This edition includes not only Lhomond’s Epitome Historiae Sacrae, but also a summary of the New Testament by an unknown author.

The annotations are in the style of Lingua Latina per se Illustrata: fully in Latin and with useful illustrations. At the ending of each chapter, exercises are included, which I did not do but which may be useful to a student of Latin. Without these exercises this edition is great as an intermediate Latin reader.

Epitome Historiae Sacrae is one of two Latin textbooks Lhomond wrote in the 18th century. The other is De viris illustribus urbis Romae. Epitome is a summary of the Old Testament--the so called, "sacred history"--and De viris is a summary of Roman history. They appear to have been popular textbooks until Latin pedagogy was abandoned in the 20th century.

I read Epitome last summer after completing a two semester Latin course based on Wheelock. If you are familiar with the Bible, it is a useful early reader. If you are not, this might be a handy and enjoyable way to learn the broad strokes while studying your Latin without having to read the whole Bible itself.

Focus Publishing sells a modern edition in the style of Lingua Latina which I recommend, although I personally do not own it. I am looking forward to reading De viris at some point soon.

Cet Epitome Historiae Sacrae, que l'on peut lire une fois Familia Romana terminé, permet d'appréhender l'Ancien et le Nouveau Testaments avec une certaine facilité. Les mots qui sont difficiles sont glosés par le biais d'images et de notes marginales en latin. Il y a régulièrement des exercices pour réviser et utiliser le vocabulaire vu lors des derniers paragraphes. On notera, sauf erreur de ma part, qu'il n'y a pas de corrigé pour ces exercices parfois difficiles.

Du reste, il est intéressant d'avoir un compendium des histoires les plus importantes des textes sacrés. A lire, et parfois à relire si nécessaire.

Le texte n'est pas grammaticalement difficile, le plus dur est d'acquérir le vocabulaire parfois inhabituel puisqu'essentiellement religieux.

I can highly recommend this book for intermediate level. There are some really nice stories, but I would also recommend the full version in the vulgate and read the same chapters, that are covered in this book.
