How to make avid readers out of children? Give them an adventure series they can relate to, believe in and picture themselves being part of! J.R> Roper’s THE SILVER SPEAR wraps up the adventure/quest of young Ethan in a world where good versus evil becomes a race to discover and possess a magical spear. In a race against time, Ethan must find and possess the spear in order to save his sister from a painful life of darkness. Will he believe in himself and his abilities? Can he defeat the Dark?

Non-stop action, just enough emotion to make every scene come to life, characters that feel like young adults, talk like young adults and have that uncertainty of young adults. That said, the power of youth and the strength of their hearts powers this fantasy along perfectly. Not too long, no extra fluff to dig through, J.R. Roper has created a wonderful finale to a series that should be on every middlegrade reader’s shelf!

Give the gift of reading and adventure to a child and make sure this series is at the top of the list.

I received a complimentary copy from J.R. Roper! This is my honest and voluntary review.

Too much violence

I know a lot of readers gave this glowing 5-star reviews and it certainly was exciting throughout, but I’m afraid I just can’t accept the amount of death and violence. What sort of message are we sending to young readers when the main good guy falls in love with an assassin? This series is four books of continuous fighting, war, and death.

The Silver Spear is Book 4 from The Morus Chronicles by J.R. Roper. Ethan’s primary concern as The Treasure Hunter is finding his sister Destry who is being held captive by Maura, leader of The Dark. He is so determined to destroy Maura whose dark power and brutish influence over others constantly increases. The only way to accomplish this difficult feat is to find the ancient alvar spear that can destroy the enemies of The Light.

Ethan quest becomes more difficult after learning that one of his friends in his group is a traitor. His distrust of everyone and concern for Destry becomes too much to bear. But with so many obstacles in his path, Ethan wonders if he will succeed before Maura destroys everything and everyone he loves.

J.R. Roper’s sequel, The Silver Spear, book 4, is a thrilling conclusion in The Morus Chronicles series. I often wondered what happened to Destry when I read The Tower Below and couldn’t wait to finish this novel to find out. There is a lot of action and adventures taking place, but it is easy to keep up with the fast paced drama. J.R. Roper kept me in suspense with a well woven story that made me lose track of time.

Maura lacks a heart and probably would kill her shadow, if that was possible. Hellish Mel is just as skilful with her sharp retorts as she is with knives. The battle between The Light and Dark is intricate, exciting and pensive. I enjoyed reading The Silver Spear and the other engaging books in The Morus Chronicles. Preteens and adults will also love the series too.

The Silver Spear is one of those books where I spent most of my time biting my nails. The author has an impressive handle on writing action and suspense with an intensity that completely draws me in. There are so many moments that tugged on my emotions, moments I thought I had it figured out and I was SO wrong, moments that are forever etched in my heart and mind. This was the perfect ending to a remarkable series! I definitely am holding out hope that maybe there will be spin-offs....... like the beginning of the Legion, the alvar, or even the events of the great battle that lead to all the artifacts being separated.
