Paul Allen Pearce is the author of many training books about specific dog breeds. Paul comes from a family of dog lovers that often took in strays. Both of his parents grew up with many animals and passed on intergenerational knowledge to their children.

At an early age Paul and his siblings were taught to care and train their family pets. Raised around all sorts of animals, his curiosity to work with dogs grew. After returning to the U.S. and purchasing his own dog, he realized he didn’t know as much as he could, thus began his journey into full-time dog training and research.

Dog training is his passion. He loves dogs, animals, and the wonders of nature. He says it’s a pleasure to write about his passion and share what he has learned. He hopes that his readers enjoy and learn from what he has learned, thus enabling them to improve their relationships with their dogs.

Traveling through thirty countries and many U.S. states has helped him to broaden his perspective regarding animal behavior and treatment. He asks that people care for all animals, not just their loving dogs.
He spends his free time outdoors with his dogs, exploring nature and expanding his knowledge of life and dog training.

When my family friend asked me to help them with their problem dog, Mimi, I thought it might be handy to do some research into her breed. Mini is a 15 month old Cockapoo. While this book is written for those who are bringing home their new puppy it had heaps of useful tips and information that I was able to use with Mimi.
My friend said that Mimi had mostly jumping and chewing problems. The book suggested to use extinction method (ignoring unwanted behaviours) to stop jumping instead of negative reinforcement. My friend had been using negative reinforcement and it wasn’t working, but she responded really well to ignoring her jumping. Soon she realised no one would pay attention to her if she jumped so she stopped.
I showed the book to my friend to explain why Mimi was chewing shoes and handbags and that she wasn’t being willfully bad, but was actually bored from not being stimulated during the day while they are at work. I used the chew toy training on Mimi and she is beginning to understand that chew toys are for chewing and to leave the expensive handbags alone. The trick with stuffing treats in the toys so that Mimi is rewarded for playing with and chewing the toy more than she is for chewing her Mummy’s wedges.
Overall this was an asset and good to have around. I know a bit about dog training (I have grown up with dogs for as long as I can remember and been a part of their training all my life), but I was still able to learn new things from this book.

I have a new Cockapoo and am trying to train her. She's such a sweetheart but she's a bit stubborn. I stumbled across this book and it's been a big help so far.
The book starts off teaching you the history of Cockapoo and I found that really interesting. I love my Cockapoo but I never thought to look into the history of how they became hybrids.
It also goes into detail for training from the time you get the dog as a puppy, which I found really helpful.
It taught me about bad behaviors to look for and how to avoid them and what the right way to train your dog is. It simplified the training techniques and made it easy for me to follow. Lucy had a hard time training out in public until I realized that I wasn't giving her what she needed. Once I got better treats for outside it really seemed to help and I learned how to better communicate with my dog. It's filled with useful information.
It's important to have verbal commands but you can pick others that fit your life and dog better. With Lucy, we use "leave it" when we want her to leave something alone and it really works for us.
Overall it's a very informative and helpful guide to training your dog. If you have a Cockapoo that needs training, then I would recommend this book.

I recently acquired a new cockapoo and just had no idea how to train him. To top that, I didn’t know anything about this special breed. I just loved how beautiful it is to look at. To better understand Pootie (that’s what I call him!) and train him, I searched all over the internet and was led to this book.
It’s been very helpful. As smart and easy to train as this breed is, some individuals may just be difficult to work with and train. That’s where this book comes in handy. First of all, this guide taught me about my breed (and other breeds too). Stuff like its hair/fur, average size, and behavioural traits. It also taught me how to avoid potential negative behavioural issues right from the start.
In chapter 3, the author teaches about socializing your cockapoo. I followed the easy-to-follow instructions in this chapter and they worked like magic. How a dog reacts to people plays a major role in his training and behaviour so I really appreciated the step-by-step, detailed instructions on teaching your cockapoo to socialize.
Did you know that you can actually teach you cockapoo to let you know when it needs to go out? I’m glad I came across this book. Many thanks to the author.
