as well as his reluctance to discuss the past) and couldn't forgive the h, India for running out on him or not having enough trust in him and believing the worst. (They had one of those whirlwind romances/marriages and there wasn't much time to really get to know each other, so that didn't help.)
Both of them said things they shouldn't have and traded insults, which just made things worse, but the big mistake Brad made was in not explaining everything to India as soon as he found her after she ran out, especially since she regretted her impulsiveness and said she believed he was innocent of the accusations. Instead, he got defensive and evasive, she got hurt and wary, and they both kept making things worse by trading insults, not believing in each other enough, and acting childish.
If this were real life, I'd say they should get a quick divorce and forget they ever knew each other.
The best thing about this book was the art history background, which I liked better than the (so-called) love story.

3 1/2 stars for this relatively low angst romance with lots of chemistry and MC interactions. The usual alpha male and spunky heroine who just don't communicate well, at least until the HEA! As always with this author the banter was entertaining. Lovely descriptions of the French countryside.
¡Vaya!
