Kissing Toads

Rate this book
A riotous romp in the bestselling tradition of Jill Mansell and Catherine Alliot.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single woman in possession of an adequate income must be in want of a life. Single is fine for a man, provided he’s got looks and money. A single glamour-guy is a social asset after all. But a single woman — no matter how gorgeous and rich and successful, no matter how content she says she is in her solitary state — is a different matter!

Kissing Toads is the hilarious and heart-warming story of a friendship. On one side is Danny, a has-been garden-show host; on the other is Roo, an eternally single news producer looking for a change. Ditching a life of urban glamour, late nights and celebrity friendships, they sign up for a garden make-over program in deepest, darkest Scotland — draughty castle, craggy lairds and all – and find they’re in for a big surprise…

Very funny, very engaging, Kissing Toads twists and turns in unexpected ways and delights with unusual and down-to-earth characters.

Really enjoyed this book, at first wasn't sure if the author had, had a bit of fun when naming the characters (McGoogle) but an excellent story.

It's not my favorite thing, but it does take me back to my Soap Opera days, ie. Days of our lives. Something outlandish is always happening. The main characters are a little too charactiur to be likable but I appreciate that they have each others backs no matter what. Some of the sex is a bit uncomfortable to read with consent being murky at best.
I don't regret reading it but I'm glad I picked it up from the free little library.

What a random rather fun book. It was completely all over the place but I actually enjoyed it (this is a 3.7 not a 4). A producer, who has broken up with her TV boyfriend teams up with her ditzy C list friend to host a garden show for an aging rock star in Scotland. That ends up being a historical TV complete with ghost whispers, thugs, crazy ex wives. Total chaos. The storyline is out of control. Some of the themes and observations would NOT be accepted in the 2020s (it was written in 2006).

If you're looking for zippy chick lit, look no further. If you're looking for intensity and insight, run like hell.
