Kate Cosenza is a vampire slayer, marked from birth to rid the world of the undead. Michael Moran is the answer to an ancient prophesy and a man on the edge of turning to darkness himself. Can Kate save him from becoming what she had sworn to kill? And can she stop herself from falling in love with him at the same time? Read Blood Kiss to find out.
Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. To her delight, she found that it was actually possible to get money for having a dirty mind and she has been writing paranormal and Sci-fi erotica steadily ever since.
Kate reminded me of Buffy with the whole being a slayer thing. If you shipped Buffy and Spike like me, you'll probably like this book. Michael, the hero, is bitten by a vampire in Chapter 1. The world-building was good, there were some Biblical references/origin stories, and I especially liked the nuanced explanations of what would hurt a vampire.
I really liked Michael. He was a surgical intern, and he reminded me of Andrew DeLuca from Grey's Anatomy before he became annoying (but better). In the Author's Note, Evangeline says how this is one of the earliest books she ever wrote and that her style was developing. I could definitely see her style in the sex scenes (there's always a guy who loves eating pu**y lol & then one consummation love scene towards the end of the book) and a little bit in the quest/adventure style of the plot. I think one scene got me slightly bothered lol.
I love the first-person, and Kate was a great narrator. Badass and snarky but still likable. I'm not a connoisseur of the sunshine-grumpy trope (tbh the name sounds stupid), but I guess this book would be considered a reverse of that. Kate never had relationships before, only nights of wild sex with strangers, and her walls were high. Michael was the one pursuing her in the relationship.
However, the climax ended a little too abruptly for me. I was thinking to myself there's no way this can be resolved, that's impossible, and then a page or two later it was resolved almost too neatly. Though I did appreciate that all the loose ends were tied up.
I also didn't like how the heroine referred to herself as a stone-cold bitch. She was sarcastic, a little snarky, badass, definitely not warm and fuzzy but not truly cold either.
That being said, I thought the plot and conflict were great. I think this would have been 5 stars for me if there had been another sex scene that wasn't just mentioned and a little bit more of a realization of the romance (i.e. more conversations about their past and lives).
I discovered this book as a sneak peek at the end of one of her Kindred books and the sample was so good that I added it to my tbr. Frankly, I'm surprised more people haven't read this book.
Paranormal romance? I m game! And this book was my favorite... smooth plot, strong heroine, sweet hero, unexpected in every turn, so many surprises, but the ending a little bit too fast almost nothing. But after all, it was sooooo cute so good. I love it!!
This book isn't one of my favorites but a very good read none the less. A very compelling concept. I enjoyed the main characters. I could say it felt a little rushed but any more may have made the story drag. All in all in happy to add this to my collection.
I have read so many of your books and have now started work on your standalone. I have to say I was not disappointed at all. It pulled me in from the beginning, and I could not put it down.
This story was cute and quick. I really didn't feel as though there was much to the story, which is why I gave 3 stars, but the characters are likable.
