About the author

Harriet Muncaster studied illustration at Norwich University College of the Arts before going on to get an MA in children’s book illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. In creating the art for her first book for children, she was thrilled to have found a good outlet for her lifelong fascination with miniatures. She lives in Hertfordshire, England.

Draguta povestea, am citit-o copiilor mei si ne-am amuzat mai mult de parintii stangaci in organizarea unei petreceri "omenesti". Ilustratiile sunt de ajutor.
Se aseamana cu Amelia von Vamp care este un personaj mai simpatic.

Me lo he leído por trabajo y me ha entretenido bastante. Si tenéis peques de 6/7 años probablemente ya conozcáis esta saga, porque lo está petando bastante. Si no la conocéis, dadle una oportunidad y compradselo a vuestros hijos, sobrinos, etc (o incluso para vosotros mismos, son lecturas cortas y pueden sacarle a uno de un parón lector).

Happy Birthday to Isadora Moon!

I read the previous 2 books in Dutch as I couldn’t find these in English, but thankfully it seems my libraries are now also adding Isadora Moon’s books in English! I have to say I much prefer her name in English. Isadora sounds just more vampaerie than Isabella.

In this one Isadora celebrates her birthday. Of course her parents have an idea what they want, either a vampire or a faerie birthday, but oh no. Isadora wants a human party. She wants the things her best friends also have done. From bouncy castles to fake magicians. As you can imagine her parents are wary at first, but then totally go for it. I had a laugh that they really went for it and wrote down everything that Isadora told them. :P

But as you can also imagine what do you get when you ask a vampire and a faerie for a normal birthday? Indeed, they do their best.. but well, they just have a different idea of what is normal for humans. So the magician is real (or well, a trainee rather), the bouncy castle is a cloud (yes, and I loved it. A cloud is much, much better than a bouncy castle), and I could go on, if you want to know what happens at Isadora’s party you should read the book, I am not going to tell you everything. I can only tell you that I wish I was at that party. Dressed up in some cool costume and having the time of my life.

I have to say that I absolutely disliked Wilbur. My lord, what an ego that kid has. Thinks he can do everything, doesn’t listen, and does the most stupid things ever. I much preferred him leaving the party. Thankfully, the parents are also not entirely happy with what Wilbur does at the party. Which is a nice change from so many other books.

I giggled when the parents didn’t get the concept of fancy dress/costumes and what that means.

I could totally understand Isadora, on the one hand she was elated that her parents allowed a human party and that they did so much effort, but on the other hand she was so embarrassed as her parents act pretty weird and have no concept of what a human party really means. Plus I can imagine having your mum sing a song as music… is a bit embarrassing.

The book is also full with pink/black illustrations. They really brighten the book, plus now can really see the party unfold.

All in all, I hope that one of my libraries will soon have the Ballet book, either Dutch or English.

And of course I would recommend this book. Let’s party!

This was a fun book about Isadora's birthday party. As always, she can choose to have a vampire, fairy or human based party. She wants a human one with magicians, bounce house, costume, cake, etc. and her parents do it but with their own twist. Hijinks ensue and its really cute and fun. Highly recommend!

Za klinku od 6 godina, savršeno. Malo smo prerasli slikovnice, za duže stvari još nemamo strpljenja. A Izadora ima kratka poglavlja, i zanimljive zgode s kojima se svaka djevojčica od 5-9 godina može poistovjetiti
A o ilustracijama ne moram duljiti... Ova pink crna kombinacija je odlična!
Na kraju svakog nastavka su neke aktivnosti, poput recepata za keksiće, ili kratkog testa osobnosti.
Do sada smo pročitali tri nastavka iz serijala, vjerujem da ćemo ih pročitati sve jer malena ne gubi interes, i u knjižnici prvo leti prema polici na kojoj je Izadora

Me gustó más de lo que pensaba!!
porque tenía prevención de que una familia tan rara fuera a traer algo bueno.
Sin embargo el relato ha sido muy bonito.
Se transmite el sentido de la amistad y la tolerancia con que todos somos diferentes.
Muy bonitas las ilustraciones y los personajes son dulces y simpáticos.

Been reading this with my seven year old. It’s ... kinda bonkers. The offspring of a fairy and a vampire decides to have a human birthday party. You can tell it’s a book for lower ks2 kids as the vampires drink tomato juice instead of blood.

Soy fan de las ilustraciones y me gustó mucho la historia, aunque este libro a comparación de los otros siento que no tiene una enseñanza marcada, es netamente para entretenernos con Isadora.
Aún así, es bonito, amé la familia de Isadora y a sus diferentes amigos.

Isadora on puoliksi keiju äidin puolelta ja puoliksi vampyyri isän puolelta. Hän käy ihmisten koulua, koska ei kokee sopivansa sinne paremmin kuin vanhempiensa käymiin kouluihin. Ihmiskoulussa jokainen on omalla tavallaan erilainen. Isadora haluaa viettää syntymäpäivänsäkin ihmisten tapaan, mutta siitäkös melkoinen soppa syntyy, kun vanhemmat päättävät järjestää Isadoran juhlat.

So charming and filled with birthday fun! The illustrations are cute, and I loved meeting Isadora and her family. It was so much fun reading about the way the party was planned and carried out. I think I would have loved this as a little kid, and I love it now :-)

Lo leí para mí hija, pero he de admitir que a mí también me gusta mucho. Isadora Moon me parece increíble, es una pequeña Hada Vampiro, la cual convive con humanos; en está ocasión ella sólo desea una fiesta de cumpleaños como cualquier niño humano podría desear, no de vampiros ni de hadas, pero es hermosa la manera en que Muncaster lo desarrolla. Y al final de cuentas ¿Qué realmente importa? ¿Ser aceptado o ser nosotros mismos?

Isadora Moon might be the daughter of a vampire father and a fairy mother, but her experiences are very human. After all, she just wants to fit in with her classmates and be considered normal and be accepted by them. When her parents agree to host a birthday party for their offspring, Isadora stresses that it needs to follow the human recipe for parties. Try as they might, though, her well-meaning parents just can't get it right, though, even sending out party invitations through bats and interrupting her lessons. Nevertheless, the party is a big hit even though there is a real cloud rather than a bouncing castle. But her cousin Wilbur is enlisted as the magician, and his magic goes a bit too far, leaving Isadora to figure a way to save the day. The book's message of acceptance and being true to oneself is quite clear, making this, the fourth title in this unusual series, a good choice for caregivers and teachers who want their children to embrace the things that make them unique. I continue to find the illustrations, which rely appropriately on plentiful blacks and pinks, to complement the story well.

Her mom is a fairy, and her dad is a vampire, and they are both sure that either a fairy party or a vampire party would be a much better idea. After some convincing by Isadora, Isadora's parents agree to host a human party, but will they be able to pull off a non-magical event?

Another great addition to the sweet Isadora Moon series. I enjoy the twist on the traditional realistic fiction first chapter book. The only difference between these titles and other everyday school adventures is that Isadora's mom is a fairy and her dad is a vampire-but those changes are enough to make this series hold its own.

Beautiful story about a little girl called Isadora who is the child of a fairy and a vampire. Its her birthday and she wants a normal human type of birthday. Her mom being a fairy thinks all things magical and wants to plan accordingly - in a forest, with fairy cakes, with splashing about in the river. Her dad wants it to celebrate it the traditional vampire way with red juice, red food etc. Isadora is worried that her friends will find out about her family and her parents want to give her the best day of her life and what ensues is the beautiful story.

Listened to the audiobook with my daughter and loved every minute of it. Cant wait to listen more about Isadora.

I read this book aloud to my 5 year old daughter in the hope that the pink and the fairies would make the black and the vampires appeal to her.

Unfortunately none of my boys has taken a liking to fantasy or science fiction yet and my girl is all about princesses but a fairy-vampire could be the perfect compromise...

And it was. The both of us adored Isadora and her birthday party adventures. The story is in my opinion a very original spin on the traditional little girl protagonist story.

Yo quiero un cumpleaños así!!
El libro es cortito, pero dice mucho, y expresa lo que todo niño y niña desea cuando es pequeño. Diversión, risas y buenas intenciones se plasman en este libro. Isadora quiere una buena fiesta y no solo por ella, sino también para sus amigos.
Los padres de Isadora son muy entretenidos y en serio quiero que me organicen mi próximo cumpleaños.
El libro se lee muy fácil, es rápido y entretenido. Si quieren algo tierno e infantil, vayan por este libro!!

Un libro molto carino, disegni ben fatti e creativi, la storia è curiosa, tanti scene di suspence e finale gradito. Ogni capitolo mi faceva venir voglia di leggerne un altro, mi è stato regalato per il compleanno e mi è piaciuto molto come regalo. Il contenuto è molto interessante e le due cose più belle sono: all'inizio c'è un albero genealogico della famiglia di Isadora e alla fine c'è un mini quiz su fate e vampiri. Io consiglio a tutti di leggerlo, grazie!
