This story is nowhere as freaky as the Publisher's Note makes it sound. At least, I don't think it is. I never got round to finishing it because while I liked James Stone very much, the romance between him and Southern belle, Laura Jean, just wasn't captivating enough. It should have been. Wealthy, hunky black hero and the beautiful white lady who's fallen on hard times.
It was way too slow for me and maybe I never even reached the freaky sex parts because what I did read were rather tame - no public sex (what is that, anyway? Do you get a crowd watching and watching down coins and notes at your feet?); no voyeurism that I can recall and certainly no fisting (ugh) though I did reach the part where Laura Jean asks James to do this and he refuses, saying she should wait (until she's calving, maybe?.
There wasn't any tension in the story early enough to lift it from the doldrums even though there's plenty of opportunity to incorporate it in James and Laura Jean's romance as well as the villain who caused Laura Jean's predicament and is still after her. Maybe it did pick up towards the end and I do come across another review that says so, I'll dig up this story and finish it. And change my rating if necessary.
