Thread of Revenge is the first explosive book in the Coldwater Bay Intrigue series. This story gets off to an exciting start and really doesn’t let up the entire time.
I liked the two main characters, Sadie and Gage, and it was intense, watching them try to discover who wanted Sadie dead. These two had a past friendship, but there was definitely attraction blooming between them during this adventure.
I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
"This wasn't a princess story with a knight in shining armor to come to her rescue and guarantee a happy ending."
Elizabeth Goddard once again gives her readers a fine suspense novel, which starts off with a bang and keeps going till the very end. This time the Coast Guard is involved, with designer drugs playing a big part. Don't miss this one!
*My thanks to the publisher for a preview copy of this book. All opinions stated here are entirely my own.
As someone who has been to the Washington coast, I know the water is both beautiful and dangerous. In her newest release, Elizabeth Goddard paints the picture of both. When Sadie Strand wakes up on a sinking boat, she has no memory of how she got there other than investigating her best friend’s death. She is rescued by the Coast Guard, and the man who pulls her out of the water is a friend from her past. Gage Sessions can’t believe Sadie—the girl who stole his heart once—has come into his life again. And though he’s determined to remain friends with her, he will also do whatever it takes to protect her from whoever is after her. Whether on land or sea, Sadie’s life is in danger. Car chases, explosions, drug dealers, and plenty of suspects kept me turning the pages. Yes, the title in itself gives you a hint of what’s going on in the story, but even that unraveled slowly enough to make me wonder exactly what was going on, who is determined to kill to keep their secret. Once again, Goddard gives readers a glimpse into an area of law enforcement (Coast Guard Investigative Services) that you may not have considered. I loved this book!! This is the first book in Elizabeth Goddard's new series, Coldwater Bay Intrigue. The author immediately pulled me in from page one with both her imagery and strong characters. Sadie is a strong woman who will go to any lengths to find out what happened to her best friend, but someone doesn't want the answers to come to light. Gage Sessions works for the Coast Guard Investigative Service and has known Sadie a long time, but hasn't seen her in years. He's been investigating illegal drugs coming into the states and plans to stop it. Suddenly Sadie finds herself a deadly target and Gage vows to protect her which puts both of them in danger and running for their lives. This book is filled with edge of your seat suspense interwoven with a romance. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves suspense. I received this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thread of Revenge ( ColdWater Bay Intrigue #1 ) By: Elizabeth Goddard Thread of Revenge is book one in the new series ColdWater Bay Intrigue series. The author has a great start on this new series. I was grabbed at the start and was hooked. I could not read fast enough to see what was going to happen next. The author did not disappoint. I loves the story and the characters. I enjoyed the two main character, Sadie and Gage. These two have a past history. Someone is after Sadie, why and who can she trust? This is a fast paced action filled suspense that will have you on the edge of your seat. I received a complimentary copy of this book , but was not told that I had to give a positive review.
Her head throbbed and grogginess gripped her. She rocked as if on giant waves. A deep, aching chill touched her feet. The coldness licked at her toes until she slowly realized the sensation felt more than cold—it felt wet. Salty water. Giant, rolling waves.
And with that, this story sparks your imagination with a chilling premise! I always love a good suspense written by this author! I know I will find some edge-of-your-seat adventure, danger around the corner and characters running for their lives. Past attraction between Gage and Sadie adds an extra layer of tension. Drug runners are some of the most dangerous people around and trying to catch them is nearly impossible. That’s the kind of killers Gage is up against. I couldn’t guess who was behind it all and was surprised to learn it at the end, I never saw it coming! She likes throwing curveballs in her stories, which is another reason I love her writing. Definitely a great start to a new series; Coldwater Bay Intrigue which takes place in my neck of the woods…the Pacific Northwest, Washington to be exact!

This book was...not good. Sadie is a marine biologist who returned home after the death of one of her good friends. Upon going to her friends house to check some things, she's attacked, drugged, kidnapped and left on a sinking boat at sea to drown. But she wakes up and a special agent for the Coast Guard (who she happens to know) miracilously spots her and saves her life. Sounds wonderful, right? I thought so too.
While the premise is potentially good, the excution is less so. In the course of less then a week two people go from not seeing each other suince college to falling in love. Sure Gage had a crush on Sadie long ago and is somehow still harboring those feelings now despite "promis[ing] himself he'd never fall in love with someone." Or something to the effect. Yet it takes less then three days for him to want to make out with this girl...lady...whatever. So this happens all while hunting and being hunted for reasons they don't fully understand. Indeed, you're not going to understand it either. Because the author is going to pull it out of left field at the very end in the last couple of chapters. Woot! Wait-what? That's right it's a barely, if-at-all, mentioned left field bad guy!
Not only is the bad guy someone who doesn't even make the radar, but he manages to get the jump on Gage and Sadie multiple times. Which led to some groan worthy comments about sloppy PIT manevuers and Sadie not letting the authorities do their job. For reasons unknown, Gage lets her tag along. Surely it's not because he's crushing on her!!! (yes, yes it is) Multiple drugging attempts on Sadie happen...boat chases...just, completely unplausible events. One after another. And it's all complete with some cliche, groan worthy dialogue and thoughts. I did groan people. A couple of times as I pleaded with the ceiling to make it better as my eyes attempted to roll.
And at the end of everything, guess who proposes....and guess who hates books that only span a week and end in proposals (the answer is me, obviously). Guess who expects enthusiastically. And guess who groaned, yet again...
Side note: Gage should also probably have his stomach checked for ulcers. The amount of times his gut burned with acid is concerning.
In Conclusion
This book had all the potential to be something great. Instead it's a mish mash of not-so-great-writing, cliches, poorly constructed action scenes, two main characters I could care less about because they were both a little annoying, and a weird turn of events .
I know this author is capable of decent books. I've read one. But her current batting average for me is 1 out of 3. I guess it's better luck next time for me....
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Thread of Revenge. This book is the first book in the Coldwater Bay Intrigue Series. I don't know about you but I really enjoy Elizabeth's intrigues. She would be a hard author to beat. This book is well written, action packed, and full of faith. I know you are going to love it.
Marine Biologist Sadie Strand wakes up in boat that is sinking in the middle of a terrible storm. It's dark, freezing, and the waves are swamping the boat. How did she get here? She had been drugged, abducted, and left for dead in the sinking boat. Sadie had returned to Coldwater to investigate the death of her best friend. Sadie couldn't believe her best friend died in a drowning accident. Sadie is rescued by a old friend in the Coast Guard. Can she trust him to help her investigation?
Coast Guard Investigative Service Special Agent Gage Sessions rescues his former secret love interest from drowning in the storm. He is in Cold Water to investigate drug smuggling and the three murder cases. He now must keep Sadie safe and find out how these deaths are connected and who is trying to kill them. Can he keep her safe and find the men who are determined to tie up all the loose ends.
A struggle of two heart broken souls trying to survive these wicked forces. God has a plan for these two, a good plan and not of evil. God has a plan for you too, a plan for a hope and a future. Make Him Lord of your life and watch Him turn your life around.
I enjoy stories written about the Coast Guard and I don't seem to find many of them! I was delighted that this book's main character was a Coast Guard civilian special agent! I didn't even know they HAD civilian special agents! You can learn a lot by reading books :) The book begins by the near drowning of Sadie but a miraculous rescue by said special agent, Gage. I've come to expect this fast-paced type of story and great characters from this author. She does a great job of reeling me in from the first page and keeping me entertained through the whole book as she keeps me guessing!
In this book we find Sadie, a marine biologist researcher, coming home to investigate her best friend's murder after it is determined an accident. She knows it isn't because she wakes up on a boat, about to drown and can tell that someone is trying to murder her too! Gage, who is the Coast Guard special agent, has been assigned a drug running case in the area so he connects with Sadie to investigate her friend's murder in connection with the drugs. The two of them suddenly are in the fight for their lives! Who is behind all of this? Who is trying to kill them??? Read the book to find out! I recommend this!
Wow, what a great page turner! There's a lot of water in this one and it's dangerous from the start! Special Agent Gage Sessions is in the right place at the right time when he defies protocol to save Sadie's life, but the danger has only begun.
"Because I can show you what the other guys missed and you know that," Sadie said. "And I figure that you're a hero, Gage, and there's a killer still out there. That's a ticking time bomb waiting to go off and I'm at the center of that explosion once he learns I survived. Now what are you going to do about it?" I think this quote sums up the book perfectly and it's so well stated!
Loved Sadie's devotion at finding her best friend's killer, her spunk, and her determination! I liked how Gage kept his faith the whole time and risked his life repeatedly to keep Sadie safe. This book will take you on a few boats, escaping a crazed killer on a mountainous road, running through the woods and being shot at...all the while trying to figure out how to catch drug runners and killers who will stop at nothing to keep secrets buried. A great read and a great start to a new series!
I received a complimentary copy from the author, my review is voluntary. All thoughts are my own.
This book was in a box of books sent to me by a friend. I've read other books by this author though I think most were not published under the Love Inspired Suspense series.
I liked that the main characters had a friendship history prior to their meeting again in this book. There's also a set up that Gage has had romantic feelings for Sadie previously--though it didn't sound like she returned those feelings in the past. It does make it more believable to me that the two could fall in love and be engaged in the time frame in which this book takes place--I still think that it's a bit too soon and they probably should let the adrenaline wear off a bit before committing to a lifelong commitment like marriage--but hey, this is fiction so . . . and they're only engaged at the end of the book not married.
Other than that though, I can't really say I enjoyed the plot. Neither of the two main characters "sparked" with me. I never really grew to care enough about them to root for them as a couple. In fact, I grew tired of reading each one's thoughts about loving the other but "how I really shouldn't love" him/her.
I didn't really guess who was behind it until late in the book, and I don't think there were enough clues in the manuscript to let us know.
I was so sad when Elizabeth Goddard's Wilderness, Inc series ended! I really loved all the suspense and action we got in that series! I should have known not to be too sad because she knocks it out of the park again with her new series Coldwater Bay Intrigue.
Thread of Revenge is the first book in Elizabeth Goddard's new Coldwater Bay Intrigue Series. Sadie Strand is a marine biologist who has come home to investigate her best friend Karon's drowning. As she searches for clues with her old friend CGIS agent Gage Sessions who is investigating drug running in the area, she comes close to death many times. Will they be able to figure out who is trying to murder Sadie while fighting their growing feelings towards each other before it's too late? Read to find out! The words grip you and hold you in your chair from the very first sentence. You won't be able to put this one down and you won't want to either!
The rugged Washington coastline sets the stage for this first book in this new series by Elizabeth Goddard. I have read a few of Elizabeth's books before and this one is a great one for suspense lovers.
Sadie Strand finds herself the target of a mysterious killer who will stop at nothing to see her dead. I loved that Sadie was such a strong character both physically and in her career as a marine biologist.
Gage Sessions, a coast guard civilian employee is assigned to protect Sadie. They share a past friendship and the sparks fly between these two while they fight to survive. They battle drug runners and assailants.
Danger lurks around every corner. There is lots of heart pounding non stop action.
I was surprised at the ending and didn't figure out who the real suspected killer was.
I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
This is an exciting, action packed romantic suspense novel!
I thoroughly enjoyed both of the main characters. They are very well developed. I was able to understand what motivated each of them. By the end of the book I did get a little annoyed with all the repetition of why each of them felt they should not love the other one.
The plot was fantastic. There were plenty of twists and turns that kept me turning the pages to try and find out who was behind the murders. I was really pulling for Sadie and Gage to safely solve the mystery and be able to move on with their lives.
I received a free copy of this book from the author. I have chosen to write this review to express my personal opinion.
This is my first read by Elizabeth Goddard. I enjoyed Thread of Revenge. It was an action-packed story with lots of intrigue and surprises. I enjoyed the characters of Sandie and Gage. They had a history together in the past and now they are forced together. Gage has to keep her safe after a close friend is murdered and her life is threatened.
The characters were well developed, although there were parts of the story that felt as though it had slowed down. Lots of tension though between Gage & Sadie. To balance it out, there were plenty of action scenes that kept me on the edge of my seat. Just when I thought I had figured out who was trying to kill Sandie, another twist occurred in the story. I enjoyed the descriptions of the coastal areas and the suspense.
Elizabeth Goddard knows how to keep a reader hooked. Thread of Revenge is a compelling, pulse racing, edge of your seat thriller that twists and turns with each new chapter. Sadie Strand's quest to find evidence proving her best friend had been murdered will not be easy. With the help of Gage Sessions, they set about their mission for justice but with bad guys on their tails will only make these two fight harder for the truth while saving themselves at the same time. Thread of Revenge is fast-paced and edgy. With a diverse cast of characters, detailed prose and a riveting plot, this is one book that shouldn't be missed!
I was actually bored with this story, and I could not get behind the main character. She constantly irked me. I didn't out right loath her or anything but I wasn't feeling her. And I wasn't feeling Gage either. Plus I wasn't engaged in the story. So striking out on all counts. But I finished the book. It wasn't bad, but I did feel a little as though I wasted my time with this one. Which was kind of sad, once the beginning was over with Sadie's rescue everything went downhill from there.
Recommended? Eh I like Goddard's stuff just not this one. But someone else might enjoy it more. Buy/Borrow? Borrow
Sadie Strand a marine biologist is back in her hometown of Coldwater Bay to try to prove that her best friend was murdered and didn't die accidentally. Then she comes to on a sinking boat! What is going on? Will she survive? Who will save her? CGIS investigator Gage Sessoms stumbles onto a sinking boat with the Coast Guard crew and manage to save the woman on the boat when he realizes it's his childhood friend Sadie. He is looking for drug runners and realizes that Sadie is in danger and maybe it's tied into the drug runners, but how? Will they figure out who and what is going on before someone takes them out? Will they survive? Several twists and turns and an exciting end.
Sadie's friend, Karon, is killed. Sadie returns home and tries to find killer. Attempts are made on her life. Gage, now a civilian member of the CGIS, a former friend of Sadie's rescues her several times.
I couldn't decide if I liked Sadie. She acted wisely at times and at other times I wanted to shout at her to listen to others.
I suspected who the bad guy was the second time he was mentioned.
The ending was very abrupt and a little unbelievable. Sadie's and Gage's occupations would not have allowed for an easy relationship, and there was not discussion on how a marriage would be managed.
This romantic suspense novel also involved characters in a third chance romance. Heroine Sadie Strand is a biologist who travels the world trying to improve the environment. Whe returns home after the death of her best friend after the friend's mother convinces her that her daughter was murdered. When Sadie investigates, she is attacked and would have drowned if not for special agent Gage Sessions who rescues her. As they work together to solve the murder and related drug activities, their friendship turns into something more.
Find out what happens when danger continues to follow the main character of this story. Why is this happening to Sadie? What could be the reason for all the uncertainties in her life? Action and suspense fill this fast paced story. Who can she trust? Will she find love along the way? How will the past influence her decisions? Read and enjoy. I received a copy of this book and this is my own honest opinion.
Another can't put down, sit on the edge of your seat, with danger all around book. Where is the danger coming from? Who is trying to kill her? Who can she trust? There is one person who is her protector. No he is not a knight in shining armor, but he is there none the less trying to protect as best as he can. Loved this book and loved the inspirational theme. Can't wait to read the next book in this new series.
I enjoyed this book. Elizabeth Goddard was a new author for me. I read Stormy Haven, the second book in the series and enjoyed it so much that I found and purchased Thread of Revenge, the first book in the Coldwater Bay series. The main characters are strong individuals that deal with many attacks on them and continue to protect each other. The story is interesting and the characters are intriguing. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I was underwhelmed by this book. It was identified as Book 1 in a series, but I felt like I had been dropped in the middle of a series. The heroine was particularly annoying. I think the author was trying to make her strong and independent, but when a law enforcement officer tells you to do or not do something.... Sadie wouldn't. And the hero, Gage, who doesn't tie up the bad guy when you have knocked him out? By the end of the book I no longer cared and I felt they deserved each other.
What a fun read! (If one thinks suspense = fun.) I enjoyed not only this book, but the entire series. The cases in the series were intriguing and I'm a sucker for a good current/former federal agent.
One word of warning if reading the whole series, the "I had 1-2 failed relationships so I should abandon all hope of ever having a relationship or getting married" trope got a little repetitive in books 3-4. But if you can look past that, I'd recommend the series.
Man, I just love these books! I can’t get enough of the fast action and edge of my seat suspense. It was the perfect weekend read that I didn’t want to put down. The sweet romance-while-in-danger was just right and made Gage and Sadie lovable characters. The story line is definitely an eye opener and fits the danger factor well. For sure a bookshelf keeper!

This is a who ‘dun it’ that keeps you guessing to the very end. Strong characters who go through so many crises that they have to be of strong character to survive. Sadie and Gage keep trudging along using their faith and wits to overcome the evil. A great beginning to the series.
This was another amazing book by this author. The hero was a bit more soft hearted than I am used to but his vulnerability made him very likable and real. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
