Berk always plays goalie for his soccer team. But when a new kid, Ryan, moves to town, Berk has to play an unfamiliar position. Ryan may have incredible talent, but hes also wildly unpredictable. Can the team survive the season?
Who is Jake Maddox? Athlete, author, world-traveler–or all three? He has surfed in Hawaii, scuba-dived in Australia, and climbed the mountains of Peru and Alaska. His books range from the most popular team sports to outdoor activities to survival adventures and even to auto racing. His exploits have inspired numerous writers to walk in his footsteps–literally! Each of his stories is stamped with teamwork, fair play, and a strong sense of self-worth and discipline. Always a team-player, Maddox realizes it takes more than one man (or woman) to create a book good enough for a young reader. He hopes the lessons learned on the court, field, or arena and the champion sprinter pace of his books can motivate kids to become better athletes and lifelong readers.
Have you ever had a problem were your good at a position and then somebody that thinks there better than you takes your spot. If so this character Berk is like you.I liked this book because it has real true things that could happen to anybody.
Berk is a normal kid just doing what likes to do which is to play soccer.*** spoiler alert***Berk plays in the state championship. Berk wins the game, then in next season a new kid that likes being goalkeeper gets the spot***. the conflict would be person vs person because berk is trying to beat Ryan for goalkeeper.Berk is competitive person.Ryan is a very good goalie but he not as good as berk. Peter is a boy that likes to play soccer and his favorite position is forward.
I liked this book because the character Berk is very much like me. Berk plays goalie just like me. I liked the way the author tells the story.the author tells the story in a good mood. the author looks like he took his time and wrote the story. I would compare this author to Jeff Kinney because they both have humor and they both are good authors and write good books.
I would rate this book from 1-10 a 10 because it made me feel like i was in the book With Berk. I would recommend this book to people that are fascinated with sports books. Now you know how your like berk, now you know why i liked this book.
Eduardo H Berk has always played soccer. He plays with a team name The Titans. He has always played goalie for his team. He was very happy playing soccer until Ryan came to town. he played goalie too and his better then berk. Berk needs to make the coach think that is better to have Berk then Ryan.
This book was really good. I recommand this book to people who like soccer. I think that this book and be improved by adding more detail to the characters and setting.
Liked the fact that Bryan and Peter decide to teach the new soccer player the fundamentals of this game and the team was able to win the National Soccer Tournament... I would recommend this ebooks sports to other soccer or other sports players... I chose four stars for the above reasons.
This was ok. I am not sure if this will interest any of my students who don't play soccer. I liked the way the characters worked together as a team. I wish the story had more humor or playfulness to it.
Its about this guy who tryed out for the team and he went to state for his team. He played at a goalie. they have won all games then the championship came. Then the shoot out came that game he saved the last one and won the game. They all screamed.
Just found this series, and I think it would be great for reluctant readers or early chapter book readers. The best part I have found is that the players learn that winning isn't everything. Being a good teammate and having a positive attitude is more important. Great lesson for all kids.
Berk played goalkeeper for his team and wanted to keep playing for his team and take them to the final. But a new kid came to school that also played goalkeeper. So when soccer tryouts came they had to go head to head with each other. Then coach ended up choosing the new kid instead of Berk.
The main characters are Berk,Ryan witch is the new kid in school and also Peter Stanton witch is Berks bestfriend. The protagonist of this story is Berk because he is the one facing the problem .The antagonist of this story is Ryan because he is the one that is causing trouble to Berk.Berk talks without any shame he says what he thinks and makes it clear so he doesn't have to repeat him self.He thinks that he can take his team to be state champions. What Berk does affects other people because of his actions he makes people happy and excited.Berk acts well I guess normal he doesn't act any different than the other people.Berk is like 5’3 and has curly hair and looks like he is athletic.
I can relate to this story because when I used to play in a soccer team this new kid came to our team and our coach thought that the new kid was better than me in defense so he put him as defense and me as a midfielder and at first I didn't like it but ended up liking to play midfielder more than I did playing defense. The character I can relate to is Berk because I can kinda feel like Berk felt when they took his position on his soccer team.
I really like this book because soccer is my favorite sport and like the way the author left a lot a details so I can understand it better. My favorite part of this book was when Berk and the new kid get along at the end and start practicing together because I like how they got to an agreement so they can play better with one another. My least favorite part of this book was Berk was just giving details of where he was and where the ball was when the other team was going to shoot a penalty. What the author did well was he gave a lot of details so the reader can understand the book more.If the author would of put more illustrations of what was going on in the story the book would of been better in my opinion.
I would recommend this book to who ever likes books about sports and a story that starts with a good exciting begging and has a problem but it gets resolved at the end.People that like sports and really short but exciting books will really like Soccer Shootout by:James Maddox.
