In the second book in the Narwhal series by Ben Clanton, Narwhal has decided that he wants to be a superhero. He has the costume, the secret identity, and even the best superhero side-kick – Jelly Jolt. However, he doesn’t know what his superhero power is.

This is just the first of four stories in the wonderful kid’s book filled to the brim with amusing moments and amazing illustrations. In the second story, Narwhal finds a star on a rock and is certain it must have fallen out of the night sky. But how can he get it back?

The third will have you properly laughing-out-loud as Narwhal and Jelly write their own superhero story featuring Super Waffle and his side-kick Strawberry – Well the two do love waffles and what better food is there to save the planet?

The last story features a sad Jelly. Narwhal takes it upon himself to cheer Jelly up but how should he proceed and will he be able to make Jelly happy again?

The whole book is enjoyable from beginning to end and I laughed just as much as I did throughout the first book, ‘Narwhal: Unicorn of the Sea!‘ Sometimes children just need something that they can find amusing, something to give them the giggles and put a smile on their faces and I believe these books will do just that.

They do have wonderful messages for children regarding friendship and using your imagination too. They are quick to read but I can see them being read over and over again.

Narwhal is decided to become a superhero. He already has a name, an outfit, a secret identity, even a sidekick. But he still needs to find out which his superpower is...
Cute, funny and very heartwarming. I would say it is a great introduction to graphic novels for kids 6 years old and up.

I received this copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

In which we; learn how to be a super hero, what Narwhal's super power is and eat waffles!

I was super disappointed the formatting was off on my kindle for this little cutie but I still enjoyed the illustrations and the adorable story.
If I had the little kiddos still I would be purchasing all the Narwhal stories for our kiddo library.
Since my 14 year old is a complete stick in the mud, I will just have to wait for friends to have new little beasties so I can live vicariously through them.
Highly recommended even if you just need a smile and are craving waffles already anyway.

Thanks Netgally for the book approval in exchange for an honest review.

Now someone pass the syrup.

I never read the first Narwhal and Jelly book, only karen's review (and subsequent reviews, as well, but hers was the first) so I feel like I've got a solid grasp on these adorable characters.

These two are not unlike Frog and Toad or Heart and Brain or Snail and Worm: Three Stories About Two Friends. There's the impulsive, fun one and the logical, more down-to-earth (or down to ocean bottom, I suppose) one. One worries more and the other is spontaneous. It's a common friendship model, by now, but one that doesn't seem to get old.

We used to call this type of book a Beginning Chapter Book. They're aimed at new readers, those who have just learned to put sentences together and are ready for a bit more but aren't in the full paragraph stage, yet. Humor goes a long way in aiding both reading comprehension and discovery (remember the first time you got a joke in a book that wasn't about jokes?) and helps facilitate reading enjoyment. That's the real reason books like this are important. But I don't care about any of that. I care about the pictures!

Like the panel that slayed me:

Clark Parker Wayne! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Also, Crab, who is so round, so serious, so cute. Don't worry, the claw will grow back. That's what this infographic is all about.

And look!
A shark for karen!

This book is delightful and I am delighted.
Recommended to new readers who enjoy Elephant & Piggie Bundle, who enjoy ocean life, who think wordplay is fun, and/or who like superheroes. Also, recommended to karen.

These narwhal books are just so cute. I love the adorable art, and the stories just make me happy to read. My niece really liked Clanton's first narwhal book, and I think she'll like this one even more.

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thanks, Netgalley!

Super Narwhal is the optimistic cheerleader everyone needs in their life! This book will prove that you don't need superpowers in order to be a superhero. Sometimes the hero you need is a friend who will listen to you and cheer you up when you're blue.

The simple text and illustrations are paired with beautifully subdued colors that allow the reader to focus on the (surprisingly) expressive characters as they react to each other and their environment.

I'd recommend this to fans of Phoebe and Her Unicorn.

Cute story of Narwal deciding to become a superhero, and making a sad Jelly his sidekick. Then, Narwhal struggles to figure out what his superpowers are. After interactions with several other sea dwellers, Jelly hits on it: Narwhal's super power is helping others feel super about themselves.
Totally cute and bold drawings accompany this simple and somewhat silly story with a heartwarming end.

I received an advance reading copy of this book from Penguin Random House Canada in exchange for an honest review.

Narwhal and Jelly are on a mission to channeling their inner superheroes! This is the perfect pick-me-up for anyone looking for something quick, cute, and heartwarming. As our duo figure out what they need to do to become superheroes, I found myself smiling at their conversations. I also fell in love with the illustrations in this book! I'm definitely keeping an eye out for Ben Clanton from now on, his books are a must for anyone needing a dose of adorable!

Almost as good as Elephant & Piggie or Frog & Toad. I'm not sure that the leveled reader audience needs yet another series about a pair of friends, but nonetheless they're lucky to have this one, and so is my inner child.

There is one odd episode in this, in which Narwhal attempts to shoot a star back into the sky using octopus's cannon.... Anyone want to talk about it?

Reread to get ready for the rest of the series. I love that Narwhal's superpower is .

I may be slightly biased because I'm fond of narwhals, but this graphic novel about said narwhal and his jellyfish friend is soo cute! There are three mini stories, plus a few pages of interesting facts about sea creatures, that I can see appealing to anyone from ages 5 to 110. What turns out to be Narwhal's superpower? You have to read to find out!

I really love these books. This is like a comic easy book. The story is really cute with a good moral to the story. In the end Crab was introduced, so in the next book maybe there will be more Crab. I would totally read this for a storytime.

Ahoy there mateys! I be the first to admit that I am not really a graphic novel or comics person. While I like art, I do not have a visual mind at all. For example, me film friends laugh good-naturedly at me all the time when when I watch tv or movies with them because I miss the visual cues of storytelling. This means the tv or movie must be paused so the can explain the plot points I literally didn’t see. I need words! Dialogue! Something! But the First Mate and I had donated books to a local library sale and had time to kill. So of course we chose to remain at the library while time went by. The most avaliable place to sit ended up being next to the juvenile graphic novel section. I had heard good things about this series and saw it so naturally I picked it up. I have to admit that I liked this tale much better than the first book. It actually made this salty, grizzled, grumpy Captain smile. I enjoyed all the silly animals and their silly super powers. The animal facts still made me happy. I acknowledge that the little cartoons are happy despite their simplicity. Arrrr!

This book was, like all the other Narwhal and Jelly books, super fun! If you haven't read this, or any of the other books, you better read them soon! The stories are fun and I really like the "Fun Facts" part.

In the second book of this graphic novel series, Narwhal and Jelly decide to become super heroes! But, you can’t just become a super hero. One needs a super cool outfit, a super cool name, and most importantly, a super cool super power. Narwhal tries to be invisible, but it doesn't work. He tries to be super strong, and even tries to fly (under the sea), but he doesn't have those super powers either. What is something Narwhal has that is pretty super? Find out with the help of his super sidekick, Jelly Jolt! Recommended for beginning readers and kids who enjoy graphic novels.
