NOT YET follows an experienced emergency physician, Jeff O'Driscoll, MD FACEP, through a series of shared-death experiences and his efforts to help others through the most harrowing challenges of their lives. NOT YET focuses particularly on Dr. O'Driscoll's twenty-year friendship with Jeff Olsen, a man who had a powerful near-death experience (NDE) at the time of the car accident that took his wife, his son and his leg. While Olsen passed through his NDE, Dr. O'Driscoll saw and communicated with Olsen's deceased wife, Tamara. The first year of Jeff & Jeff's friendship was filled with challenges and powerful lessons. O'Driscoll's candor and vulnerability are compelling. His story is transformative.

It was a surprise to me that I enjoyed and appreciate this book so much, because I don’t particularly enjoy reading spiritual/New Age/self-help books. I could probably count on one hand the number of books I’ve read in a similar vein. 10 years ago, I wouldn’t have started this book, and 5 years ago, I wouldn’t have finished this book, because I was living in a very black-and-white mindset.

O’Driscoll writes about many of his experiences with the spiritual, non-physical beings and elements of the universe. He writes from a Christian perspective, but does a commendable job expressing the universality of the principles he learned and experienced, since they are spiritual in nature rather than religious. He speaks to our infinite nature as divine beings clothed in mortal bodies which limit our experience with the infinite. I am walking away from this book having a better, more hopeful outlook on life, the human experience, myself, the people I interact with.

Powerful Moments

A birthday present to myself, I read until finished in 48 hours. I could not put the book down. It was tearful at times and get it answered deep unresolved questions I had within myself. I awake thinking about the content and sleep knowing I'm comforted for taking the time to read this book.

So Thankful for This Book

This inspiring book is full of spiritual wisdom. It has timeless reminders and fresh ways of looking at the ups and downs of life. It reminds us how to live our spiritual truths as we experience being human. If we see the divinity in all of us, we choose love over anything negative. We lift ourselves up as we care for others. We may not see the blessing when we struggle in the darkness, but faith and belief in our inner wisdom lightens the journey.

Through spiritual mentoring from Dr. Jeff O’Driscoll, I reconnected with my divine self and all the glory that goes with that. I’m so glad I didn’t drag out my suffering by waiting to get support. With kind energy he honored my experiences and reminded me of the power to focus on love and gratitude. I am so thankful for his guidance.

It opened my eyes to some of my own life experiences.

This is a book I will read many times. He has walked the walk and has earned the right to talk the talk. Seeking light and knowledge, while intensely rewarding, can also be physically and emotionally wrenching. It is often a lonely walk of faith. I am grateful that Dr. O’Driscoll was willing to share what he has learned with his readers. I got one will be forever grateful to him for opening up and sharing this with me. Thank you Dr. O’Driscoll.

I was interested in reading this after hearing the car accident victim talk about his near death experience and how he claimed 2 doctor’s saw his wife’s ghost in his ER room. However, this book makes clear that neither doctor physically saw anything. He claims he felt her presence. I’m open to spirituality and that was fine to read, albeit misleading, but as the book goes on, I got a bad vibe from the author. It basically gives his opinion on alot of spiritual stuff. I stopped reading about halfway through when he asked the victim if he “was god.”

Fascinating, thought provoking, inspiring!

Especially for those seeking comfort, understanding and spiritual direction or uplift. Very insightful look into the authors own very unique spiritual experiences. He connects life, death, and our ultimate purpose, all through well told personal stories and lessons learned.

Read it and learn

A wonderfully thought-provoking book. I shared snippets back and forth with a soul-sister as I read. Dr. O’Driscoll truly understands why we are here. I appreciate his courage in sharing his unique experiences. I could not put this book down.

Loved this book

I can never get enough of people who have had the NDE experience and how it changes their lives.
It was refreshing to see a Doctor of modern medicine seek the spiritual side of every person. It was very uplifting!

This is such an interesting book! I felt a little envious actually of this man’s spiritual experiences. I looked him up after hearing him speak recently and I enjoyed reading about the experiences he’s had.

HIGHLIGHTS:
1. If I am willing, I can be an agent of a divine being.
- Believing opens the door to knowledge.
- Exercise greater trust in a divine being who loves more than we can love ourselves and who has a purpose in the difficult experiences we’re invited to pass through.

2. “Does God ever speak to you in sentences?” Don’t ever doubt that. When I’ve trusted in God, I found success and clarity.

3. Every scrap of human experience has value. Every shred of every encounter with every soul teaches me something. Every shred and scrap is an opportunity to interact with others, to hinder their progress, or to move them along the path home. Each interaction writes on my soul and changes me. I’m not very good at predicting who will help or how.

4. If you want the greater blessing, endure it for now.
- Feelings are what craft our souls and make us who we are. Feelings make us one. For that reason, empathy is a good thing.
- We must trust that our challenging experiences come to teach us something and to make us better than we were.
- Suffering can make us bitter, or it can bring us empathy.

5. Spirits are so grateful for our help.
- Faith in the Lord includes faith in his timing.

6. There is something much more divine in all of us than we generally appreciate. When we serve our fellow beings, we serve God.
- It is not the magnitude of my gift, it was the act of giving. It was about having a heightened consciousness of the need and doing something, no matter how small.
- We each contribute in different ways. Some offerings are visible: others equally important, go unnoticed.

7. When you meditate, contemplate, pray or spend time in self-reflection, ask “what can I do today to serve someone else?”
- Learning to listen is learning to live, but it’s hard to listen when someone is talking to you. It’s even harder when you’re the one talking.
- Ask two questions: “who are you?” and “what would you have me do?” I found those questions useful when I’ve encountered spiritual feelings.

8. FORGIVENESS & REPENTANCE:
- Forgiveness may come in advance of repentance.
- Healing the soul includes healing both spirit and body.
- Failing to forgive impedes my progress.
- Repentance is a gift to help others progress.
- Focusing on forgiveness will elevate my sights and my service.

9. Empathy is a painful thing at times. It breaks your heart when you least expect it.
- Journeys are often fraught with pain.
- Stop imposing other people‘s judgments on your life.

10. Sometimes just being willing to hear and act puts me in a position to experience eternity.
- When I do something for them that they cannot do for themselves, they reciprocate and do something for me that I cannot do for myself. I try to be willing.

I enjoyed the book immensely. Because I knew Dr. Jeff O’Driscoll from our roots in Morgan, Utah I ultimately wanted to support his endeavor of writing a very vulnerable and transparent book. It was an easy read and captured my attention from the start of the book. I very much relate to the shared death experiences as well as the visits from the people in transition.

He obviously gives his life a purpose by helping others. His career choice is an Emergency Room doctor. His description of touching people on the arm or even washing their feet made me respect him so much. Touch heals. Especially hugs.

“What can I do today to serve someone else?” The message will come to you if you are receptive enough to receive. The channel can be a feeling, intuition, vision, voice, dream, or some other communication. You must be open to receive the communication.

I enjoyed his ability recognize what grief, in this case, the loss of his older brother, had done to his ability to attach emotionally. I write a lot about grief and recognizing and overcoming the after effects is a big step in overcoming grief. Another essential concept the author goes over is the difference between religion and spirituality. I liked how he can believe in both. I would recommend this book for those looking to make sense of those unique experiences surrounding people who have transitioned.

A quick easy book. This man is amazing- to be able to be so close to feel the spirits of people who just died. He is lucky to be able to feel and see them. I have longed to see my loved one who died- but I’m not in that realm. It makes me sad that others can experience this, and I can’t. The book is all over the place- jumps from this event to another- hard for me to keep the people straight. But inspiring.
