The first time I skimmed through this book was at Distant Lands in Pasadena near Colorado Blvd. on Raymond.( Sweet shop, that place.) A pleasant spending of time! ( This library copy won't have much life left, some of the pages could barely hold together.)I would urge anyone who plans to visit or live in Brazil to check this out before the trip. I would buy this happily. Accessible and clear writing. Volker Poelzl did a fine job educating foreigners about Brazil.
This book, like others in the Culture Shock series, is helpful, but limited. It focuses on a particular ex-pat in a business environment. I found it moderately useful.
You may wonder why I choose to read about Brazilian culture being that I lived there for 5 years. I originally bought the book so my husband could learn about the culture. I decided I should read it to see if it was an accurate depiction of Brazil. It definately is. It was a great refresher for me and I also learned some things.
