A young noblewoman is caught in between warring factions in dying King Uther's realm.
Wife of Lot, who is leading a rebellion against Camelot, Morgawse is sent to spy on the young King Arthur at court. Inadvertently seduced by him, Morgawse learns she will bear his child. As war rages, she keeps his true paternity a secret, and raises their lovechild as her husband's own.
Can Morgawse protect her youngest son? Who will Mordred become?
Lot is ultimately killed in battle, and Morgawse must raise her son alone and protect him from the feuding knights. She must become a ruthless and skilful operator as strong men bid for power around her. But a terrible fate awaits her - a hidden danger that comes from within.
The life of the Queen of Lothian explored for the first time in fiction in depth since Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur.
MORGAWSE features all three books in the trilogy, previously published in single volumes on Kindle, as part of Lavinia Collins' fantasy chronicles exploring the lives of Arthurian women. Look out for GUINEVERE and MORGAN.
The three books collated here have been described as "stunning", "gripping", "simply beautiful" and "enthralling". Try this volume today and see what all the fuss is about!
Author, feminist, fantasist and chronic daydreamer Lavinia Collins grew up in the rural Westcountry, where there was nothing to do but get lost in her own imagination. She began her love affair with all things medieval when she visited Tintagel castle as a little child. She went on to study medieval literature at University, where she indulged her habit of getting lost in an imaginary past by studying medieval Literature. While there she learned everything about chivalry in theory, and almost nothing in practice. She wanted to share just a little bit of the powerful magic of medieval literature and legend with the wider world, and bring these half-lost stories to a modern audience, to recover the most of all the stories of the women of these legends, who often get lost among all of the tales of heroes and battles. She hopes that you find reading her books as much of a romantic, immersive escape from the “real world” as she did writing them. Now she splits her time between her main passion, writing, and a bit of teaching and a lot of fussing the cat and daydreaming. She loves eating (mainly chocolate), drinking (mainly wine) and being merry (combination of the previous two and good friends).
Morgawse, a woman who used sex and her beauty to gain power in the world which was totally dominated by men, however men abused of her beauty and she became a pawn on the political chess board, hurt and abused by the many who used her! Lot her aged husband, uncouth and barbaric kept impregnating her so she gave him four sons but she seemed to never gain his respect, maybe cause all she had was her beauty!! Then she fell in love with Arthur and had yet another son, Mordred, however Arthur turned out to be her brother through Igraine their common mother and he would have nothing more to do with her or to ever recognise his son to Mordred's chagrin!! A disappointing tale in that I had imagined Morgawse to be a strong woman not one who just jumped from one bed to another always seeking love and after Arthur never finding it anywhwer! Even her sister Morgan was not the powerful witch I had read about in other Arthurian tales and Merlin was portrayed as evil and ugly in this book and this was the biggest disappointment!!
I have long been a fan of Lavinia Collins' novels, so was delighted when this latest one came out. The other members of my book club and I have been reading it this past fortnight and we all agree how refreshing it is to see the women of Arthurian legend being given a voice. Thank you Lavinia! Plus, of course, the steamy romance is all good fun - definitely recommended for these dark autumn nights
