Demetrian Brides #1

Captive Discipline

Rate this book
Janys has been sent to research the archaic customs on Demeter. Slipping out after curfew, she was attempting to spy on a men's gathering when she was caught and, fearful of causing interplanetary problems, the Ambassador refuses to intervene.

Janys is charged with a serious crime, one that could lead to exile on the prison planet of Kollent. Worse, she has no defense – she is a trained sociologist, well familiar with the laws. But she does have some friends on Demeter, and one of them proposes a solution that's likely to save her life: marriage. Once married to a Demetrian man, Janys will be under his control – and correction. Seeing this as her only hope, she agrees.

But what has she agreed to? The Demetrian society believes in strict, severe corporal punishment. She quickly finds herself subject not only to her husband, but to her mother-in-law, for that is the custom of the land. Then an opportunity to escape presents itself. Dare she take it?

Publisher's Note: This full-length science-fiction romance is intended for adults only. It contains explicit themes and power exchange.

So what to say about this completely mesmerizing book. What I liked: the premise - an Amish like society that eschews technology, where the man is firmly at the head of the household, and corporal discipline used on all. I really liked Martel. He was kind, although a very firm disciplinarian. The punishments were harsh and frequent. *** So beware -- if you do not like harsher DD stories, pass on this one.*** I enjoyed this story. There was growth in some of the characters and I liked the examination of this type of culture. Janys grew on me as she grew as a person. And the ending... Man- I read that at least three times! Talk about heart wrenching!
What I did not like, although I guess it was a part of this culture, was the corporal punishment of children. I prefer not to read about that in books.
However, overall, I really enjoyed this book. 5 stars!!!

Horrible

I'm sorry to rate this so low but I can't bring myself to rate it any higher...I will start off by saying I am still confused as all get out the way the book started off made me feel like I've missed a HUGE part of a series or something it starts off with this chick Jayns or however the crap she spelled her name and she's in some sort of court on a different planet, she is being tried for spying on a private counsel meeting. After she pleads guilty and offers up her body for correction for her crime as it is required by their laws which should be done by her husband but she doesn't have one since she is an alien so to speak, this man out of the blue stands up and offers to marry her she knows the guy, talks like she kind of likes him and he's the one she got the info about the meeting from but I never read any of this so I'm thinking what the heck did I miss?? So anyways long story short she marries him he beats her good and plenty there's is no build up with the characters no real love or chemistry between them. The sex scenes are laughable considering all the hard core beating going on. But spoiler alert if you actually plan on reading this dull book don't read any further........at the end of the book which really isn't a spoiler to begin with i knew the moment she put the words in that diary that scheming little twit ygoate whatever her name is would eventually find and screw her over royally with it and she does! Her husband comes in and forcibly removed her from her job post manhandeling her and takes her to the town center where all the bad punishments are handled and he starts to Cain whip her because her journals somehow where given to her professor who she had been sleeping with while on earth (also more story that wasn't really explained) and that dirt bag releases to the press and the elders get wind of it and actually get a video feed of the interview he did so they automatically find her guilty and she's to have 5 lashes with the cane in public but that's not it! She still has to stand trial after the beat down! So while she's getting beat by the man she "loves" he goes to whack on the lower back or front I don't remember but she screams hey I'm pregnant and he doesn't even believe her so he goes to the doc she talked to and confirms it and finds her journal where she wrote it all down and then he questions if it's even his!! So after she finally some what convinces him to hear her out he has to finish first with the last two whacks then they're off to court! Anyone else pissed yet? Yeah I know I was so mad. So once they get to court they show her the video and sentence her to be exiled which is basically a death sentence. So when she produced the only chance of proving her innocence the little twit denies ever handing over the journals and then when she thinks she's doomed in comes dirt bag professor and he tells his side of the story eventually exposing the girl saying she was the one that give them to him but she said they were from Jayns but she couldn't give them to him directly because she was being watched so now hubbies all oh I'm so sorry you should get on that ship and go back to earth and leave me I'm a horrible man for not believing you! Yeah we know buddy! This last little piece is what blew my lid made me so mad the more i thought about it. The elders the men that do no wrong they decide that the girl that started all this Ygoate she would face the same punishment that Jayns was just about to face for her crime they're all about eye for an eye if you wrong someone you have to go through exactly what they did... But Jayns doesn't want that so they respect her wishes but the girl still has to be caned every other week or so for the next couple months or whatever the hell that language they used but what about the husband?! He beat her for no reason she told him the truth and he didn't get beat for hurting her wrongfully what kind of crap is that?! Her friend was even caned because she knew the chick had been kissed by her professor and she never told her husband about it so when they interrogated her about the journals and she confessed to knowing of the kiss but not the other they beat her for telling the truth?! Yeah sure they can say u should have told you husband but that was none of her business and her husband never asked her directly so she was never lying or covering for her! Bunch of hypocritical B.S.!! I deal with enough if that in my daily life my books are my escape from that so no thank you i can't review this any higher based on what I read because this book was a waste of time!

A DYSTOPIAN PLANET WITH HARSH CORPORAL PUNISHMENT

The concept of this story is a researcher, Janys Livingston, who comes from The Institute on Earth and studies cultures on various alien planets. She is sent to study the Demetrian society, and must abide by their laws and rules, but is caught spying where she is not allowed, breaking curfew, and is to be sentenced to a harsh planet, where survival is dim.

Martel had unwittingly shared private information with her that she is journaling and it will be banned. In the process of her being tried before the Elders, it will be decided that to prevent her from being sent to Kollent, a harsh, unforgiving planet, that Martel will marry her and administer her correction. He will also have to face the Elders and men of the planet and be punished too.

The plot is a sci-fi world that has antiquated ways of dealing with citizens. Husbands correct their wives and children, teachers punish children, and in severe cases, there are public punishments. There is very little crime, and if a person carries out an act that is considered harmful to the community as a whole, they will be sentenced to Kollent. When brought before the Elders, they must state, I so admit and offer my body for correction.

Janys will accept the ruling of the elders, the offer of marriage to Martel, but in her mind, she believes that this is all temporary and that the Professor and the ICJ will rescue her from the planet. Part of her punishment will be she must be instructed by her new mother-in-law on the ways of the people, and submit to her punishments, and then learn that there are many levels of punishment incurred and handled by her husband. She must keep a journal where transgressions are recorded, and then every ten days they are corrected with a marital paddle from the husband.

“You did something wrong, and you have been punished for it. Now it is over, and you need to forgive yourself. Offering yourself for correction is the only price for forgiveness.”

The story is a journey for Janys from the life she has known on Earth to this new planet where they do not have the modern technology she is accustomed to, they believe in corporal punishments, and yet it has it has advantages of very little crime. Sometimes a punishment is instant, sometimes it is carried out every ten days, and there are different levels and severity of punishments.

When Professor Rickman shows up and tries to get Janys to leave, she refuses to go, she has fallen in love with her husband, Martel, and has adapted to her life now. She is making friends, and when her chance to leave is given to her, she chooses to stay. But that may not be the end of things regarding the professor. Will her life be in jeopardy once again, and the threat of being banished to Kollent became a reality? Can she prove her innocence of the crime she is being accused of before it is too late?

The story has very harsh punishments, including public displays of humiliation, caning, paddling, making the women display her spanked bottom while standing in a corner. It even has children being spanked, not as harshly as an adult. This is a dystopian sci-fi world and not Earth. While there are some sex scenes, they are not overly explicit. The various forms of spanking and discipline are very detailed.

I actually finished this in one sitting. I have read books in the "discipline" genre before but with relation to romance - that is not what this is - this is a civilization based on the foundation that you submit to corporal punishment for your sins - accept your punishment and move forward - yes the male species is the dominant in this scenario but the female also has some standing.
There are no prisons - no guards - and logically the crime is next to null - most punishments are carried out by parents, husbands and the council - They use a system of checks and balances - if you dole out a punishment and later find you were incorrect you must atone for your misgivings
It was hard for me to get through certain scenes - I would have been like "Nope, Not on your life!" but at the same time I got why Jayn capitulated to the punishment - it wasn't that long ago wives were disciplined without a second thought by their husbands and corporal punishment was common in schools . I am sure I will get some backlash on this - but still, I found Martel and Jayns story appealing and I found myself entranced in how Jayn saw and processed her new life as well as her feelings for her husband.

Bdsm this is not. If you are looking for some bdsm this is not the book for you but if you are looking for a reason as to why some religious sects physically punish women or the reason why abusive husbands hit their wives this is the book for you. I thought I was getting some bdsm with dubcon elements, silly me for trusting the description.
I kept reading, despite that little voice in my head telling to walk away, but i honestly thought that it’d get better but it didn’t. I really wanted Janys to make a smart choice but alas she did not.
Maybe someone should update the description for this book cause it’s very desiving.

Always a reread!

I want to first address some bad reviews I saw about this book. Those people either don't understand the context of the story or have issues with spanking and physical punishment. Of course the mmc didn't change, he didn't need to. It was Janys that had to come to terms with this new lifestyle. And I'm glad she did because she seems to be someone who could thrive in that environment when given a chance. Also, I like that in this society there is a system for justice if a punishment is too harsh or unwarranted. Overall this book is always something I come back to reread.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book. Janys' friend Shalimerie is trying to save her life by talking a friend of theirs into marrying her. Otherwise the planet she is on will send her to a prison planet where no one survives. Unfortunately, the planet they are on believes in domestic discipline, harsh domestic discipline. Martel agrees to marry Janys, but she must understand that life here includes, in fact, demands discipline. Can she learn to exist in this life? If you like sometimes harsh and inventive discipline, you will like this read.

I read this book when it was published before and I still remember the wonderful entralling and entertaining story. It very well written and draws the reader into Boracavia, where there are disciplinary consequences for all. The characters are well written, described and developed. The storyline is very real. This is a very real story as the characters slowly learn to trust and love eachother. An enjoyable story that you will remember. I highly recommend it.

This is an interesting book with lots of discipline. I like the fictional society that wholeheartedly believes in corporal punishment for everyone. That men offer their bodies for correction as well as women makes this world unusual, but more realistic. Men are still in charge as the community is an old fashioned one. I liked the conflict within Janys and the loving but firm character of Martel. I enjoyed the story.

What an interesting story. The author's writing style is very vivid, I was completely drawn into the story right from the start. I especially liked the world building - due to Miss Williams' vivid descriptions I had no trouble picturing everything in mind. This is a wonderfully long book with suspense, action, great characters, and a lot of discipline.

A great Science Fiction novel. A sociologist, Janys finds herself in hot water again.
She has a problem with respecting the laws of Demeter and after breaking 2 rules
you will have to read to find out what they are she is brought before The Council
and is saved from the planet of Kollent. The alternative comes from a man named
Martel. This book has a lot of twists and turns you must read it.

Not sure how I feel...

I usually like spanking/D/s stories. This one I'm not sure. Although, this has a HEA, the progression of thoughts and feelings Janys goes through are profound. I'll have to do some thinking on this one. However, read the story to make your own opinion. I think you'll find it worthwhile.

Janys either has to marry Mattel, or be exciled where she will surely die. Her marriage life with Mattel is very harsh, as she experiences severe punishments. In the end she does have a choice to stay or leave. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Spanking plus

good story if you like BDSM books , this new author has promise. If she continues to write and improve she has the possibility to become one of the top authors. If you are not into BDSM books do not read.

Intriguing

I understand that not everyone will like this one, but that’s okay. The planet is strict with the citizens, but that’s something I have seen before. The characters are well written and interesting.

Mmm

Little to much punishment. Not enough “play”. Other then that it was good book. With a decent length to it.

Good Start

Overall this is a good start to a series. The writing was well-done, but there were a handful of editing errors (typos). There were times I felt the discipline went a bit too far, but it didn’t make me stop reading. I found the world-building solid and many things were eventually explained. I'll definitely keep my eye out for the sequel.

What the fuck did I just read?

Why the fuck did I finish reading it?

If you want a romance about physical abuse masquerading as proper corrective behavior, have I got the book for you! There's nothing sexy about these spankings and beatings, and besides one "deviant" minor couple who both enjoy corporal punishment, there is no BDSM. The power exchange warned for in the description is not consensual. While I often enjoy dark aspects in romance novels, apparently I've found my limit.

Yes, Janys, you have been brainwashed. I felt completely sick reading the chapter where she rationalized herself into beating three of her students.

How the fuck am I supposed to get to sleep tonight?
