Having thoroughly enjoyed the previous series Warriors of Poseidon I'm over the moon to discover this spin off set of books. Atlantis might not be hidden under the sea anymore but there's still plenty of evil out there in the world and this the first book starts quite rightly with a prodigal son returning.
Denal has the unenviable task of recruiting twelve fierce warrior's to form his very own deadly dozen and starts with a mage, a mermaid lover ( don't ask ! ) and a somewhat belligerent returnee in the shape of Flynn. Tasked with saving innocent girls from demons masquerading as bikers Flynn runs headfirst into Eva , a woman with more than a little reason to stay well away from those who call themselves Hells Dark Angels.
Ok this story did seem a little shorter than some books I've read by this author but still captured all the essential prerequisites for a really exciting paranormal romance. There's just enough magic to make it page turning with interesting characters that really made their mark. The central couple are both extremely likeable with off the charts chemistry that never felt forced or rushed. Brave warriors really made their mark but there's sweetness, humour, surprises and of course a very happy ending that makes this reader eager to read more.

January in Atlantis by Alyssa Day

A dozen new warriors of Poseidon are assigned as Denal’s Dozen to protect humanity from demons on Earth. These dozen are new to the warrior responsibilities but step up surprising only themselves in the redemption.

January’s story is about Flynn and the organization of this new band of heroes. Flynn immediately falls for the lovely bartender, Eva. Together, they need to save the kidnapped girls and fight the Dark Angels.

A novella of romance, danger, adventure, and love at first sight.

Boring. Had to fight to keep awake long enough to finish it.
Sorry, but this one is a big 'No' for me.

No real action, just a lot of talking and blah, blah, blah.

Could have been great, but ended up being an epic fail.

On top of numerous words about nothing, there are editing errors and sentence structure problems.
The editing errors are not all that bad.
The sentence structure problems make it difficult to know who is talking at any given time.
They were annoying.

So this goes into the reject pile.

I found the story to be entertaining. It did go straight to the steamy parts of the story. The characters are interesting. The mystery behind the Scott and the biker gang did keep me enthused with the book. Eva and Posodion are a naughty couple indeed.

Review posted on Got Fiction?

You know how sometimes when an author decides to continue on with a series, or to make a cross-over and they then force old characters in just to give us a glimpse of them? This wasn't that. This was a seamless blend and I found it easy to slip back into the Atlantis world Ms. Day has created.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this new series since the past couple novellas and the Cardinal Witches series have been so different from the Warriors of Poseidon. I was really happy to see she recaptured the magic of what I loved about the original series!

The beginning flows and feels organic to the series. I love seeing the familiar faces of Conlan, Alaric, and Denal, and I love how easy it was to slide back into the world, instead of just plopping back in and feeling awkward and unsure.

Flynn is a devil-may-care kind of guy who's been gone from Atlantis since he left home as a teenager. His father was abusive, and he couldn't take it anymore. He left his two younger brothers there, though, and even though his dad never laid a hand on them, he still has that guilt, that intense guilt that he left them there. His brothers are Dare and Liam from the past two novellas, Halloween in Atlantis and Christmas in Atlantis.

From the moment he stepped foot on Atlantis, nothing goes right. Before he knows it, he's in a fight with Denal, one of the King's Seven. There's a scene with a woman named Sunny who I want to know more about, but I know I'll have to wait, since I'm 100% that wasn't random. And before Flynn can blink, he's been drafted into Denal's Dozen, the next group of elite fighters.

But this dozen is only three men so far, and they've been tasked with finding a dark magic practicing motorcycle gang whose leader may be an actual demon. This group is taking teen girls, and they need to stop them. For Flynn, this quickly becomes personal.

Eva is hiding from her ex in a small town. She's tending bar and saving enough money to run again. Her ex was the bad boy her family warned her about, but she didn't listen. And he quickly turned to dark magic. She's been running from him for a long time and she's exhausted. She likes the new town she's in, and she likes volunteering at the animal shelter. She has a hint of magic, or a small gift that allows her to communicate with animals. But at the bar that night, everything changes. Flynn walks in, and moments later, so does her ex's right hand flunky.

She and Flynn have an instant connection, and that's the only reason she's able to trust her instincts enough to let him help her. He swears to protect her, but she knows her ex is too powerful and Flynn won't be able to help her, but maybe he can save all the girls who've been taken. And I would like to say that it was refreshing to see a heroine who is asked to be bait but doesn't want to do it. Seriously. How often is the heroine super brave and noble? I'm not saying that it's bad, but it was nice to see someone who didn't want to be bait.

The ending feels rushed, not because the book is short, but because the pacing changed. It's a novella, and I'm a huge fan of insta-lust and fated mates, so that doesn't bother me. I just felt like the climax hit, and then suddenly the book was over. It was really quick. That being said, I enjoyed the story and I'm really thrilled that the new cross-over series fits right in to the original one.

I really enjoyed the original series by Alyssa Day, The Warrior's of Poseidon. While this book wasn't terrible, I wasn't in love with it. I think because the book was so short and I feel that the hero's character changed in a finger snap. It was instant. I just felt that the whole story could have been developed more, however, I think these are supposed to be short stories because there is one for every month of the year.

3.5 stars. January In Atlantis is the first book in the Poseidon's Warriors series. This can be read as a standalone. Though it is clear from a statement at the end that other books will follow. There is violence and sex so 18+. This is a different take on fighting demons. I love the fact that Atlantis has risen and officially become part of the world again. I look forward to reading more about it's warriors and their battle with the demons on earth.

I was an avid reader of the Atlantis books by Ms. Day when they first came out, and I was excited to be given the opportunity to read these new ones. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, the characters, and the writing in this installment of the series. Ms. Day truly has a way with words. The heat between the characters practically melted the pages, and the characters were very real to me. While this book didn’t go into some of the details that the previous Atlantean books did, this was a great ride back into the wonderful world the author created. I can’t wait for the next books. If you love paranormal romance, you will love this. Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Breath-taking!

So many time last during this story I had to remind myself to breathe. It had humor, regret, suspense and of course a happily ever after. As with all Ms Day's stories the men are swoon worthy and the women stronger than they realise.I am enjoying the continuation of the Atlantis series!

This is Flynn's story and my first in the Atlantis universe created by Alyssa. I was entertained. Bad guys, good guys, strong women, magic and myth. It was fun, romantic and action-packed. You do not have to know anything from the previous books to enjoy this one. Alyssa provides enough detail to ensure the story stands alone. I enjoyed it so much that when I finished it, I immediately started reading the original Atlantis series (Atlantis Rising).

I think I have a new love for Alyssa Day with this series. Posiden is a bit high handed, i think, but then again he is a god. I also feel Eva's story is very relatable and true to life, and I am very happy she gets her happy ending. Not many of those stories do.

After eleven thousand years beneath the seas, the lost continent is lost no more. Atlantis has risen and is now openly taking part in human affairs. But the creatures who formerly hid in the darkness have come out into the open too. Vampires, shapeshifters, the Fae, and more are ow part of daily life on Earth … not always to humanity's benefit.
The fabled group known as Poseidon's Warriors must therefore continue their sworn task of protecting humankind, and a new group of fighters will vow to become the king's elite vanguard: The Twelve. Earth - and Atlantis - may never be the same.
King Conlan of Atlantis has agreed to take part in an international task for looking into some of the rings of paranormal crime going on all over the world. Riley, his queen, has agreed to be on the international board of Save All The Children Now since her social work background will be very helpful there. They were starting in the United States since Riley and her sister Quinn, one of the rebel leaders of North American for over two years, knew it best. They were to meet with the head of Paranormal Operations of the FBI, P-Ops.
The original seven were already in place all over the world except Ven, The King's Vengence, and Denal, who had just been rescued from the hands of the Fae. Conlan and Alaric wanted Denal to lead a new team and work co-operatively with some of the crime fighting organizations. Not a new seven but a team of twelve; "Denal's Dozen".
Flynn had been born and raised in Atlantis and then left, never to return, at least that's what he thought until one January, he decided it was time to go home.
What a wonderfully, creative, adventure filled story with flawed, quirky, honorable, devoted, and insecure characters not only grow into themselves but find love and blossom even further. This is a great way to kick off a full year of Atlantis adventures.

Flynn left Atlantis a long time ago but decided to return just as Denal was out to find warriors for his newly formed team. He's sent out on his first mission and can't understand why he's so attracted to Eva.

Eva is on the run from her biker gang member ex-boyfriend. He's abusive and doesn't care about her but just won't let her go. She's just about to run again when she meets Flynn and he asks for her help in rescuing some girls that the biker gang has kidnapped.

The biker gang is no usual biker gang and that realization along with what is about to become of the kidnapped girls is what sparks Eva into action to help even though she thinks it might cost her, her life. There was quite a bit of action and I thought the whole story line abut the biker gang, the kidnapped girls and Eva was a lot of fun to read.

Eva and Flynn make such a great couple, they were so good together. She's a lot stronger than she thinks she is and he has a big heart.

There's more to Eva than just having a gift with animals and that twist comes towards the end of the book. I felt bad for everything Eva had given up while she was on the run, especially since there was a sweet dog she had become attached to but didn't think she could give Daisy a home. It was so sweet to see them together. I really liked Flynn together and getting to know some of the other people of Atlantis. Some of the secondary characters are great and I look forward to seeing them again.

I've been reading this authors books for a long time and I've always liked them. I love the whole Atlantis theme in these books and the male characters always seem to be so alpha, and if you've read any of them you know what I mean.

Never worry about being disappointed in reading a book by Alyssa Day!! I have read most if not all of her books & ever since I read my first book of hers I was completely hooked & became a fan forever!! This new series involves Atlantis and Poseidon's Warriors, not just the original seven, but 12 new warriors marked by Poseidon in response to Atlantis's rising up from the ocean's depths. You still get to read what's new with King Conlan, Queen Riley & little Prince Aidan, as well as the rest of the original seven Poseidon's Warriors. One of which is Denal who is in charge of the new 12 warriors. January in Atlantis is the story of Flynn & Eva. Long ago Flynn left Atlantis & then returned. After being marked by Poseidon himself, he is sent on a mission, where he meets Eva. Their attraction to each other is instant the second their eyes meet & it's one of those highly combustible & to them, inexplicable attractions!! Both their lives are completely changed from that moment as they both are drawn into a dangerous situation that could mean the difference between life and death, & where surprising revelations are discovered. I loved the whole book! Great story that flowed well & dug it's claws into you & didn't let go! Seriously intense as you literally "felt" the "attraction" between Flynn & Eva!! Not to mention an ending that is........!!!! Well, read the book and find out for yourself!!

It was great to return to the world of Atlantis and it's warriors.  This the first book in the spin off series that started with the Warriors of Poseidon and we have a prodigal son return after years away from his homeland. He has his scars and he doesn't take crap from anyone, so when he is unceremoniously recruited for the new set of elite warriors to fight for Atlantis, he isn't exactly thrilled.  But when he, and the other 2 new recruits, find out what their first mission is, the misfits jump on board to stop some demons from sacrificing a bunch of innocent girls. This takes them to Early, Nevada and into Eva's bar and when Flynn sees Eva he knows there is something down right special about her.  The chemistry between the two is off the charts, which doesn't hurt the situation, so when he finds out she is in danger and that she knows about the gang they are hunting, he sets out to both protect her and use her.  Eva has been running for years from her ex and she is tired of being afraid, so when Flynn tells her he needs her help she sees it as a way to reclaim who she used to be and save a bunch of innocents.  It was a very entertaining story, action-packed, and passionate.  They were sweet together and the moments in the desert were the highlights of their budding romance.  I am glad that Flynn is reunited with his brothers and that Eva is free from her evil ex.  Great and fun story.

And we are off again! Atlantis here we come.

Flynn, the oldest brother of Dare and Liam, is home. And Poseidon has plans for him.
Denal has been appointed leader of a new group of warriors, Danal's Dozen. He just got back from the Fairy lands where he spent ten years. Ten of their years, only a few weeks in Atlantis time, he is hardened and angry thinking his fellow warriors forgot about him. Now he's home his King, who was just a prince when he was lost, tells him he is now to lead this new ragtag group of warriors. He is not happy, but one does not tell Poseidon, by way of Alaric, no.

Flynn gets off the boat after ten years of being gone and trafficking with dragons, only to find out his brothers think he is dead. He literally bumps in Denal and is instantly recruited. Two others show up at the training grounds, a mage and another Altantian, who saved a mermaid (who still don't exist). They are sent to Nevada to rescue twelve young girls from the Hell's Dark Angels. While there Flynn meets Eva and her affinity to animals may be the key to pulling this mission off without a hitch.

Great book, five stars, cannot wait for February and the next in this series. Really I can't wait to Denal gets his HEA, he has been a favorite of mine from the beginning. A must read if you love your heroes able to laugh at them selves and you love laughing out loud through a book.

Having read the Poseidon Warriors, I was eager to visit Atlantis once again. This new addition didn't disappoint. It's a worthwhile adventure.

Atlantis is no longer under water and other paranormal species are living amongst the humans, this first installment is very interesting, indeed.

Flynn returns to Atlantis after having lived on earth for a few years and finds that he has to go through the bureaucracy even though, he is an Atlantean. In the process he becomes one of Denan's Dozen. A group of elite soldiers who protect humans.

Eva is a bartender who is always looking over her shoulder for fear of being found by her ex. The first time that she meets Flynn, she experiences feelings that she hasn't felt before. Flynn is just as struck, but he is on a mission to stop the Hells Dark Angels from their dark objective. There is a brawl where he protects Eva and finds that they have a common enemy. Will they work together to stop evil or will Eva keep running?

I like the premise of this story. It has a bit of everything from the paranormal world. It's also sexy and romantic. The two other members of the team are intriguing, especially Griffin who makes me wonder if he is another version of Alaric who is one of my favourite characters. I would definitely like to read the rest of Denan's Dozen.

Within two hours of returning to Atlantis Flynn finds himself selected as one of Poseidon's Warriors.
Flynn returns home to after having been away for over ten years and within two hours finds himself marked as a Poseidon's Warrior and going on a mission Jake and the mage Griffin two other new made warriors. Their mission is to find and rescue a number of young women who have been kidnapped by a group called Hell's Dark Angels who are mostly humans but whose leaders are Demons and who plan to sacrifice the women to boost their power so they will be heading to Early, Nevada where the Intel thinks them to be. Eva dated the wrong man unaware he was a Dark Angel now she is on the run trying to stay one step ahead of him. Working at a bar getting paid cash in hand to stay off the grid But some Dark Angels have appeared in the bar and she knows it is time to move on. Sh is surprised to see two handsome men enter the bar but as she talks to one a familiar face enters the bar and she quickly ducks out the back and Flynn realizing there is a connection follows her out in the hope of gaining fresh information but also as he feel an unusual need to protect her. A Paranormal romance to relax and enjoy.

"January in Atlantis" by Alyssa Day. Book 1 in the Poseidon's Warriors series.

I liked it. This book is about Flynn, oldest brother to Liam (Halloween in Atlantis) and Dare (Christmas in Atlantis) and Eva, a human woman on the run from her ex-boyfriend.

Flynn is one of Poseidon's newest warriors and his mission is to save a group of young girls who've been kidnapped by the Hell's Dark Angels motorcycle club. Eva is on the run from her ex-boyfriend who is part of the Hell's Dark Angels motorcycle club and he's using dark magic. When Flynn meets Eva, the attraction is so strong between them that the beautiful redhead makes his blood boil. But there's no time for lust right now but the pull between them feels like a lot more than just lust. And Eva may be able to help him save the girls.

Fast paced and exciting. I really enjoyed this book. I liked all the characters. They are interesting and intriguing. I can't wait to read more about Jake and Griffin. I look forward to reading the next one.

What would happen if Atlantis one day rose from the ocean and began integrating with the rest of the world? A world that is full of supernatural creatures including sirens and warlocks and demons? There is a lot of potential in this novel, the characters are interesting enough and there is so much that the author could do with the setting but I feel as though Day should have given us a bit more.

Don't get me wrong, the idea of a few men being forced to work for with the US government to deal with a biker gang is intriguing, throw in that those men are from Atlantis and the bikers are literally demons from hell is a truly amazing concept. I love the simple way that Day gives us the romantic element, it isn't overbearing or antiquated. In truth, I don't know exactly what I was expecting to get out of this but while it was a good read, quick and easy, I think that if Day had tried harder she would've had a bestseller.

Flynn is from Atlantis and left home years ago in order to survive his father's drunken abuse. He leaves behind his younger brothers but finally decides to return. When he does got back he ends up being pushed into a new group of warriors called Denal's Dozen who are dealing with demonic threats to the humans they are sworn to protect. The world has now found out about the warriors and Atlantis has been raised from the ocean.

He meets Eva in a bar where she works as a bartender while hiding from an ex who seems to keep finding her. Turns out he is in with some demons and wants to become one himself. She is attracted to Flynn as he is to her. Flynn and the dozen are looking for some women the demons have taken and plan to sacrifice. Eva ends up being a way to find them because of the Ex connection.

Quick read and pretty good story. All the stories in the warriors series have been good. Try it.

Were the original series ended!

Awesome! This starts off were the original series ended with Atlantis rising up into the modern world. However Poseidon has more tasks for his followers. A group of outcasts and rejects that are now called on to help the human world in it's fight against evil. He had run away, when it became obvious that his father would kill him in a drunken haze. She has been running and hiding from a human mage that has gotten in with a demon led gang. Together they plan to stop the sacrifice of 20 innocent young girls. But first they have to find them. Will they succeed and what price will they pay? The plot isn't quite as good as the original series but it is sure to get better. However the chemistry between the characters, the humour and emotion pull this through. So glad to see more books by this author in the Atlantis series.
