Erik Ashendale should be he’s in a relationship with a sexy, dangerous witch, business is good, and he’s even gaining ground on the war on monsters. But he hasn’t taken into account Alan CEO, master of the dark arts, and current host of the Sin of Greed.
Now he's got more than he bargained for. There’s a race on to save a tribe of peaceful creatures that Greede intends to use as bioweapons; peace talks between powerful magic nations are turning chaotic; and Erik’s only just discovering that what Greede has in mind doesn’t put just our world at risk.
On top of all that, Abi’s estranged — and fully demonic — mother has returned, and brought with her more than just emotional baggage . . .
The Warlock Legacy series is an action-packed urban fantasy thriller book series, great for fans of Jim Butcher, Sarah J. Maas, Kevin Hearne, Steve McHugh, Michael Anderle, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Shannon Mayer, K.F. Breene, and Shayne Silvers.
This is a fun, snarky slightly spicy urban paranormal fantasy. Book 5 finds Erik battling against yet another Sin. A Virtue has been assigned by Heaven to help Erik. Abi’s mom shows up at an auction and starts an orgy. The Grigori also attend the auction and Erik’s loyalties are put to the test. The Vensir who were able to escape to Earth are being hunted for their bones. Can’t wait to read book 6!
Not crazy about the ending - but then there are supposed to be 13 books in the series so I'll just keep waiting.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review and also to do a bit of proof-reading. With a book with this much action, I have to remember to continue proofing!
Our little Erik is growing up! The book grabs me from page 1 and never lets go. Even Mephistopheles gets into the action. But.... I'm not going to give away any secrets.
The 5th book in the series and still going strong! I can hardly wait for book #6!
As always Ryan Attard has given us a whirl wind of magical fighting, cursing, living and dieing. All of this in the first few chapters.lol We also got all little twist in this book, Erik's girlfriend. Yep, Erik has a full time girlfriend, comes complete with monkey sex and black magic. I'm going to stop with that. To many spoilers takes away all the surprises for the reader. So, sit back relax if you can because once you start reading you won't want to stop.
Erik and his menagerie jump right in to save the world and keep magic and creatures in the dark side of this world. Amaymon is awesome in this one. And Erik starts to work with his sister, and you can see the relationship mend themselves and start to work together.
While many of the open-ended questions from previous books start to be answered. However, there is more than enough explosions and bizarre plots that always seem to come together. Attard does a good job of developing all the characters while moving the bigger story along. However, this book is highly entertaining and I enjoyed it.
Aside from that, well done! You never fail to entertain us, even when we are angry!? For all readers, you have to read all of Ryan's books. But start with series. I don't do spoilers, you'll find out what happens when you read it, but I'll tell you a bit about Ryan. Great, idiotic, smart,an extremely talented writer, who truly caress about his fans, yes, especially the oddest ones. He also has a wicked dry sense of humour. I think you'll always see a bit of Ryan in his characters. YOU HAVE TO READ THIS!!!
Great read. This book has everything! Nonstop action , warlocks, talking cats, magic, sarcasm, humor & and further escalation from the earlier books in the series. I very much enjoyed this book & am ready for more. It was a cannot put down story adding to the storylines from his first books. Thank you Ryan Attard.
I've read all the books in this series and liked them all. But I found the large number of errors in this book to be very distracting and made it hard to read. And I was also disappointed that this book was the first one so far that I wouldn't be comfortable sharing with my kids.
I have been reading about Erik Ashendale , his sister Gil and friends. They have battled two sins and now are dealing with Greede. You will find this book will hold your attention and there are plenty of surprises and twists to the story but you will love it! I would give this book 10 stars and the ending will shock you! Read and enjoy this book!
Whoa! All I can say about that ending......WHOA! The story leading up to it was phenomenal and the usual sarcastic ride we've come to expect, but it's all about the ending. Bring me the next installment already!! 5 very enthusiastic stars....
An absolute thrill ride from start to finish! Every page roars with action, emotion, drama, and suspense! Every single time I thought I knew what was coming, I was thrown for yet another spectacular loop!
I mean it fellow readers. If you're not reading Ryam Attard, you absolutely should be! And I recommend you start with this series. It's an absolute blast!
I can't wait the next book to be released. Each book gets better and better; I was wondering how long it would take Erik to accept his powers and it looks like we're there. Now we gets to see how Erik handles his choice.
not as impressed with this book it. it felt like more of a setup book than the others, lots of info but the action didnt flow as well. there were some good unveils in it though. im looking forward to the next one
Dude!!!!! Why end it like that?? Ahhhhh. Lol. Great book again. Really enjoying Amaymon. For some reason when I read him my mind goes to Leslie Chow from the hangover. Lol. Looking forward to the next one!!!
Erik goes up against his nemesis Greede in a battle of life and death. This really is the best book in the series so far. Fast paced and full of adventure from first page to last. And what an ending. I never saw that coming. Highly recommended.
Where’s the next one?? I need to read more about Eric Ashendale and his journey!! You cant leave me hanging like this!! Nooooo! This series is so good! A must read!
Nemesis is the fifth book in the Legacy series written by Ryan Attard. I feel that overall the series is headed in the right direction. The overall plot is intricate and interesting. With that being said, I think the reader is better of having read all the books in the series and not just one book because this allows to see the overall plot and not just what happens in one book. One of the main issues I still see is that now being in book five I would expect that the editorial errors would have been eliminated but they are still there and still a nuisance. It makes me wish I was a beta reader so I can just help fix it!
The other thing that I wish was maybe a bit tone down is Erik's language. So I am currently reading book seven, so I get why he is who he is, but does he really have to curse so much and at everything? I get being angry but it can get excessive and just too over the top in my eyes where it just looses its effect.
Erik however is growing and it is weird to watch him changing in this book. You can feel how the whole series is changing though and I for one am curious to see where the author is taking this series. Greede sure is a foe that doesn't seem to go away, like EVER !!!!
This book has my favorite line of the entire series, “Please don’t drown my demon. Even if he really deserves it.” Amaymon is so bratty. We also get a new character who I wished had been kept a bit longer. They were so sweet. The big bad is almost a caricature with his smarminess. He totally owns it. Having him randomly appear in the prequel was weird. We get another call-back to that book with a certain druidic wand. Since the prequels are no longer available new readers will not understand the importance. Thankfully it is a throwaway line in the book, so they are just out an Easter egg.
I purchased the book back in 2018. Prior to this reading the last time I opened the book was in 2020. Re-reading it now (in 2025) I found that my edition had been updated to the 2022 release. None of the earlier books did that. It is odd. What I don’t understand is why a glaring error hadn’t been corrected. At one point Erik goes to visit the Visner that he rescued in the third book. He always called one of them “Legolas”. Erik reiterates in this book that Legolas’ actual name is unpronounceable for humans. Later in the book that character is called “Selnar”. WTH? Also the time since the first book changes back and forth between being 4 years earlier (which is correct) and 5 years. One of the reasons behind the updates was to correct editing errors. I didn’t download the updates for the earlier books. For the record I didn’t willingly do this one either. The new covers are nice, but my brain already has the covers I purchased as the “correct” ones. For the earliest books there are even older covers that were replaced long before I discovered the series. The series name being changed to The Warlock Legacy is an odd choice since Erik is emphatic that he is NOT a warlock, his family be damned.
Despite the errors, this is still one of my favorite books of the series. Abi saying, “I’m bathing him” makes me laugh each and every time I picture it.
