A life of wholeness and purpose are well within our reach--The Art of Abundance outlines ten rules, or practices, that lay the foundation for a life worth living.
Whether we're striving for a new job, a higher salary, or a better relationship, Dennis Merritt Jones explains in The Art of Abundance that we all essentially want the same thing: freedom, inner peace, and a life filled with purpose and meaning. He argues that a life of wholeness and peaceful satisfaction is readily available to us--we just need the eyes to see it and the faith to claim it. The problem is that most people don't know where to look for such a life. This book will help readers open their eyes to the limitless abundance that lies waiting just beyond their current belief system. In The Art of Abundance, Jones identifies ten rules, or practices that, when followed faithfully, lay the foundation for a life worth living. In order to make each rule as easy to apply as possible, Jones lays out the premise, the problem, the principle, the practice, and the payoff of each. The "Abundance Rules" assist readers in creating a greater flow of goodness into their lives--in ways they may have never considered.
The Art of Abundance: Ten Rules for a Prosperous Life is a book that ought to be read by all. It contains essential wisdom regarding clarifying the difference between abundance and prosperity that many will embrace. Interspersed throughout each chapter are handpicked quotes that remind me of the cherries of the front cover, inferring they have been delicately chosen to compliment the book.
The Art of Abundance invites the reader to reconnect with the oneness with life. The ten rules are centred on raising one’s consciousness to live with an awareness that abundance is the gift already given. Dennis Merritt Jones has done a wonderful job distilling the essence of abundance into this gem of a book. He affirms that a life replete with wholeness and fulfilment is possible to all. One must see it first and develop the faith to receive it. By venturing outside our comfort zone and drawing on the 10 rules of abundance, we will come to realise a new perspective of life seen through the eyes of a greater intelligence.
Having read many of the old classics on prosperity and abundance including: Napoleon Hill, James Allen, Charles Fillmore, Catherine Ponder and Wallace Wattles, I find Dennis’ book a refreshing read. It offers a renewed perspective on how to live a life of abundance applicable to modern times. The author states how the rules throughout the book are not breaking news; the principles and laws are as ancient as the universe itself. Yet, it is how he brings them together that captures the reader’s attention. I’m drawn to the subheadings within each chapter labelled: The Premise, The Problem, The Principle, The Practice and The Payoff. Dennis identifies the problem faced by many and outlines the principles of abundance. The practice is the reader’s invitation to apply the principle of abundance, while the payoff summaries how it serves the reader. Overall, this is a delightful book that is thoughtfully laid out and promises to impart wonderful pearls of wisdom.
An interesting read of different scenarios and perspectives. I enjoy books like this that make me look at things from different angles.
“Create a life of purpose and meaning—a life truly worth living”
“Fear tends to do that; it drives an invisible wedge between us and our true source of abundance—and all the possibilities it offers—and thus between us and freedom.”
“It’s ironic that the term consciousness is still widely used in the spirituality and self-help movement, and yet few of us ever take time on a regular basis to truly explore the depths of our consciousness and examine what lies therein, let alone consider how it got there. Why? Because we are often too busy, as Maxwell Maltz implies, obsessing over what we don’t have, or trying to fix, heal, change, control, or manipulate the conditions (effects) of the circumference of our life rather than dealing with the cause that lies at the center: our consciousness.”
“It took however many years you’ve lived to build your current consciousness, so don’t expect to reshape it in a matter of days, weeks, or even months. Building and maintaining an abundance consciousness is a lifetime practice, so take your time and stay with it.”
“As a universal principle, the law of circulation does not know or care about the difference between a smile and a hundred-dollar bill; it knows only that energy in every form must flow out as well as in.”
“Obviously, when you love what you do, the thing you do loves you back.”
“Doing what you love is freedom. Loving what you do is happiness. —Lana Del Rey”
“Because we see things so often, we see them less and less.”
“Realization without application is hallucination.” Unless we take what we have learned and put it to work in our lives, it is all for naught and we stay stuck in a fantasy world, wishing from a distance that things in our lives and on the planet would change for the better. The reality is that change begins with you.”
This is not a "prosperity book" about how to get more "stuff." The Art of Abundance is about learning how to actualize a universal principle which encompasses far more than the amount of money in your wallet, or the size of your home, or the kind of car you drive. All of these things are wonderful and can certainly add value to our lives, but not always meaning.
Manifesting a prosperous life isn't just about increasing our net worth; it's about increasing our self-worth. It's about making it possible to have an abundance of whatever shapes a life worth living, including the more intangible things such as an abundance of love, relationships, vibrant health, and the time to enjoy them all.
The question is, what does "more than enough" look like to you? That answer can be different for each one of us, but the principle that transforms essence (energy) into experience (form) remains the same. Only those who have the consciousness, courage, and faith to scale the invisible walls of the collective belief in "not enough" will know true abundance.

This book rivals some of the greats of thought movement. Every bit as good as, if not better than, Dyer's "Power of Intention" or Zukav's "Seat of the Soul." The mental shift he outlines required for an abundant life go beyond the simpler stated instructions of Don Miguel Ruiz's "The Four Agreements." An understanding of spiritual mind treatment is probably helpful.
Shift happens, as they say, and this book will guide you through to a better outlook and a better attitude. I think a companion book/workbook would have been helpful. This material has great potential to be used as the centerpiece of a retreat or weekend workshop. Well done, Mr. Jones!
This book captures in detail strategies to cultivate abundance in life. These rules are ways to practice building a mindset and daily activities that will empower one to manage perspective in ways that serve you and everyone you come in contact with during the day. Understanding how one gets in their own way builds an awareness that gives clues to which strategy to employ to break the cycle of reactivity that colors perspective for worse. We’re all at choice how we approach life. It takes effort and persistence to create a life worth living.
Very inspirational book! I’m glad that I read it. I bought it for a book group and it has sparked lot of interesting conversations. I do wish that the author included more quotes by women and more concrete exercises on the topic of abundance. Overall the book and the conversations have helped me feel happier and encouraged me to live a little bolder knowing that there is more abundance in my life than I previously thought.
I like that the 10 rules are explaining the same “thing” thru different perspectives. It’s about abundance, consciousness, love, passion, courage, strength, peace etc. All of these, are in the same one source, one place, and it is available to us, 24/7, whenever we are in consciousness.
Particularly like the rules on be courageous, be of service, and be blessed.
The thing that will stay with me from this book is: being a butterfly is possible once you want to fly more than you want to be a caterpillar. I think that's a strange thing to get from a book, but there you are.
a book abundantly full of great rules to live a life of abundance. makes me think of the many times i act out of fear that i might miss the opportunity of something. recommended reading.
One of those books that circles around all the things I’ve read my whole life. This captures great insights around how to live a life and how to live with freedom, all with brevity, focus, and application.
