Bear Brothers #1

Bearly Legal

Rate this book
Roscoe has finally freed his bear pack from the clutches of their cruel, former pack master, but not without difficulty and much violence. So, when he happens upon a young man, Sawyer, in his woods, Roscoe is suspicious, especially since Sawyer’s scent makes Roscoe want to claim him against every tree in the forest.

But, relocating his pack and starting over wasn’t easy and Roscoe’s rules have to be strict. He needs to be cautious while he figures out what he’s going to do about his inner beast wanting to claim the young--and human--Sawyer as his mate.

Sawyer may be young, but he’s been on his own for a while now and doesn’t react nicely to being told what to do--even if the person ordering him around is insanely sexy and can make his knees weak with a single word. Roscoe makes him feel whole, something he hasn’t felt before, but Roscoe also wants to hide him away.

And, it seems, for a good reason. There is distrust in Roscoe’s pack, and while Roscoe will not shy away from establishing his dominance, he refuses to rule with fear as their last pack master did.

It becomes clear to Roscoe that to have his boy and his pack, Sawyer will need a lesson in obeying his alpha’s commands if he is ever to be his mate. And if there is one thing Roscoe is very sure of, it is that Sawyer will be his.

Bearly Legal is a bear shifter Mpreg romance with May/December elements. If spanking or hot moments in the back seat of a car offend you, this is not the book for you.

I am beginning to think I will be saying this a lot as a read through Ms. Burrelli's catalog of books, but this is now my favorite books I have read of her's thus far. Wow... Rosco and Sawyer's story was so good I could not put it down and finished it like lightning fast. I love the two MC's in this book, the two of them together is so sweet and snuggly, yet scorching hot at the same time. I realize that the order I am reading these in is kinda wonky since I read the Hybrid Shifter trilogy first when it takes place after this series, however even though I am reading them ass backwards I am so totally enjoying them all. Four books down and Ms. Burrelli has easily moved into my top ten m/m romance writers. he world and character building are top-notch and her books a joy to read!

3.5 stars for me. I am a huge Kiki Burrelli fan, I have read everything she's written and really loved it. Unfortunately, this one kinda missed the mark for me, and although I still enjoyed it, I just didn't think it felt as strong as her previous works.

For one, there seemed to be a whole lot of telling the story, rather than showing. And there were things that seemed to be either quickly summarized, or not even explained, it just WAS. With it being the first book in a new series, I would especially appreciate knowing the shifter/mpreg "rules," y'know - what to expect and what's norm in the world building of this series.

I did love the age gap between Roscoe and Sawyer, and I enjoyed the little bit of kink thrown in. I love that we're getting some bear shifters this time! And I really love that we got to see a couple familiar faces in this, too! (that was a nice surprise!) (And it made me wonder what the heck shifters were doing before c-section surgeries were the norm for their mates and babies!)

I definitely look forward to the next book in the series, and will of course continue to read any and everything that this author writes for us! For some great mpreg series, you gotta start with her Wolf's Mate series!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was book 1 in the "Bear Brothers" series. Roscoe has finally freed his bear pack from the clutches of their cruel, former pack master, but not without difficulty and much violence. While out one day he meets his human mate Sawyer. This was a good read Sawyer has been on his own for a long time. I really liked both of these characters and the secondary characters as well. I love reading this authors books. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series

I have absolutely no idea what I just read. There was no world building. There was a lot of “mate” and “mine”, but no relationship growth to speak of (unless I missed it?🤷🏽‍♀️). It was so bad, it’s good? Whatever it was, I’m pretty sure I’ll read the next book in the series.

3.25 roars

Kiki Burrelli has switched from wolves and coyotes to bears with a kinky streak.

I like the lite BDSM touches that she incorporated into the storyline. Sawyer was a great spitfire with a lot of spunk. And Roscoe was a domineering Alpha bear who loved his boy.

The world that Ms. Burrelli created was adjacent to the world of The Wolf's Mate. She wanted it to be modern but still to have the bears be self contained. I'm looking forward to more books in this series.

I was given an ARC for my honest opinion of this book.

I'm fine with insta-love - no issue whatsoever. But I wanted more. I wanted to know more background about how things happened. I felt like I'd walked into the middle of a story and missed the beginning? Like - all the talk of his brothers made me feel like I'd missed something and I should know them from somewhere.

The relationship between the two MCs was generally sweet, but the acceptance of the shifters/male pregnancy thing was all so tame. And the 'bad guy' thing that was happening just felt really fabricated - there just wasn't enough fire.

I don't know, it was a nice enough read - I just wanted more.

I LOVE BEARS

I'm a new fan of this Author. Yes I know KIKI BURRELLI has a lot of Books written. I haven't been able to read any until NOW. I have a lot of catching up to do. Rosco is leading his new pack into a safer more organized life. Being the new pack Alpha has some bumps. Sawyer was a homeless human one day and the next day he was enlighten. These two had to learn a new way of life in a very short time. I really enjoyed this Book. I'm starting Book #2 next!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!

Yummy bears

Roscoe really is a good leader. He just wants to make sure that all his people are taken care of. I like Sawyer too. I think that he will keep Roscoe jumping.

Bearly Legal is the first book in the ‘Bear Brothers’ series. It stars Roscoe, an Alpha Bear shifter, and Sawyer, a young wanderer. This is told in third person from Roscoe and Sawyer’s povs.

Strong Silent Type Meets a Man that Demands Answers

I will be the first to admit I love Bear shifter romances. I was so stoked at the opportunity to read one in exchange for an honest review. I love big shifters and Bear shifters in particular are huge, burly, thickly coated, with their massive jaws, great appetites, and lumbering gaits. Savage fighters, fiercely protective of their young, and make their residence in rural & wooded areas so they are able to shift and become one with their inner animal. Kiki Burrelli takes her turn at Bear shifter lore. I'm not sure if this is a spin off from one of her other series I'll find out when I read them - they eagerly await in my TBR pile.

In this opening book of her new series this author introduces to a "pack" of Bears who have journeyed long & determinedly until they finally found a "peaceful" place to settle & raise their young. Roscoe is the epitome of heavy is the head that wears the crown. Being the "pack" leader is full of responsibilities and sacrifices. The mantle he wears isn't as heavy with the help of his brothers, but in their absence he left alone to perform at the top of his game.

Unfortunately it is during this period that he meets a delicious smelling Human that is destined to cause all types of havoc. There are quite a few rules amongst the Bears that Roscoe is in charge of. Chiefly regarding interacting with Humans and expectations for mating. Those two rules intersect to make for a combustible collision of ideas, mating pulls, and anger. While Roscoe tries to maintain calm by ignoring his huge problem. His problem is not content to be ignored. The feisty young man has a mind of his own that refuses to be dictated to without reasonable explanations. The more he is ignored the more determined he is to face the source of his ire and settle the score.

The young Human never imagined finding what he did during a stroll in the woods. Just how does someone go about explaining shifting and male pregnancy? And if that weren't enough? You throw in a "fiance", an agitating rival, and stoking up anger among disgruntled "pack" members.

The story has humor, mating urges, bear sized appendages, fear, anger, danger, and most of all entertainment. And for mpreg fans, conception, pregnancy, and birth. This was a nice beginning to a sure to be fun and entertaining series featuring Bear shifter Brothers. Buckle yourself in! There were some that caught me totally off guard.

When I was asked if I wanted to review this book, I jumped at the chance. Kiki Burrelli is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I never thought I'd be an mpreg fan but the characters in these stories are so wonderful, I can't help but fall in love with them. She knocked it out of the park with her Wolf's Mate and The Den series and she's done it again. And I love, love, love that she has intertwined those two series with this one. It felt like coming home.

In this one, though, it's obviously bears. We meet Sawyer, a sweet young man who has had it a bit rough. He is homeless and camps in the forest, roaming from place to place. But in this forest, his scent has been caught by alpha bear, Roscoe, and that scent immediately registers….mate. But Sawyer doesn't know about shifters and all he sees and hears is one big ass scary bear. In his attempt to run, he gets hurt and Roscoe has to shift to help him. With a few kisses between them, Roscoe decides he definitely can't live without this snarky smart ass young man and does everything he can to get him to stay in a town nearby until he can figure out what to do with him and how to tell his den. With things on shaky ground, Roscoe does his best to integrate them but is met with some derision. Mainly by one shifter. But the pull of the mates cannot keep these two apart and they struggle to do what they can to be together, and Roscoe has to make sure that it is safely for his human mate. Betrayals and just plain stupidity at times do everything to keep these two apart, but Roscoe is determined to have a pack that is healthy and happy, along with having his mate.

Roscoe is definitely all alpha. And all male, lol. Sometimes I think he's a bit neanderthalish and dense, but when it comes to his mate, he takes that business seriously. And Sawyer, bless his sweet heart, needs a keeper, lol. His mouth shoots off before his brain fires and gets him in trouble. But Roscoe really loves it. With what Sawyer has been through in his short life, Roscoe wants to make sure that he is protected and safe. Especially roaming around a forest where anything could get him. Sawyer just wants the feeling of rightness to finally stay. He finally feels like he belongs. With all the turmoil in Roscoe's pack, as they settle into new life with a new leader, he doesn't quite know sometimes if he does belong. And it takes of lot of duh moments to get these two to get their heads out of their butts and to think with more than their weiners! But when they are together, you know it's meant to be. It's like the stars align and there is no place in the world that either would be.

Just when I think I couldn't possibly have another favorite character, along comes one that just hits me in the gut. And Sawyer is it this time. (I still love Farley more ;) ) With everything he has been through, and all he has to learn in a short amount of time, he is so brave. It is a lot to take on. And when everything is coming at him, he often wants to run, but when he feels his mates arms around him, he knows he's home. Sawyer is just this incredibly sweet sweet young man and I love him.

I really think for all you mpreg fans, this is another awesome one to read. And for those of you not sure about mpreg like I was at first, definitely give this author a chance. Her books will melt your heart, and you will find yourself feeling like you are right there living beside these shifters in these stories. Can't wait to see more in this series! (I'm hoping that there are two certain ones who are next)

Roscoe is an alpha bear who worked hard to free his pack from a cruel pack master. He and his pack have started building a new community and to ensure their safety Roscoe has laid down some strict rules for his pack to follow. After an encounter in the woods, Roscoe wants nothing more than to break his own rules.

Sawyer has been on his own for a long time. He is essentially homeless and living off the land wherever he can make camp. At his last campsite he comes across a huge bear and while running away from it, he falls and hurts himself. Roscoe shifts back to human and cares for the injured Sawyer. Almost immediately Roscoe is overwhelmed by the enticing scent of Sawyer and he is so drawn to him that he can't think straight. Every instinct is telling Roscoe to mate Sawyer and make him his but his human side is fighting it because he knows the possible risk bringing Sawyer into his pack may bring.

Sawyer is human and knows nothing of the shifter world. To make matters worse, there is upheaval in Roscoe's pack and there are bears that do not have full confidence that Roscoe is the right Alpha for them, especially when he breaks one of the rules and befriends humans in a near by town.

There is too much at stake for Roscoe to give into his basic urges to be with Sawyer even though they both know that them being together feels so right.

This is a great start to a new spin off series. I was happy to see a few familiar faces and be introduced to these new ones as well. I am excited to see where this series goes and be reintroduced to more familiar faces

3,5*

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:
A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series
from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King),
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series)
it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year),
it's like a B

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok)
It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the
whole line, dismissed, repeat the class.

1,5 rounded to 2 because I managed to finish it and the start was intriguing. I just... don't know anymore, it's really hard to find a truly good shifter book. In this one I liked the slightly less usual bear shifters (compared to wolves or foxes or whatever) but:

- There was no worldbuilding. None.
- It had plot holes the size of the Marianas trench. For example: the bears are building an entire town in the middle of some random forest (do they own the land?) and have no contact with the outside (where do they get their money? clothes? their car?)
- The age difference is very creepy, particularly on account of how Roscoe treats Sawyer.
- There are consent issues galore (spanking in public, sex without protection, etc.) where Roscoe just does something without talking about it with Sawyer
- Did I stroke out or there's a literal kidnapping on page in front of an entire bar and no one does anything about it?

I don't tend to read MPreg because I find it very difficult to believe (and find it slightly misogynistic) but I am open to trying it when well-written. Here... it is not.

It was ok...

There were some interesting points. The main leads weren't my favorite kind of people but I didn't disliked them. Sawyer was the kind to act first, ask questions later... Which was a bit frustrating. And Roscoe was the silent type that decided to do everything by himself and explained himself only at the end, which caused quite a few problems as you can all imagine.
I did appreciate the fact that the problems didn't last long and that there were a few times halfway through where they actually sat down and talked to each other.

There was a point that was weird about something that happened to Sawyer before, that was mentioned a few times but nothing new happened and I was left a bit confused as to why it was even repeatedly mentioned, maybe is something that will be important in another book?
Also I didn't quite understand the bit about hybrids, I don't know if it's something that's also going to be talked about in another book.

I did like the twist at the end.

POV: dual
Tropes: bear shifter/human, Daddy/boy, mpreg, fated mates.
Spice: medium (detailed scenes, spanking, knotting)
CW: blood, violence, death, kidnapping.

Tropes and Elements:

- Shifter (Bears!)
- Mpreg
- Age gap
- Size difference
- Spanking
- Fated mates

3.5/5, rounded up.

This was good! Kiki Burrelli’s writing had no notable errors, it was engaging, and I was invested in this story. Y’all know I like age gap so I was very happy with this story. The shifter aspects are interesting and although not explained fully, I feel I got a basic handle on things. I enjoyed all the side characters and our couple - sure, there’s not much slow and natural development, but it made just enough sense for me as a fated mates instalove shenanigans. The ending was honestly really cute, and I’m looking forward to the next book.

The only big issue is the amount of telling and not showing. There were plenty of scenes I would’ve liked to be fleshed out with dialogue versus just glossed over, but it wasn’t so much it took away from enjoyment. I just could’ve enjoyed it even more!

This really was not a book for me. I couldn't get into the main relationship at all, it felt like they were mostly together because of the bond and that there wasn't really any romantic development. Bonds are a really fun trope, but I don't like when it feels like it's there instead of the romantic relationship, rather than in addition to it.

I also really didn't like Roscoe, possessiveness and protectiveness are things that I can love in shifter books but in this one it was just way too much. It felt like Sawyer wasn't given a say in anything, and barely given any information with which to make decisions either. He barely got to know anything about shifters, he was made to stay put wherever Roscoe wanted him to be, spanked in public without consent, impregnated without a prior discussion of it... It felt like everything was on Roscoe's terms all the time and Sawyer just had to go along with it. Not the kind of relationship dynamics I want in romance.

This story was a fun read even if it doesn't really stretch the mind any further than asking it to suspend disbelief (it is paranormal after all). I feel the age difference could have been played up a hell of a lot more, for all intents and purposes it might as well have not been there for the most part. My biggest complaint is the mpreg: I don't mind it being there, however I feel if you, a man, had found yourself pregnant (having only discovered a fortnight before that it was even a theoretical possibility) you would probably freak the heck out, and quite possibly have a meltdown. But here it was all to do with fated mates so it's fine? It just felt very neatly swept under the rug and ignored.

The story's about two men who love each other with a HEA, there's contention within the pack to add that little edge of drama, the side characters are all pretty good. Worth giving it a shot if you're looking for something to take up a few hours and you're into shifter romances.

3 stars. Love Kiki but this book was not my favorite by her by far. The side characters were great and the smut was hot but the main characters got on my last nerves. Sawyer was unbearably annoying and insecure and it got old really fast. I wanted him to get some confidence and just shut up for once. Roscoe was daft as hell and never seemed to know what was going on with his mate and how he was feeling. Their chemistry was just so off when they weren't having sex and it didn't really get any better. The ending was cute and I'm interesting in reading the next book because I liked Heath quite a bit and am interested in his story. Other than that, this was just alright. Nothing special but a quick read.

Loved the world-building, but not the Alpha macho BS

This is a paranormal shifter romance with mpreg, the first of this series but it’s the 3rd or 4th interconnected series in a row for this author. I’m not going to lie, mpreg can be pretty jarring the first time you read it but once you accept the premise, it can be an entertaining read! I loved the first series in this world so much that I have a tendency to judge all the rest by it and though there are aspects to this story I liked, this wasn’t my favorite story in this world. The world-building has been fantastic, even this one, but I struggle with the Alpha macho BS.

Phenomenal!!!!

This book is a perfect example of the best of shifter mpreg. From the writing to the characters, it is everything I love about the genre and just perfectly done. Roscoe and Sawyer stepped right out of the book and into my heart. The type of characters and story that we have come to expect from this author - love, devotion, possessiveness, laughter, and absolutely smoking hot scenes.

I love all of the authors work but was completely blown away by this one. I absolutely cannot wait for the next story in this series.
