Grizzly bear shifter Sunshine Blackthorn arrived in Fate Valley, Missouri, before Christmas to be the maid of honor at the wedding of her good friend from school, Melody Banks. Like Sunshine, Melody is also a shifter, a cougar, and she had discovered her fated mate, a rare shifter-human match, through the matching program, Mate.com. The first order of business is for a memorable bachelorette party, and after a fun night of dancing and not a few drinks, Melody and the other bridesmaids talk Sunshine into signing up on the site to find her own match.
Former Marine, Harrison Cole, came to Fate Valley after his enlistment was complete to work as a firefighter. But after a close call at a fire, he begins to think that maybe there should be more to his life than just service to the community. Also a grizzly bear shifter, he, too, signs up to see if Mate.com can give him a hand in finding his fated mate.
The day of the wedding is gorgeous, but during the ceremony, a fire suspiciously breaks out in the Fate Rock Chapel. Rather than letting it ruin the whole event, though, the wedding is quickly moved to the wine cellar adjacent to the chapel where the reception was to be held. Harrison is one of the responding firefighters, and he and Sunshine are drawn to each other by their grizzly bear instincts over the surrounding chaos. Their realization that they are fated mates in seconded when the Mate.com program matches them up as well. They immediately work to getting to know each other better while they search for the chapel arsonist among the wedding guests, not all of whom are precisely ecstatic about the human groom wedding the shifter bride.Hero Bear has a nice mystery and investigation going on, but the focus of the story is really the romance of the two grizzly shifters getting together. This is apparently a spin-off story from an earlier series, and although it can be read on its own, I have the feeling it would have been more enjoyable if I’d read the previous series beforehand. There were a few references and cameo appearances from characters from these books. Alert: the book does contain explicit sex scenes.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.
In this book we meet Harrison Cole and Sunshine Blackthorn. Sunshine is excited to come back to fate mountain for her best friends wedding. However back on fate mountain doesn't mean she is ready to find her own fated mate. Little did she know one drunk night would be all that it would take to start the ball rolling. Harrison is a firefighter as well as a shifter. When he gets hurt one night while on the job he meets a pretty nurse but knows that it is his fated he is waiting for. What happens then the two shifters find out that their mate is now in town will they do anything to be together or let the walls they have built in their past keep them apart?
This is an amazing story from this author. If you have not read any of the other fate mountain books you should do so immediately. That will not take away from this book but might give you a little reference. It has its ups and downs that I really want to tell you about but don't want to ruin it for any other readers. I will say this book will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Grizzly shifter Sunshine comes to Fate Valley for her friends wedding and while there she signs up for Mate.com shes ready to find her mate .Harrison is a grizzly shifter who makes his living as a firefighter living in Fate Valley .When hes called to the wedding chapel to put out a fire he looks into the eyes of a gorgeous woman and knows hes finally found his mate .These two shifters understand what it means to be fated and they get to know each other as they set out to uncover who the fire starter is .Sunshine is a little worried about leaving her life and parents in Fate Mountain to live in Fate Valley but is sure they can work something out . Harrison and Sunshines story is a sweet one with a hea and I really enjoyed every moment of it .The characters and world that this author has created are wonderful and they become a part of you .I was given an arc of this book in exchange for my honest opinions ..I will definitely recommend this book to all my paranormal reading friends out there looking for a good book to cuddle up with .Two thumbs way up.

I have read several books by this author and have enjoyed each and every one. I thought Fate Mountain was the place I wanted to be, but Fate Valley is looking pretty dang good. How fitting that the first book in this series is the marriage of Rescue Bear's own Chief Bear, Levi, and his mate, Juliet. Sunshine Blackthorn is the best friend of the bride, Melody, and her maid of honor. She is wheedled into signing up on Mate.com by the bridal party after a few drinks. Harrison Cole is a firefighter in Fate Valley and Sunshine's 100% mate match. I liked that even after the fire, with all the smoke, Harrison still caught her scent and had to speak. It was so cool that both being bears, knew from the beginning they were mates and worked together to solve the arson investigation from the wedding. I loved how he listened to everything she had to say, what she learned and they investigated together. I loved this new book and look forward to a lot more mysteries from Fate Valley. I have read several books by Scarlett and I always like them. Sunshine Blackthorn has come to Fate Valley for her friend’s wedding. They convince her at the bachelorette party to sign up a shifter dating site called mate.com. She does. Harrison is former military and his current job is firefighting. An accident during a fire make him realize that he wants to try and find his mate. So, he too makes a profile on Mate.com. Sunshine and Harrison meet at her friend’s wedding. In the middle of the ceremony someone starts the chapel on fire. Harrison is one of the firemen who comes to the rescue. They are immediately drawn together and as it turns out are a 100% match on Mate.com. They are fated mates. Things happen quickly for them in the romance and attraction department. They both want to get to the bottom of who started the fire and why. I really enjoyed this story and I liked the mystery aspect of it. I look forward to reading about some of the other bachelor bears in the Fate Valley.

Sunshine is the daughter of Levi and Juliet, the very first couple written about it Fate Mountain Rescue Bears. She flew across the country to attend her best friend's wedding. During the bachelorette party she signed up for mate.com.
Meanwhile, Harrison a firefighter has a close call during a fire and realizes that like is short and signs up for mate.com also.
There is a fire that was intentionally set during her friends wedding. So the two meet after the fire was extinguished.
Of course they move fast in the love department because they are both shifters do there is no fighting it.
There is a mystery to solve in this book along with the mating. We are also introduced to a few single shifters who may or may not be looking for mates. Looks like we will be getting a few more stories in Fate Valley. This is the starting of a new series in a new place, but if you enjoyed it, I recommend going back and reading from the beginning. 3.5 Stars - Harrison and Sunshine's was too smooth for my liking. It was great that they were faded me but there was no real development in the relationship. Some of the hotter scenes were great so that kept it moving for me. But there were also some grammatical errors that were distracting and also a couple of names were referred to incorrectly. Harrison and sunshine are both grizzly bear shifters. He is a firefighter and she is a web designer who happens to be the maid of honor at her Best Friend's Wedding. What was delightful for me, was to discover towards the end of the book that she is the daughter of Levi and Juliet from the original series of Fate Mountain. It appears as though this author is going to continue with this series and I just hope it gets better and better

Again, the author crafted a very well written story about the dedicated members of the shifter world. Filled with love, bigotry, investigation, and heroic actions on the part of certain characters, this book is a page turner deserving the maximum 5 Stars rating. I recommend this book.

First book in a new romantic shifter series. Shifters know their soulmate and so as they meet. But meeting isn’t always possible. Thankfully mate.com is there to connect them. Once they find that mate that is 100% meant for you, you can just start planning the wedding because they are never wrong.
The story is very sweet and romantic. Yes it is love at first sight with this story. When a web designer shifter meets her firefighter shifter mate, things heat up instantly. You have to love the devotion and love they feel.

Cute follow-up to Fate Mountain series!
I think that I will enjoy these mysteries as much as I did the Fate Mountain series which came first. This story is a cute, fast read with a definite mystery and too many suspects!
The story has a quick pace, a positive tone, a character oriented storyline with some action, steamy scenes and vivid characters. I can't wait to see what happens next! If this sounds like a shifter romance for you try it and see. You may want to read the Fate Mountain series first, but you don't have to.

New to me author suggested by KindleUnlimited. I love the premise of the “Who done it?” with the paranormal twist.
This first book has Sunshine attending her BFF wedding and there she meets Harrison when someone attempts to burn up the chapel. Harrison and Sunshine them try to sleuth their way into finding the culprit.
Is a quickly read story, and as with fated mates is pretty insta-love, the characters for future books are introduced as you go, but do not take over the story. Great work. Off to read book two.

A great start to new shifter series, this busy little book is jam packed with action, drama and suspense. Don't worry there's plenty of steamy Shifter Romance woven into the story too ;)

Disappointing
I was disappointed in this book. I have read all the other series of books by Scarlett and loved them, especially the Fate Mountain Bears, but this book was not the same quality. It's like it was written quickly, just like it was an outline of the story and not many details. It jumped from one scene to the other and it had no suspense like the other books. It was very predictable, you knew who was guilty at the beginning.

This book is a must read!
I am a huge Scarlett Grove fan! Normally I don't review books, but this one touched my heart. My whole life, I have been surrounded by the military and all of its customs and traditions. The way Scarlett approached the subject of the hero being a Medal of Honor winner was spot on. True winners never talk about their awards and are the most humble and brave people ever! Thank you so much!

What a great start for a new series. Found this to be a really cute enjoyable and entertaining read. With just enough intrigue and suspense to whole your attention from beginning to end. Overall a entertaining read looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series. Sexy Shifters, romance, and danger. Everything you want in a quick read. Shifter town that accepts everyone and friends that treat each other as family. Throw in danger and mystery and love. No cliffhanger and hea. Also check out Fate Mountain: Complete Series (Small Town Bear Shifter Romance) by Scarlett Grove. It's very good.

Not my cup of tea
I did read the whole book although I wanted to quit more than a few times. Why on earth a firefighter and a tourist would be investigating a crime just made no sense to me I couldn't get into it just kept thinking... "They should really let the police handle that!" I would give the author another chance just didn't care for this one .
