Hop aboard The Magic School Bus--again! MSB is back in a brand-new Netflix series. This series is part of Scholastic's early chapter book line called Branches, which is aimed at newly independent readers. With easy-to-read text, high-interest content, fast-paced plots, and illustrations on every page, these books will boost reading confidence and stamina. Branches books help readers grow!Seatbelts, everyone! The Magic School Bus is back and ready to ride again. Professor Frizzle's kid sister Fiona might be the new teacher at Walkerville Elementary, but she's got the same old take chances, make mistakes, and get messy! She decides to take the class camping, but come night fall their tent grounds are pitch black. But Arnold's been watching a ton of scary movies and has been having trouble going to sleep at night. What will Arnold do without a night light? The class thinks fast and learns a ton about renewable energy.
Miss 3 really likes the Magic School bus cartoons and has seen them all. This book looks at how electricity is made and renewable energy sources (like solar, wind, and hydroelectric). I thought it was really cool how the kids made their own machines for harnessing energy (like a water wheel and wind turbine). The science went over Miss 3's head but she liked that they were trying to help Arnold (afraid of the dark on their camping trip) and she loved them getting to fly.
Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
This early reader chapter version of Magic School Bus is significantly better than the format of the original stories in my opinion. I recommend purchasing this for readers who are interested in science and adventures. It would also make a great classroom read aloud or book club book. I expect kids will want to read the whole series.
I was surprised that Ms. Frizzle has received such an update.
It also does advertise the Netflix reboot of the animated series on the back.
In this book Ms. Frizzle's class goes camping. Arnold is afraid of the "Smog Monster" and wants lights on at night to keep the monster away. He experiments with different power sources to see which one will keep the generator working.
It was fun learning about the different eco-friendly resources and how they work.
I didn't like this book because the pictures were in black and white. My mom liked the story a lot. I learned about wind power and water power. The wind and the water made the bicycle wheel spin and that made the power generator go on. The rotor spins in the generator. Water and wind energy are pollution free.
