This guide provides a touch of information on a wide variety of locations so it would be most helpful if you were new to the area. There are a few restaurants and hotels suggested, but not a list for each town or even area, so just a kind of highlights reel. It’s a good overview introduction, but not that useful for in depth planning of a trip.
This was a useful starting place for my family as we plan a trip to the southwest next spring. Although I would like more detail about specific locations (cities, specific parks, must see things) and specific pointers around ages and ability levels, I will say that the more broad info this book provided works well as a first read on the region.
Amazing color photos. Includes a pull-out map. Lots of info-graphics. maps and lovely photos but not a lot of information. For example the city of St George, the main gateway city to the big National Park's has only one entry.
Quick overview of things to do in the Southwest with superficial and limited treatment of items. Nothing new or unusual that I found. I do like the general Southwest overview at the beginning of the book.
This guide book was helpful in giving me an idea of what was out there and what areas I would like to stop and see. It was not good for the smaller things to see. The what else is there stuff. But it was very good to get me to define the vacation and the time I would spend at each location. Other guide books will take over from there.
DK Eyewitness Southwest USA and National Parks Travel Guide (2019) ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5)
A quick overview of the main sights and NPs in Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, & Utah. Includes small maps, history, and photos. Research for the upcoming trip - there's something about holding a guidebook in my hands that I love.
We checked this book out because we know this series has great photos. For our trip, it turned out to be less useful though than our lonely planet books, because of the lack of detail.
