Poetry. Asian American Studies. As the first Tibetan-American poet to receive any substantial distribution, Dhompa opens U.S. poetry up to new modes of possibility in almost anything she does. "She is a terrific one, on any terms. Dhompa isn't just about bringing some new strands of thread into the American literary tapestry, she's out to reweave the whole thing—Ron Silliman. Be sure to check out Dhompa's previous book, RULES OF THE HOUSE, also available from SPD.

Around the World Reading Challenge: TIBET

Another book of poetry that just really did not resonate for me at all. Sadly, too abstract for my tastes.

Thus far, it's been right next to my bed side-- the coveted spot. I've glanced through, and already excited to pick up on things I loved about the first collection: subtle gestures, delicate meditations, womanhood. Will keep you posted.

I was having a hard time getting into this book until Tsering read a selection from it for my class. After hearing her read her own poems and explaining how reliant they are on breathing techniques from her home in Tibet, I went back through her book and found a new appreciation for her work.
